Can't quite put my finger on why I wasn't thrilled with this movie. Definitely was expecting more especially from the legendary Captain America. It was better than Thor but not as good as The Green Arrow. 3D wasn't that great. Best thing about the movie was the special effects of the weaponry.

I am waiting on the Avengers next summer so I was OK with the ending. A good movie and good action, I remember reading about the Red Skull and he didn't disappoint. 3D was OK but nothing like Thor. The effects of seeing Steve Rogers as a puny weakling was something and the movie should be credited with doing a great job. Fun movie, and like I said I'm waiting on the Avengers!

It was not really a bad movie - I've wasted time watching a lot worse. But it was not what I would call great, either. It was somewhat entertaining, and I liked the plot. We saw it in 3D and recommend passing on that.... no real WOW scenes.
Maybe I'm just jaded because the last movie I saw was the final Harry Potter and that was so great, nothing can compare. And many of the other Rival Comics movies have been so much better.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Although Captain America was a decent movie had a nostalgic feel to it I felt it was lacking in some areas. The 3D viewing left the movie dark and the imagery wasn't very crisp. A lot of the action was very fast paced and didn't really appeal to me, Captain America obliterating everyone in his path. Also the love storyline of the movie was kind of bland. What really got me was the ending. I won't spoil it but it was dissapointing to me.

Ray Charles, Hellen Keller, & Stevie Wonder would have seen the attempts at the end to set up a sequel. The set-up was long and sometimes tough to get through, bu needed. I liked the 3-D effects, but it did seem to make the image less sharp. Overall, I good picture to escape a Saturday with.

My son and I saw this recently. We both thought it was a good movie, while not a blockbuster. I thought it stayed pretty true to the Captain America storyline, but of course they updated it quite a bit. Overall I would see this again. The 3D is awful though as most 3D effects are.

Overall it was entertaining but not the blockbuster I was expecting from critics reviews. It took half the movie to establish the action. A lot of the scenes reminded me of the original Star Wars movies with hundreds of costumed Storm Troopers. Also the 3D isn't worth it. What you get in depth of vision you lose in loss of vivid color and sharp imagery.

I liked the cliches in the first third of the movie, they were pulled off with the right balance of camp, style and 40's style visuals. But once the shooting began, forget it - the script and plot timeline were spun away faster than a 3D shield. Unlike most other user reviews posted here, I quite enjoyed the 3D aspects and thought they were executed and directed wisely for the most impact. Hovever, it got too boring too soon. Great visuals and style can't make up for lack of plot and incessant shooting without a clear objective. Wow turned into why?.

I took my 7 year old and he really liked it - the movie plays like an old set from a comic book so some may not like it. Overall, I agree with one writer the 3D is not worth it - Idon't remember anything in 3D. Otherwise, a fun movie.

I realize that my review will be in the minority, but really didnt like this movie. Loved Iron Man! But this movie felt shallow, cheesy, second rate and cliche. Not sure if it was the script, director, actors, or all of the above. Just did not like the movie and we all paid $16 a ticket for 3D. What a huge waste of money and time. In a nutshell, ugly red faced shocking villain, shooting, more shooting and more shooting and more shooting. Did not take away more than that.

Of the many movies I've seen in this genre, Captain America hits a wonderful balance between compelling action movie and the "feel" of a real comic book. The camera angles, use of light use of primary colors all come together for a fast paced and thrilling adventure.
If this movie version of Captain America actually were a comic book, it would be a "page-turner."

Captain America is that rare comic book movie that manages to strike the right balance between staying true to its source and being accessible to people who have never read the comics.
Chris Evans is great in the role, bringing the type of charisma you need to wear a colorful outfit while punching bad guys and cracking one-liners. The supporting cast are all excellent in their roles, and the film itself is equally great as a supporting role to the upcoming Avengers film.
It may not win any awards for best screenplay or director, but it's a whole lot of fun for a summer action film.

