Ok, so it's not going to win an Academy Award but this is a really good movie. It made me fall in love with Tom Cruise all over again. I fully expected to think the younger actors were not good but they were very good. A lot of tongue in cheek and if you don't laugh at Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand there is something wrong in your life. I left feeling very upbeat and happy and sometimes that just what you need in a movie!

I grew up in the 1980's and just HAD to see this movie.... I definitely was not disappointed! The acting was excellent, the music was awesome and the story line was realistic. Tom Cruise did an excellent portrayal of Stacee Jaxx... I never would have pictured him in the roll of a rock star, but he did a great job and, believe it or not, he has a very good singing voice! There are some cameo appearances of various music artists who were big in the 1980's... so be on the lookout for some very familiar faces. There are also major references to the PMRC - those of us who grew up in the 1980's will remember what that was all about. There is quite a bit of sexual content in the movie that really is not appropriate for children, so please leave the kiddies at home. The film had lots of funny moments and had everyone laughing, and the soundtrack had the audience singing. All in all, it was a really enjoyable film, and I am really glad I had a chance to see it! I definitely recommend this movie and cannot wait for the DVD!

Loved the Music & the story! I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the story and the music! I saw the play and I didn't really enjoy it, but I would recommend this movie highly!

At first I forgot this was a musical so when Sherrie started singing on the bus and the whole bus started singing along, well I had to remind myself this is a musical. I was questioning whether Tom Cruise would be a good choice for an 80's rock god but he hit it on the head. I was very entertained the whole movie so I give it a thumbs up.

Absolute fun!! The dialogue is hysterical. The premise is a little weak, but the music and Tom Cruise's performance more than make up for it. My husband and I were still laughing and doing dialogue outtakes an hour later. For a fun evening that brings laughs to you, go see it....Harmless entertainment!!

My wife and I did not know what to expect when we went to see it. We are big fans of the Broadway show, and were blown away by the overall fun, great acting and sheer energy of the movie. Many funny moments, great songs and a good story combine into a high energy movie that should not be missed for all those that grew up in the 80's.

Rock of ages review: i was extfremely hiesitant to see this movie and, thank you again Em, it was a great combo of love, sex and rock n roll. Diego is a hottie who can sing, Julianne is a show stopper too! And the largest underdog in this musical was Tom Crusie who nailed the part of Stacee Jaxx. i give it a solid A- cuz some parts are just overtly creepy

I really enjoyed it alot. I loved going back to 1987. I grew up on these songs. Tom Cruise did a great job. He definitely has 80's big hair band quality!! I took my 15 year old daughter (Huge Hough fan) and she loved all the singing and dancing. She sung a few bars herself. I also invited a mid age couple who isn't very fond of musicals per say, and I could see them really enjoying themselves towards the middle of the movie. I just wanted to get up and sing along/dance - more than once through out the movie. It had love, comedy and music. Three of everyone's favorites.

This movie starts with a bus filled with strangers all singing along and progresses to become pitiful. Great songs from the 80's are ruined. I could not decide whether it was a spoof or a poor try at a somewhat serious/musical presentation. Tom Cruise did the poorest performance as a rocker - he was always totally spaced out and ridiculous.
What a waste of a movie ticket.

The story is so miniscule and familiar that it would be silly to even criticize it, the main relationship is annoying, the lead actor's voices are over-produced, the whole thing is a little Bollywoodish, and it's not silly enough to really work...but it doesn't matter.
Those things stop it from being a great movie, but it's a lot of summer fun, particularly for anyone who grew up in the 80's and early 90's. Cruise's performance in general, makes the whole thing worthwhile. His sex-capade duet with Akerman is pretty damn funny, and the other characters just turn this into a ball of fun. Sure Giamatti is just reprising his character from the Howard Stern movie, but he is still fun being evil, and Brand is great when he has a minor role like this. Baldwin is amusing, and everyone seems to be having a good time. See it at matinee pricing, and you'll get your money's worth.

I was guarded about spending money to see this movie in theaters, especially in the director's suite of the Moore Warren. It seemed from the trailers that it would be just another movie loaded with stars and no substance. It wasn't at all. If you love the music you will love the movie period. It is never boring and I laughed throughout the entire movie both at myself and the dialogue.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

The movie is getting bashed but most of the people doing the bashing aren't giving it a chance. Yes, it's a Broadway style musical in movie format and the stars do their own vocals with moderate success, but it also documents the end of an era, the end of the 80s rock star, the wild hotel trashing party life, and the end of a decent guitar solo in a song for the next 12 years. That's what the movie is really about. Online posters are saying Cruise is too old and too much of a jerk to play a young rock star. He isn't playing a young rock star, he's playing an aging, burnt out, older star who's just realizing he may not be relevant anymore. By the end of the movie he has an epiphany and turns himself around. Tons of cool 80s songs. Me and my kids loved it.

Rock of Ages has fantastic toe tapping songs. Starts out like a musical, but then gets into the inter-twining story lines. You leave the movie ready to go dancing.

I GREW UP IN THE 80'S SO IT SEEMED LIKE I WAS WATCHING MY BIOGRAPHY. YOU KNOW ALL THE WORDS SO SING ALONG. I WAS VERY PLEASANTLY SUPRISED AT TOM CRUISE PERFORMANCE. IT WAS ALSO FUN TO SEARCH FOR 80'S REFERENCES IN THE BACKGROUND, AAA+ CRAFT SERVICES. A YEAR FROM NOW I WILL BE PURCHASING THE DVD AND CD DOWNLOAD FROM ITUNES.

This movie is essentially a farce. It does not take itself very seriously. That makes it fun to watch
The music is great.
The plot and dialog linking the movie are only so-so.
I went to this movie to see Tom Cruise. I was not disappointed. Tom was riveting. I'm not sure he pulled off being stoned or dissolute. There was too much fire in his eyes. But he was still riveting, because he is who he is. HIs costuming was amazing & probably showed his body to better advantage than anything we've seen before. I was stunned that he was willing to wear that thing, but he did.
Mostly, though, his singing was incredible. Tom is so brilliant at learning new skills quickly and he really did for this movie just as he has for so many others. His singing was better than anyone else's, which is amazing, since we've only heard tiny tidbits of singing from him before.
Pros music, tom cruise, great monkey (actual animal performing), leading lady very pretty, sexy costumes, silly
Cons ho-hum plot

I was looking forward to seeing this movie and it did not disappoint. I did not expect the plot to be great - and it wasn't. I went to see and hear the eighties again - and I did - complete with spandex, Aqua-net, guy-liner, and awesome tunes! It was as racy, colorful, crazy, and fun as I remember the eighties...
Pros fun, great music, comedy and satire
Cons plot was a little lame

The story is weak, it's basically about a small-town girl who goes to Hollywood to make it as a singer and she meet a boy and falls in love. It's important to mention that this movie is a musical with many, many song and dance numbers used to tell the story. Where this movie shines is the music! The soundtrack is full of great 80s rock songs from the likes of Journey and Def Leopard. It songs rock and the movie rocks whenever they're singing. It's the non-singing parts that are somewhat painful to watch.

If you enjoyed the 80's and 80's music this is a great movie for you. It is a little sappy -- but it is a musical, not a serious movie. But it is a hoot and fun time - and who knew Tom Cruise could sing like this!
