I liked it. It was different. Those of you who are familiar with Wes Anderson won't be surprised, but I had never seen one of his films before , and I liked it but it was quite different. The acting was great for the most part; the only negative was inexperienced actors, but there were quite a lot of experienced ones as well-so it balanced out. Good story for the most part, as well. Overall it was a splendid movie, that was worth watching.
Wes Anderson’s latest cinematic treat is about two misfit kids who decide to run away together. They’re 12, after all, and they know what’s best and besides the boy is the knock-off version of an Eagle Scout and the girl has her magical binoculars. They’re in love and nothing else matters. With the whole town searching for them in the New England wilderness and a record-breaking storm approaching, the two young lovebirds cover some pretty mature and touchy ground for their age, and a scene on the beach between the two is a sure mark of the actors’ maturity, for it will make most people think twice about what they’re watching. But director Anderson doesn’t flinch in this scene, just as he doesn’t through the whole film. He boldly paints a beautifully constructed (his cinematic framing is unparalleled) portrait of life as a youngster, and all of the awkward moments and feelings that entails. It’s a quirky, heart-felt, emotional stroll through our memories, with rich, lively characters that only Wes Anderson could bring to the screen.

A sweet, awkward movie about growing up and how parents just don't understand
This is a great movie to just let wash over you. It's quirky, awkward, sweet and lots of fun to watch. This is a great movie for watching kids grow up, fall in love, deal with bullies, "escape" their parents and make a life for themselves. Loved it!
its a Wes Anderson movie directed by Wes Anderson. I really enjoyed the development of the two troubled teens.
Pros well paced, great story

The film is shot and composed to evoke the early '60s and does so in an almost mystical way. Well written and acted, every character maintains deadpan throughout. Adults are kind, if flawed, and the children have not become cynical or jaded. it's more like 1962 than 1965 to be picky.
As an eccentric kid who grew up in this period wearing a coonskin cap to school everyday, surrounded by offbeat friends and uncles and aunts like Walt and Laura and sharing secrets with my own "Suzy Bishop", Wes Anderson took me to a place I haven't been for fifty years and had forgotten. That is magic.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, suberb direction, excelent cinemtography
First I think it's a Masterwork. Almost every shot was framed like an early film by George Miles. It created a naive childlike look for the story. And the costumes and and sets were so filled with old fashioned details, hooked rugs, plaid shirts, pajamas, and knee socks (to name a few off the top of my head) that the set(s) itself was a big partner in telling the story, a silent partner but one that said a lot about the characters. The line readings were curiously with out dramatic readings by the kids, they talked more like the hardboiled detectives of Dragnet. And the balance was perfect the set screamed at you while the children were calm. Movie Magic. I loved it and so did everyone who went with me the first time. The second time I went I took a friend who likes to know the genre of a film, and this was out of the box and his comprehension. He could only dimly recognize it as " A foreign film made in America." I LOVED IT!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great art direction, great camera set ups
Unique, quirky characters in this coming of age story make this latest Wes Anderson film a must see. As his other movies, this comedy touches on some serious themes - bullying, depression, isolation, loneliness. A must see for everyone especially families with tweens or older children.
Charming, sweet, delightful, poignant...I recommend it highly. The well-known stars did a great job in roles atypical for them and the adolescent actors were superb and appropriate.
Anderson never loses his core themes - young love, the need to escape, the bind and bluster of family. His "Kingdom" may not be large, but it is perfectly appointed. A sweetly kooky ode to the intensity of young love. The movie balances broad comedy with occasionally surreal quirk, while still holding the emotional center. It's funny, it's touching, it's Anderson doing what he does better than he's ever done before. A must see if you can find it in your area.
This was such a different movie especially considering Edward Norton & Bill Murray were both in it. We absolutely Loved it! We took our 20 year old and she enjoyed it a well. Great movie!

Very cute movie, easy to follow and it definitely held my interest. Great mix of Drama, Comedy & Romance.
This is the type of movie that gives art fils/indie films a bad reputation. I love Edward Norton, Bruce Willis and Harvey Keitel, but they were all wasted in this film I should have known to stay away with Bill Murray in it; he was never funny and he certainly cannot act (think "Lost in Translation") I'll miss the FDR/King Edward movie because of him.
Do not waste your money even in a "dollar theater."
Cons bad acting, slow
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The way I described this movie to my mother is that it is kind of like Napoleon Dynamite: it is such a strange movie that you almost have to like it. Overall, I would say this movie is pretty good. Some of the situations in the movie are rather strange, but the acting and story line kept my attention throughout the whole movie. There are some situations in this movie that I would say are inappropriate for young children, hence the PG-13 rating. But, I would still recommend this movie to anyone.

Moonrise Kingdom is a sweet and quirky look at childhood from a not to distant past. Great Art Direction with a true vintage 60's feel. The film looks like an aged Instagram effect with Kodacolor. The acting and story are superb. It really brought me back to the style of my tween years. Tre Wes Anderson!

Moonrise Kingdom, although funny and lighthearted in many respects, treats the attachment that these two children have for one another with warmth and tenderness. In fact, the adults are also vulnerable and honest, too. Each person approaches their lives with the sincerety it needs, and no one dismisses these children. They're welfare is at the heart of the movie and the focal point of everyone in the cast. Shakespearean and Andersonian, at once.
