I like many fans of the original was skeptical about this remake. But unlike most others, I have read the Phillip K. Dick story it is based on. In this regard this film is more true to the theme of the story than the first Recall Movie.
Colin Farrell is not Arnold but that's a good thing because this Recall is deeper and more relevant to our current time. The first rate supporting cast is lead by Kate Beckinsdale in a performance that puts her in contention as one of the greatest screen action villains ever.
Also I have not seen such a full realized futuristic cityscape since Blade Runner. This fil with all of our new tech outshines Blade Runner in its realism inventiveness and style.
Critics have been hars in their reviews but I urge anyone reading this to give the film a try. Don;t live in the past. This future kicks ass.
Pros well paced, great actors, special effects, kate in tightie whities.

First of all...they had a tough task to live up to the original. And the larger than life hero types that have been casted with people like Arnold Sylvester Stallone and others....it's very difficult for someone else to pickup the role in a remake. All of the little snide comments from Arnold in the original just made the Houser part. I waited all night for Colin Farrell to shoot Kate Beckinsale and say " Consider that a Divorce". The movie went from one action sequence to another with just bits of dialogue which made the plot difficult to follow. With the dark tone to the lighting it was often difficult to tell if it was Beckinsale coming after Farrell or Biel coming to help (they needed one of them to not have long dark hair...the hairstyles were too similar). I really wanted to love this movie....but it just didn't happen.

Cons hard to follow, remakes are tough

Rather than remaking the same film that Schwarenegger starred in, this is a reboot and reworking of the story with less tongue in cheek and more fist in the face action. The pace is extremely brisk. For those who have seen the original, there are little treats and for those who have not, this stands very well on its own for a new generation. Its a different story but with the same concept. Is it real or is it recall? Does it matter? Frankly, no! Its fun and a great summer thrill ride.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A solid action film where director Len Wiseman and the writing team avoid the trap of trying to be more meaningful or thoughtful than necessary. Between Beckinsale's feral killer, and Cranston's mix of wry humor with authoritarian villainy, this smart update streams like a bullet train. Kudos to filmmakers, who do it all sans the 3D/IMAX frills.
Altogether, it makes for a noisy, 100-mile-an-hour action fest, perhaps a notch more mentally challenging than your average Jason Statham film. A must see.
