Don't listen to the haters folks! Go see his movie. I saw the movie about 5 hours ago and I'm still thinking about it.
Was it amazing? No, but compared to the vast majority of crap that is usually in the theater Prometheus is very good.
I'm a 'macho' mid thirties man and there were several times where I found myself clenching, and at times a bit afraid.
I could tell everyone else in the theater liked it too. There was this cool, almost stunned silence when the credits started rolling. People were just sitting there not moving. It was a little weird.
Some people here complained that there were too many holes. Well not every movie has to explain everything. Some of the best stories ever told had 'holes' in them that allow the reader to use here brain a little. There is nothing wrong with that. And I didn't really see anything in this movie that I would consider a 'hole.
Others say it was slow. That makes me laugh!
I thought the pacing was excellent and lent to the suspense of the movie. At no time did I think it was slow.
Prometheus is quality over quantity.
Probably not for the reality TV sheep of the world.
Go see it!

If I had not seen all the spoilers on the Internet I would not have known WTF was going on after about the first 15 minutes. Some characters' actions to move the plot forward are irritatingly unbelievable. Others are just incomprehensible. The final shot at the end of the movie, which should be shocking, is instead both pointless and ridiculous-looking--the final special effect that's supposed to blow your mind is the only one that is laughably bad.
The cast, both famous and unknown, is wonderful down to the last & least. It's a shame all their fine work was wasted on this mess of a story. Boo.

I like many went into this movie believing it was a prequel to Alien; Ridley Scott says no. I watched an interview the other night and Scott insists he did not do this film as a prequel. I see many direct connections but personally I agree, you cannot view this film as a prequel. If you do it fails miserably. I have not spoken to anyone yet who has said they absolutely love this film, I did not either. There a huge holes left behind with this movie so I am curious to see if they do anything else with this. You need to see this movie for yourself, if this is a genre you are into.

A week after seeing this movie, I am still PISSED at how awful it was. So pissed that I actually created an account on this site to leave a review for this specific film. I love science fiction and truly thought this was going to be a good film. At least all the critic reviews indicated it was SUPERB, GREAT, WONDERFUL, etc. Now I am certain, Hollywood executives must pay critics to write good reviews. This movie was so terrible, acting, writing, storyline...EVERYTHIING was just plain bad.
When this movie is released on DVD, don't buy it. When it weaves its way to cable television (HBO, Showtime, etc.), just turn the channel and watch a reality tv show instead. I guarantee you will be more entertained than watching this movie.

I've seen the other Alien movies and love sci-fi adventures but this was just a waste of time. The story was awful. I can handle a movie that ends before answering some questions but this acted as an intro to more movies to come, first in a series. There is no way I would even think of going to another one, even to get some answers. The only good thing about this movie was the special effects.
I've been there, done that. I won't even own this one.

As good as it is to see Ridley Scott back in the SciFi saddle, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this movie. I saw the original Alien in the theater as a new release and have been waiting a LONG time for this. The visuals are stunning, the story has promise, but the flick just doesn't quite live up to the hype. In truth, on one of the VERY few days I get to spend with my wife at the movies (sans kids), I would have rather seen MIB III or Avengers (again). Worth the price of admission, just don;t set your hopes TOO hi (as I apparently did). Regardless, thank you Mr. Scott for at least answering a few long lingering questions. Oh yeah, plenty of setup for sequels.

Although they have tried to avoid calling this a prequel, it really does give a plausible premise for the Alien movies. In some ways I think this is the movie that Ridley Scott wanted to make when he made Alien. There is much more focus on the civilization of the life forms discovered in the original movie. It is less of a bug hunt or horror movie and more of a sci fi thinkers movie. To that end it will likely disappoint the casual viewers.

I was skeptical going into this movie at just how good it was going to be. 30 minutes into it however, I was hooked and drooling for more!

The visual effects alone make this movie 3 stars. Add on Ridley Scott as a director and you've got a 4 star movie. Beautiful opening sequences and shots and wonderful pacing made me feel on the edge of my seat for the majority of the movie. I will note that I saw this in IMAX 3D and I feel like if I saw this in a regular theater that I would only give it 3 stars due to the poor acting and dialogue. (The guy from X-men First Class and Charlize were the only good actors.) However, the direction of the film is excellent. Scott did a great job at creating a dark ominous feeling through the film. A lot of you guys are saying the movie is slow and that the action wasn't until the end. However, I see it as story telling. This definitely isn't an all out action film. Ridley Scott uses the environment and the idea of being on an alien planet to keep the suspense. I really felt immersed in the story despite the VERY poor dialogue. Like who lands on an alien planet and just starts touching things for no regard to their own safety or the safety of others? Uh can someone say contaminates? But it is a movie and I guess if they were to play it by safety protocol thenthe whole movie would have been pretty boring. The sets were amazing, the detail of the surgical pod scene was beautifully done, and overall the camera work, direction, and pace overpowered the poor dialogue and acting. A must see only if you're going to watch it in IMAX 3D. If not wait till the DVD.