Let me preface this by saying that I love the superhero film genre in general and have yet to find one single movie that I didn't thoroughly enjoy at least some aspects of... until last night. Captain America was by far the slowest in plot progression, which made the horrible acting and scripting nearly intolerable. Had I not been sitting in the middle of a row, I probably would've just gotten up and left 10 minutes in. This movie had potential to be something special, but wound up making me wonder whether I'll even go to see the Avengers film - it turned me off that much.
I will give it credit for eliciting a few laughs - it does have some rather funny quips in it. However, that would be the only element that made the 2 hours and 5 minutes not question whether I was being punished for some sins in a former life. It. Was. AWFUL!!
Additionally, the 3D was a joke. The times that the film was rendered in 3D were visually impressive, but they were exceedingly few and far between. My eyes were a little agitated in that theater, so I frequently had to remove the glasses. What I found is that 90% of the time, the image was crystal clear WITHOUT 3D glasses - meaning it was in 2D for the majority of the film. Though I understand a production company wanting to save on expenses, it seemed very unfair that I had to pay the enormous amount extra per ticket to see 3D, only to have the vast majority of the film not even presented in 3D.
Bottom line - Captain America would be a great cure for the common case of insomnia, but if you need to sleep that badly... save yourself the extra cash and only pay for 2D.
Very disappointing film - I had really high hopes for this one.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Nice explanation of the Capt. America story. Has the requisite bad guys (Nazi's), the reluctant believer Col. Chester Philips (Tommy Lee Jones - well played), the babe, the tie-in character scientist Howard Stark of Stark Industries (ring a bell?), and of course, the hero. Slowed down a bit in a couple of areas, but overall it was a lot of fun and a couple of times the Real 3D made me jump when the shield got tossed around. Movie is not dependent on 3D, so either version is worth seeing. NOTE: Like other Marvel Movies look for comic book genius Stan Lee making a cameo and wait through ALL the credits. Short and well worth the wait. Trust me.

I don't know who loved it more, me the 33 yr old or the two 9yr old boys with me! The character theme behind Captain America was great for kids...the weapons disintegrated people, so there was not any "blood and guts per se...the two boys talked non-stop on the way home (i had to get gas so it was about 20 minutes) and it provoked other interesting topics about space and time and science and all kinds of things.

What makes Captain America work is that he has no super powers nor great wealth. As he says, he's just a kid from Brooklyn. and a scrawny one at that. He's you and me. Just a regular guy. But what he does have is heart. He's the true believer inside us all. And he never gives up.
This is the story of a runt reject who so desperately wants to stand up for his country that fate gives him the chance as a guinea pig with an experimental serum to make him the perfect man. Not a super man, just perfect. He's as clean cut as you can find. He doesn't want to fight, he only wants to do the right thing and stand up against the Nazis.
But fate is cruel, and when he finally gets his chance, its as an entertainer for a USO road show as the front man in a drive to sell War Bonds. This is one of the best moments in the movie. Watch for the kids in the audience as they see the guy in the production dressed as Hitler hiding behind the chorus girls. This scene come back a few times as a reference, getting better each time. Its a metaphor for the character himself - pure and real.
Its a very well made film. The directing is tight, and with Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci in supporting roles how can it be anything but great.
Stay after the credits to get a glimpse of the Avengers.

An excellent movie that had both action and drama. It was great to see a movie that wasn't filled with cursing and stupid humor. The movie had a solid plot, was well acted, and made you feel proud to be an American!
I was very impressed by Chris Evans acting. He has always played a somewhat simple character in past movies, but this shows that he can be more serious, yet humorous at times too. Another great Marvel comics movie.

Run time is approximately 2hr 4min, and that is a tad bit long. It seemed as if 1/2 the movie was set-up, the other half the action. I doubt that much time was needed to endear us to Steve Rogers, the kid from Brooklyn. But, there were no bad scenes in the movie, and I thought the 3D part of it was well done. It mostly added depth and texture to the flick, with a few good "comin' at you" moments. Evans was fine - good even - but I wouldn't say he portrayed Cap just like the comics. He was far more humble. With Cap in the comics, there was always a little bombast, a little "I know best." Not so much in this movie. Hayley Atwell is smoking hot. Tommy Lee Jones did his part and was pretty funny. Hugo Weaving was great as Red Skull.

This movie was good, quick action, a few jokes here and there, and a cute little love story. I used to collect comic books a few years back and I read Captain America, I would say that Chris Evens did a good job portraying the leadership roll that CA is in the comics. All I ask is don't don't go looking for Academy award material, just sit back, relax and enjoy this fun action flick and you will be satisfied.

This movie had a great story line to go with the special effects. I liked how Iron Man's father is an integral part of this movie...Make sure you stay through the credits for a preview of The Avengers!
