One word... Disappointing. I loved the first two Alien movies but this one really didn't sort anything out for me. I didn't expect the Alien to appear in the movie but this one was a little confusing for me. Hopefully the sequel will be better but for me this one disappointed.
Cons slow, story was confusing
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I found this movie entertaining, but I wish they had explained more. They made intriguing statements, but then provided no follow-up or explanation. I wanted more. It was left open for a sequel, and if they one I hope they provide more answers and explanation. The special effects were great, and the story was interesting.
Pros well paced, great story, cool effects
Cons confusing

The movie had no meaningful character development and as such the deaths were completely unmoving. The concept was cool but the story needed more fleshing out. I wish I could get my money back

Prometheus was a disappointment.
Full of sweeping panoramas and long camera shots, the cinematography was beautiful, but the film ended with that. With a small cast, there was plenty of time to develop characters and relationships, to draw the audience into the experience, but the film makers seemed to want to keep us at a distance, keep us just watching, never engaging.
None of the characters grew or changed from our initial impressions of them. None of the relationships were compelling. The script was also oddly flawed. For example, as not to give away too much, the characters came out of stasis having just made a two year flight together, but when they woke up, they seemed to be meeting for the first time. No explanation was offered for how they all wound up where they were, what their individual motivations were, what goals they had. The characters were presented as nothing more than empty caricatures, and were never developed beyond that. The relationships existed because we were told, explicitly, that they were there.
There is no hint here of the personal investment each character in the original Alien films had, no sense of dread from the creature in the darkness, no urgency, no fear.
No anything. Just pretty pictures.
Pros pretty
Cons slow, undeveloped, unemotional
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Something that I loved about the original Alien film was witnessing this fragment of an obviously larger story. I love that after all of the terrible additions and derailments of the Alien Franchise, returning to that simple concept - give the audience another fragment to this larger whole, pose more questions than are answered - Scott, Spaihts and Lindelof were able to set this franchise back in motion. I give the film an Overall Rating of Excellent, because I think it is an excellent film. Is it perfect? No. Is it an example of seriously great film-making? Yes. Wonderful visuals. Amazing actor performances. Great storytelling. And, great direction. I left the theater with that same feeling that I had after seeing Alien - I was exhausted by the unimaginable horror, awestruck by the curiosities, inspired by the tenacity of the characters and itching to see the next fragment.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I enjoyed Prometheus and tried to watch it as a stand alone film. It was not always possible to do so. Being an Alien fan, I found a bit of Prometheus to contain "been there, done that" scenes that I found annoying. However, I came to believe that Prometheus was not only done to answer questions long-time Alien fans had about where things started but also to appeal to those younger folks who might not have seen the original movies. From that standpoint, Prometheus fulfills that goal. It is a stand alone film with a good story line. The special effects were great and not over the top at all. I really hate films that have so many special effects that the story gets lost (think "2012"). The casting was good and acting fairly decent. Over all, definitely worth seeing.
Pros well paced, good prequel

I have been telling people the same thing this movie is telling, that we are a created race of beings...created by another race of advanced humanoids. The story doesn't have the real truth about who we are but it is still a good movie.
The movie still brings religious faith into the picture which is typical of those who still don't understand who created us and the REAL history of us humans!
I loved Prometheus and I have watched it 2 times in less than a week. I will be buying the DVD when it comes out...it's that good.
I highly recommend this one!

Perhaps the Alien idea isn't as thrilling or scary anymore. This movie had great previews, but the actual movie gave very little excitement. There was very little reason to care if anyone died. I think the only character that had my sympathy was the captain of the ship. And, give me a break, the main character had a c-section then walked and ran the rest of the movie? Please. Also, are we to assume there are more steps to making an Alien baby now? Confusing. Overall I wouldn't even bother to see this one ever again.

This prequel (or not a prequel) to the Alien trilogy presents little new material other than the premise that human life on earth was not the result of evolution but rather was seeded by an alien civilization. Of course the usual cast of characters are present - the smart scientist in the style of Ripley, the not so smart scientists, the heroic captain, the bone-headed crew, the aged billionaire seeking eternal life and his daughter seeking control of his money. The film even lacks any really good creature scares with the appearance of the Giger-style creature saved for the very end. There are many technical errors of which the cited carbon dioxide levels are the most blatant. My suggestion is to skip this film and rent the original or better yet one of two truly scary films - The Exorcist or Jaws.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

A very strange movie, but very cool with the special effects and with different solar systems and everything-it is based in 2093 for most of the movie. I thought the actors were spectacular. I thought it was suspenseful, well-paced, for the most part(the beginning was a little slow), and also very well done. But I really didn't know what to think about it in general, and it was a little bit confusing. The perspective this movie puts you in is very peculiar, and the ending is supporting a sequel and was also a bit depressing as well. A good movie for the most part.

