It was nice to see a real hero movie surface in a current of anti-hero movies. This was the real Captain America and it felt good to finally see him in action. The TV show's plastic shield and goggles were goofy, this was fantastic and realistic.
The 3D on this movie was very nice! At one point his shield ricochets and the whole audience flinched! Definitely a worthwhile movie.

I cannot fault the film on what I didn't like about the movie because what I didn't like about it was something that is inherent in the story line.
I didn't know the story of Captain America so naturally I didn't know what to expect, however I went in wanting to see a super hero film about a guy with super powers and this turned out to be...well not so superheroey.
I don't want to ruin it for the rest of you who might not want to know it but suffice it to say if you are looking for super powers, look elsewhere.
Apart from that the movie is just about OK, I understand it has opened very well but I'm at a loss as to why.
Maybe it has some sort of a patriotic thing working for it which might be the reason.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Great story line combined with super special effects and good acting. My wife and I loved it as did the audience. we watched it with. The 3D is the best I have seen in a while. However, I am sure we would have enjoyed it just as well in 2D. If you're on a tight budget, see it in 2D - you won't be disappointed. I am excited about the potential for a sequel. This is my favorite comic book adaptation to film to date.

Director Joe Johnston got this one right. "Captain America: The First Avenger" is pretty good!!
Steven Rogers was found unfit for military service, but that did not stop him from continuing to try to get in. He volunteers for a top secret science research project. The results turn him into Captain America, a superhero who is dedicated to defending America's ideals. The story unfolds from there...
All of the elements are there. Good story, lots of action, intrigue, special effects and decent cinematography. The story is a little bit heart-warming, a little bit cheesy and has a bit of adventure. "Captain America: The First Avenger" does a nice job of giving you enough background so that you understand the basis for Captain America's existence. There is a 1940's feel along with WWII related scenes. Of course let's not forget that there is a really crazy villian that rules his ugly head. There is also a surprise at the end of the movie that leads into a different movie...you have to go see it to find out.
If you are a comic book fan, you will love "Captain America: The First Avenger".
The door was left open...

Captain America and other movies of this genre are not typically the type of movies I attend or enjoy. I was, however, entertained by this movie. The 3D effects added an additional entertainment factor, although I did find the effects distracting at times (made certain scenes seem cartoon-like as opposed to more realistic). Overall, I enjoyed the film.

Die-hard comic fans may be upset with the fact that this movie has several distinct differences from the story-line they are familiar with, but it was an amazing movie! I don't like that Chris Evans got to be 2 Marvel characters, but he did 1,000,000 times better as Cap then he did as Johnny Storm. It was a great supporting cast, and a fun movie to watch. Make sure to stay after the credits, as usual!!!

This was a fun comic book adaptation that made for a solid movie. Great action throughout and a fairly straightforward "good vs evil" plot. Tommy Lee Jones steals the the show with his usual stoic demeanor and great one lines. Chris Evans played the part of Captain America quite well. I was pleasantly surprised. All in all it was a fun movie that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a little summer fun!

I enjoyed the movie even though it wasn't what I wanted it to be. The plot was clear and well executed. The 3D action sequences worked and came across really well. It was well paced. There were a few laughs thrown in here and there.
I just wanted more than that. I wanted to care more.
The problem was the characters. There weren't actual characters in the film so much as a bunch of plot devices.
I walked in liking Capt. America but had trouble connecting to anyone on the screen. I didn't really like any of the good guys and I didn't really dislike any of the bad guys.
The filmmakers didn't explain Red Skull, for example. He's evil and wants to take over the world. Why? "Just...because, okay. Look at him! He's all red and scary."
The single female character really belonged in the '40s. She was the classic unattainable yet attained, alternating between blindly supportive and inexplicably miffed 'dame'. I'm also a little annoyed that though one character asks point blank why's a British woman in charge of a group of US soldiers, no one actually explains that.
The hero MUST have a love interest. That's the only reason that character existed and the filmmakers didn't put any effort into making her existence make sense. The same goes for every other character in the film.
Is the film fun? Yes. Is it pretty? Yes. Does the 3D pop? Yes.
It's just I got more emotionally invested in the five minute trailer to The Amazing Spiderman than I did in the 2 hour and five minute Capt. America film.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The comic book to movie continues to impress this year. Seeing this pure hearted hero in 3D Imax was the best way to see the comic book hero come to life. It's not only the hero that gets you, but the supporting cast adds to it and that is where others have failed. The 1940's WWII theme sets it, separates it's theme from the rest of the Avengers. Plus, this hero's lack of ego or power struggles is very refreshing. See it & stay til the Avengers trailer shows after the credits.

This movie was everything it needed to be. As good as Ironman. Stay till the end of the credits for the teaser to The Avengers.
I went into this movie with the hope it would be better than Thor and Ironman 2. Although, nether Thor nor Ironman 2 were bad, they both just seemed to not hit as well as the first Ironman. Captain America did not disappoint.
Writers Markus and McFeely did a wonderful job of back story as well as the Red Skull story line. The ending bridges straight into the Avengers. This franchise has a lot of fans wanting more and I expect it will continue to produce. My only issue with Captain America was that it was not an IMAX film. I certainly hope the Avengers will be. This movie is good for the hole family and will inspire a huge toy franchise.

Despite Heath Ledger as best villain ever, Marvel movies continue to pull away from DC like they were standing still. I can't help but think it's the deep characterization (well, "deeper" anyway) as compared to the bland other-verse. And even in the Marvel-verse, Cap really stands out. The long pre-cap story (which flies by regardless) convincingly establishes Steve Rogers as a true heroic character - in contrast to most other heroes who only become heroic after they get their powers.
Now I really can't wait to hear "Avengers, Assemble!" next year!

Comic book aficionados will be very happy with the story line and how quickly they developed the characters, from Bucky to Steve Rogers. From all my years of reading Captain America comics, I don't ever recall there being a "Howard Stark" connection, but I guess it helps bring the entire "Avengers" storyline full circle. The casting was perfect with one exception... In my humble opinion, the guy who played the Red Skull just didn't pull it off. I can think of much better character actors that would have done a much more believable portrayal. If you go see this movie, I'll give you a tip, in case you haven't heard..... You definitely want to hang around and tolerate ALL of the credits, because there's an awesome surprise after the credits! Can't wait till May 2012!!!

First things first. Chris Evans nailed it. When he was cast in the role I felt he could visually pass for Cap, but his smart alec demeanor as Johnny Storm scared me. I knew if he made one wise crack, I would flash back to Human Torch and walk out of the theater. He did a really good job of cap-turing my respect as an actor because I didn't think "Flame On" a single time.
The movie came closer to cap-turing what I saw in my minds eye as a kid reading comics than any superhero flick yet. The fight scenes, especially the assault on the last Hydra base, were spectacular without leaving the boundaries of physics. Each bad guy reacted as if he had really been hit by Cap, not launched by a wire after a fake swing. Small details immerse me more into the movie, and they paid great attention to them.
However, they doinked it with respect to continuity. Marvel is using so many references to tie in these movies to the Avengers, yet they overlooked one of their biggest tie-in easter-egg worthy moments.
At the beginning of the Hulk (Norton) smashes the ice flow and Cap is seen frozen in the resulting shock wave of cracking ice, with his shield on his chest. Yet his shield is found in a different location in this movie. When you use all of these tie-ins, shouldn't you make an effort to get the continuity right?
I rate this movie 5 stars because this 2 hour plus movie truly felt like it was only 30 minutes long. Time flies when you're having fun.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
