It was the typical special effects laden action fest that has become the norm in Hollywood in this genre. Enough so that it's not really special any longer. The acting was a little wooden and the story felt flat and somewhat unrealistic. Most of the dialogue, even when lifted from the original, didn't come off well. The action scenes are worth a watch and you'll find yourself drumming your fingers during everything else. There's no real sense of suspense during the slower scenes and nothing about the actors really draws you in. For such a richly executed world there's never a chance to really see it and get caught up in the enviroment either (say ala Blade Runner). In the end it's great if you have nothing else to do and can get through the first bits until the action kicks in and, basically, just forget plot and story which is by far secondary in this film. Just go and watch it like a fireworks display and you'll be satisfied. You won't be thrilled but you'll be satisfied.

Total Recall turned out better than expected.
I went in thinkin, "oh, here we go again" with another lame attempt at a remake. However, I was wrong in that original thought as I felt the story was actually better, (to me anyway) than the original.
Special effects wise, it was visually awsome I thought.
And by far Kate Beckinsale is the HOTTEST bad gal out there man, (I hope she reads this, LOL) she can chase me around anyday.
This movie by far was not epic, but it is one worth seeing for some summer movie viewing honestly.
Check it out and judge for yourselves.

This movie was a poor attempt to remake a classic movie. There were elements of about 8-10 other movies packed into this almost like a farce. The CGI work was excellent, but could not hold up the poor dialogue and acting of Colin. Even as a guy, I thought his best moment was when he had his shirt off. And the two actresses could interchange and we'd still not notice because they are practically twins. This movie should have went straight to DVD and then still sold for $3. Wait until it is on Netflix, then it's worth watching for a good laugh while you review it with friends.

The movie had a lot of otherly influences: Blade Runner, the original Total Recall, and the fights scenes looked like they were right out of the Bourne trilogy of movies. But the acting was good, the ladies were gorgeous, the story seemed true enough to the book and it was a totally enjoyable 2 hours of entertainment.

The Acting, Directing, Action Sequences, Visual Aesthetic and Design were excellent. Story and character development were the only weak parts of the film. The plot re: the cause that the resistance members were fighting for was not compelling enough to be invested in as an audience member. I was more invested in the main character's pursuit of his true identity. Kate Beckinsale's character, 'Lori', had no real motivation for her vigilant hatred and venom towards the main character. The writers' choice to have her character absorb the traits and actions of the 'Richter' character from the 1990 original was a poor one, solely because this remake did not give the same (or ANY) reason for the 'Lori' character's vendetta against the story's hero. Even with these weak points, "Total Recall" (2012) was an entertaining movie.

Decent plot, but would have been better if it were more complex. Should be rated R for the nudity (topless three breasted woman). I don't know how much they paid the movie rating organization to pass it for PG-13 but that was absurd and entirely unnecessary. Good action and graphics. Plot line was interesting. Since Colin Farrell is not my favorite (he has one facial expression), I enjoyed the original, and usually do not believe in remakes (if the original was good, why does it need to be remade, and if the original was bad, why bother?), the best I had hoped for is "not horrible." But I thoroughly enjoyed the new Total Recall. Colin was not required to do much besides bare his chest and look confused, so he was fine. The supporting cast was good. The special effects were outstanding and nostalgic (it looked like a combination of all our favorite sci fi moves from Star Wars to Blade Runner). Even, if you saw the original, the twists were fun. It is not an Oscar nominee, but a very fun weekend movie!

I think the story-line of the original movie was a lot better. The sales pitch by the rep at Rekall, the dynamics of the impact of of the dictatorship of Cohagen, the obvious implied advances humankind had made in order to colonize Mars were all missing and detracted from the success of the movie. The special effects, and acting, while spectacular, could not help the movie recover from the damage done by the screenplay/storyline changes. Had I never seen the original, this movie probably would have fared a lot better in my review.

If ur looking to see a remake if the original, u will most likely be disappointed. In my opinion, it was still a awesome movie and I would go see it again.

I went into this thinking it would be a well thought out remake of the original book or movie but it is not. No Mars, no Alien city, no reason to cheer - the central bad guy is "the Fall" which is essentially an elevator through the center of the earth connecting England and The Colony, which looks a lot like Hong Kong. For some reason, it is always raining in the Colony.
It takes 17 minutes to travel between the two. England is the bad guy, The Colony is the good guy, the Fall is how they get between the two because the rest of the earth is a wasteland. (The worst part of the movie is when the good guys get out of The Fall and climb up it in the middle of the earth. OMG are all of us really that stupid?) The Recall story is the same - a double agent who turns - but other than that don't thnk it is anything like the book or original movie, - it's just another glamour shot.
Pros great actors, beautiful
Cons dumb story, lacking the spirit of the original book

Bring back the original Total Recall! While cheesy throughout, at least you could laugh and enjoy the storyline.
This new remake is just one fight/chase scene after another with little else in between.
Skip it and save your money for the real thing - James Bond.

My bride and I loved the first total Recall and going to this movie was an excellent companion movie. We loved the storyline. We loved the acting and especially the effects and graphics.

This is a good remake of the original. Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel make many of the scenes easy on the eyes, while delivering a strong performance alongside Colin Farrelll. Overall, excellent non-stop action movie from start to finish with many good heart-pounding scenes.

This is another one of those recent remakes that appears to have been done solely to appeal to an audience that wouldn't recognize the original actors - so it really didn't need to be remade. The original version, starring Arnold Shwarzenneger and Sharon Stone and directed by Paul Verhoeven, was only made about 20 years ago. While Colin Farrel's acting is much better this version is excessively dark and depressing and there is no comic relief. The original took you on a wilder adventure (although no less plausible) and actually did a better job of making the viewer wonder whether what they were watching was real or whether the character was imagining it.
Pros great actors, visual effects
Cons dreary, humorless, lacked originality

This remake of an 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic is nothing more than a bad video game with zero gravity.
Seriously the problem with "Total Recall" is you are not given any upfront information about what's going on and why. You are left to your own devices to figure it out.
Colin Farrell a factory worker who resides on the "Colony" is having dreams that he cannot understand. The dreams seem so real when he is asleep, but when he is awake he can't understand them. Deciding to seek some help. He goes to the "Rekall Lounge" (Yes it is spelled with a "k"). Once at the "Rekall lounge" everything goes wrong and he uses skills he did not know he had. He escapes and goes home to his wife (Kate Beckinsale). He then tells her about what happened during his evening. She tries to comfort him, but everything goes wrong and he finds out his wife is not who she says she is. The story unfolds from there...
As I stated earlier. The plot and reason are missing. The best parts of the movie is the cinematography, cool special effects, lots of action and cool electronic machines. There is some very bloody fighting. You will be reminded of "iRobot", "Blade Runner" and maybe "The 5th Element" but there is no real suspense or drama. I could have easily taken a nap.
Don't waste your money on "Total Recall". Wait for it to come out on DVD or Blue-ray or just watch the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger version. His was better.
Cons no plot, lacks suspense, boring

I really wanted to enjoy this movie, I loved the original total recall, and hoped that they would carry the concept thru, but I felt that the movie fell far short of its potential. if I had not seen the original I would probably like ir, but as a remake it leaves much to be desired