It is not really an Alien prequel, which is good and bad. I am glad to know more about the space jockey, but I was left with more questions about the Alien franchise. It is an interesting story, so I would recommend it, but try not to go in assuming it has anything to do with Aliens. It is an interesting theory about the origins of humans on Earth, and I would love to see a sequel that answers some of the questions about the Engineers and Aliens.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I am a sci-fi movie buff as well as a huge fan of Ridley Scott films. Nobody does space movies better. Read it and weep George Lucas. When I saw the trailer for this movie months before its release I was very excited about it and could not wait to see it. I have not been so excited about any particular movie in years. The trailer revealed just enough to suggest a connection to the original Alien movie; which is still a great movie. The crashed alien ship, the pods, and the attachment creature were all there to stir up a lot of interests in this movie. I saw this film on opening night and could not wait to get through the coming attractions and get on with the film. The movie opens with some great scenic shots and then pans to human like alien standing on the edge of a raging river and waterfall. The alien is very much a CGI looking figure and at first I thought that I was watching a trailer for some new video game. That is where I started to worry about this movie. If you are a fan of the original Alien movie you’re going to be let down. This movie was a huge disappointment for me. The plot is difficult to understand leaving many questions as to why and how. The set and costumes are very cheesy. I felt like I was watching a 1950’s sci-fi movie where everybody wears jump suits and plastic helmets. The vehicles, weapons, and machinery are all plastic looking. The plastic helmets and the plastic hubcaps on the passenger vehicle are just silly. I half expected the space suits to come with a red superman cape. If this movie is a prequel to Alien, and it appears that it is, then why does the technology appear to be more advanced than that of what is seen in the original Alien movie? Ridley Scott did you not learn anything from George Lucas’s mistakes? Just because you can do amazing things with special effects these days does not mean that you should. I feel like a lot of movies today are nothing more than a bunch of special effects artist competing with one other through film. Everything else is forgotten. There are so many unbelievable and unrealistic scenes that after a while you begin to feel insulted by the stupidity of this movie. I found myself laughing at scenes that were supposed to be scary and suspenseful. I found myself asking so many questions that I could no longer engage myself with this movie. Why didn’t the abrasiveness of a 200 mile per hour sandstorm damage the space suits? Like a pair of glasses on sandpaper the clarity of the helmets should have been scratched and scoured and the suits shredded. Nope, they look just fine when they make it back to the ship. How did the two highly educated scientists get themselves lost inside the caves especially when they have the coordinates right there on their wrists…and they were the mapping specialist too! Everyone else seemed to get out just fine. Again, why did two highly educated scientists choose to engage an alien creature without any caution as if it were a cute cuddly baby? Please! How was it possible for a woman to run, jump, and fight like an Olympian athlete minutes after having a c-section abortion? Really? How stupid do you think we are? The alien creatures look so similar to the main zombie in the movie, I am Legend that at time I was not sure which movie I was watching. How was it possible for the android (David) to communicate with the Aliens, simply by studying various languages here on earth? The language they spoke was nothing like the languages here on Earth. Very convenient for this movie that the android could communicate with the aliens and operate their equipment too. Also convenient was the hologram video that kept popping up only for that sake of helping the audience through this cumbersome plot. The elderly financier of this mission was completely unnecessary and only served to detract from this movie. He looked like a young man made to look old with latex. The sex arrangement between the ship captain and the female executive (Charlize Theron) was also completely unnecessary. It was contrary to her role as a tough, independent and disciplined professional. These types of scenes are put into movies only to influence young women into acting this way. The fight scene between the two different aliens is very reminiscence of the fight scenes between Jack Sparrow and the Kraken in Pirates of the Caribbean II. Not only does the menacing creature look the same as the Kraken but the fight scene pretty much ends the same way. How do you defeat a huge giant octopus? Couldn’t they have come up with something other than an octopus creature that we have seen a hundred times in other movies? Near the end of the movie, two remaining women are running from a ship that is falling from the sky. Fortunately the ship is crashing in slow motion while they are able to run at full speed making for a very suspenseful escape attempt. The reality is that this crash would have occurred in the blink of an eye; leaving them no time to run anywhere. Fortunately and rather conveniently, the main star is saved by a small boulder that is strong enough to resist the impact of a huge ship while also supporting its resting weight. Whew, good thing that boulder was there! What is that boulder made of anyway…solid Tungsten? The star spends the last half of the film running from a ferocious alien and when she survives and acquires his ship all she wants to do is travel to his home planet so she can talk to the others over a nice cup of Starbucks coffee. Doesn’t she have any concern over the possibility that the others will respond to her in the same manner. She barely survived one. I cannot imagine a whole planet attacking her. Good luck with that. I can go on and on over the ridiculousness of this movie, but I think you get the point. Overall this movie is worthy of rental only. Do not pay theatre prices for this movie. There are some good special effects here, but not enough to save this movie. BIG DISSAPOINTMENT!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Anyone who goes in thinking this is anything close to an "ALIEN" Prequel will be thoroughly disappointed. While some elements are there: The Weyland Corporation from the Alien Series is present, albeit minus the Yutani part...( think Exxon without the Mobil) While saying anymore would spoil the fun...one will have to see it for themselves.
The visuals are quite stunning. While Dark, and sometimes shadowy scenes lit by flash light,
Scott likes to reveal without revealing. you'll see only part of the bigger picture without any more explanation than what you just saw or might have missed.
This is really a Origin of life story. The two main characters, have found cave paintings from different areas of the world but centuries apart..nothing else connects them except the same depictions.
Pay close attention to DAVID the resident Android ( this is not a secret, as it is revealed early unlike in ALIEN) His actions are a clue.
to give more away and to try to explain the rest of the story would just confuse. If you have seen ALIEN, forget that movie. This film only snippets of comparisons. This is overall an excellent movie, although it will leave unanswered questions. It would be a mistake for a sequel not to be expected. See it, decide for yourself, that's the easiest thing you can do.
Pros great story
Cons bad acting
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Having to live up to the expectations of a science fiction academy award winning classic film, Alien, Prometheus fell short. The production design is incredible but that is due to HR Giger's work that looks as fresh today as it did in 1979.