Ridley Scott has DEFINITELY not lost his touch. Maybe with James Cameron's effort to goad him on (Aliens II) he has crafted another thrill ride. I saw some folks had rated this 'slow'. Guess I'm an old pre-texing fogie who equates that with suspense?

In an era of reboots, re-shoots and CGI, you would think a prequel to one of the biggest movie of the 70's would be downright amazing.
Prepare to want your money back.
Granted the movie is nothing short of a visual spectacle, well as much as a cave backdrop can give you. The ship/aliens didn't disappoint, but they didn't 40 some odd years ago in the follow up of this shamble.
Acting was so so with Charlize Theron being one of the two characters you actually want to see on screen. Idris Elba was the other. Sure Guy Pearce makes an appearance as a feeble Wayland, but sadly Jackass' old man costume looks better.
If anything the story itself is entertaining, I mean a prequel to one of the best mediocre sci/fi trilogies has to have a decent beginning right? I mean, a ship crash landing on a planet and them finding aliens doesn't sound like much of a story, which is why the first Alien is boring, oh wait, sorry that was a spoiler. The only difference between the plot of Alien and Prometheus is the fact the Prometheus is about a half hour shorter.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. The premise was certainly interesting enough. The aliens weren't "quite" how I remembered them. . . I wish I understood more about the "engineers"...what made them change their minds?
There was plenty of action and the special effects were pretty dang awesome.
Michael Fassbender is creepy as hell. Charlize gets hers in the end. Al in all, I'd recommend this to a friend. :)

Prometheus is a fantastic movie by Ridley Scott showing that he still has "it". Despite what many including myself may have heard in regards to what this movie is about, it actually takes a different direction that really is unpredictable. If you have followed the "Alien" movies and the Predator along with the Alien vs Predator movies, you see several strands of tie-ins to Prometheus. Especially if you have seen the directors cut of the original "Alien". It is hard to properly review this movie without giving away too much.
You can tell the directors cut of Prometheus will be even more incredible.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great twist

I agree with the other reviews. This was not a good movie. Where was the story line? It did not make sense, the acting was bad and even the special effects seemed dated. I'm glad this movie was not part of the Alien series, because I would have been embarassed. Can't believe that the Alien movie (made over 30 years ago) was better than this in all respects. I watched the audience reaction and there was none! We kept waiting for something to awesome to happen, but it didn't. There are better alien movies on TV. The ending was awful. Sorry, but this was a disappointment.

As a scifi movie it was great. However, as another movie in the alien genre, it was disappointing. It tried to explain the aliens, but did a disappointing job of it. I prefer my scifi escapist entertainment not to have an agenda especially and anti-God agenda.

I was expecting some mind-blowing revelation on the origins of humans as well as the origins of the Alien species. The film does provide those answers, but nothing too surprising. It leaves many open questions, I assume to set up the next film. Did it entertain me? Certainly --- but it is a far cry from the first two Alien films which are gripping, ground-breaking science fiction at its best. Special effects are pretty outstanding with the exception of the giant "engineer" who looked like a guy wearing a rubber suit from a 1967 star trek episode.
A disappointment, but worth seeing.

I just got home from seeing it and I'm asking myself STILL....."WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???" For the record, "A movie...is A STORY....told through the medium of moving pictures. Whether film or digital moving pictures...there's supposed to be A STORY.

There wasn't ONE character who made me care about them one way or the other....

This movie had such potential but didnt use it. I cant believe that after 30 years this was all they could come up with. Its clear that many decisions were made by the person/people involved with "lost". So many questions and every one unanswered. No explanations of any kind were given. Just more questions raised. The movie was slow as hell at the start..there were a few moments that were visually stunning but the story dialogue and overall execution was poor at best. I had the highest hopes for this movie especially since Ridley Scott was involved..but its clear he has either lost it..or wasnt as involved as he should have been. This was a total bomb..and Im going to have to disregard its existence when I watch the original Alien. I will not sit through this film again...it was that bad.

Combined both the science and dialogue of Alien with the action of Aliens. I loved the origins of man angle as well.