It was not a very fluid plot line. It creates a bunch of questions, and does not answer very many of them. It was fun, thrilling, and had some cool effects, but the overall movie was not very good. The ending was good, the shock value was good, but... Watch it at home, it is not worth the theater prices

I was so amped to see this film. However I am glad I opted to only see the 2D version and not the 3D. Much respect to Ridley Scott for securing the brand but watching the trailer has all the excitement of the movie. Sometimes movies need a little more explanation and a little less special effects.

Horrible ending, says nothing good about our humanity. BIG WASTE of an evening. We did not understand why the writers would not have written something good about our origin. It had such potential to make a positive message about life, etc. but was nothing but evil. After the movie, we did not hear one good comment as everyone was leaving, they were either confused or just hated it as we did. Save your money and evening and do not fill your brains with this terrible flick.
Cons horrible story, very bad ending

I really loved the special effects, lighting, scenery, etc.
The story line, on the other hand, was...I don't know. I was slightly confused at times which really makes me angry.
Half the time I was trying to figure out WTH was going on!
I would, however, recommend this movie, if only for what you see.

Prometheus was unexpectedly fresh considering it is a prequel to the Alien franchise. This seems to be the beginning to an entirely new series of movies based in that universe. Overall the movie looks fantastic, the 3D was implemented well, the action was awesome, and the acting was believable and more importantly moving.
Some movie critics have complained that this movie does not properly answer the deep philosophical questions which are raised throughout it, and that it is too blunt in asking those questions. I think that by asking their questions very directly, they made deep philosophical discussion after the movie available even to those who saw it as a summer blockbuster. Even if you just went there for the special effects and the action, you were forced to look at the deeper aspects of the story.
There was also concern that the movie raised many questions, but answered few. That's kind of the point. They did actually give many points of view and potential answers for the questions raised, however those answers were weighed equally and the decision as to what is correct is eventually left to the viewer.
Please ignore the Alien Vs. Predator movies. Those movies and those events never occurred in the Alien universe.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, michael fassbender does an amazing job

You wanna discover where mankind came from? Well, Ridley Scott and friends have the answer for you! No. Seriously!
Prepare to be mesmerized by this creative and cunning flic. And guess who's jumped over to this film from "Snow White & the Huntsman"? No. Not the Twilight mamacita. I'm talkin' about Charlize Theron! So you know beauty graces the screen in this one!
The entire cast is stellar. And the visual effects and cinematography are amazing!
If you are ready to wake up the mind and have some fun, this one is the movie to see!

I just saw Prometheus. I've waited with great expectations since last year to see this film, and well now, all I can say is I feel really empty, unfulfilled, sad, disillusioned and unbelievably frustrated! It was like watching gay porn while eating plain rice cakes sprinkled with sugar free sugar (which I seldom ever do) leaving a stale, vacuous taste in my mouth.
What kind of weak, narcissistic, pathetic heroine is Elizabeth? I was shocked and appalled that she had coitus with that man (Charlie)- I thought she was supposed to be a VIRGIN NUN... Seriously! Those two characters had no chemistry what so ever! Did not see that coming (pardon the pun). Though, I did enjoy watching Vickers BBQ her boyfriend, it would've been heroic if Elizabeth jumped in the fire to save him. At least then, she could've met her maker.
David, on the other hand was very interesting and engaging - So sinister and misunderstood - just trying to do his ROBOT job- all the while being verbally abused by stupid humans- poor thing. Loved how he looked like Peter O'toole in Lawrence of Arabia- what's not to love about that?! Or, you could say he resembled Bowie's character (Jack Celliers) in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence- kind of acted like him too- all defiant and coy.
Vickers rocked- wish there was more dualistic opposition between her and David- that would've been interesting.
Loved the special effects! Just wish the plot wasn't so scattered and splattered everywhere like some ADHD kid trying to write a book report.
Pros great actors
Cons too complex
