The battle sequences in this movie were way too long. My only complaint with the special effects, were that they were way to much of them. The movie could have benefited with less action and more dialog. I do not recommend this movie for children 10 years or younger.

I thought this movie was excellent! They tweaked the story from prior movies and I thought it was well done. Very well done. Acting was great, story was great, special effects were great! Would really recommend it!

Not a comic book/Superman fan, but was definitely drawn to this movie. Has both funny moments and moments that make you teary eyed, filled with lots of action and a great story flow. Henry Cavill did the role (and the suit *wink*) justice!

Very entertaining movie. We went on Father's Day. The theatre was crowded but the audience was very attentive and absorbed so it was as if it were a more private showing. Really good movie!!!

The Man of Steel movie was everything I expected it to be plus more! I thought it had a great story line, and the acting was amazing!! Everyone was casted for their part perfectly. Much to the surprise of a few people reading this based on the reviews I'm seeing here, Man of Steel was perhaps the worst movie about Superman I have ever seen. Man of Steel was incredibly boring. I wish I had better news to report. But there you go. I went in thinking I was really going to enjoy it. I really wanted it to be good. But I was so disappointed.
The acting was wooden and stilted. It sorely lacked the emotional depth in the performances necessary to carry the story. I don't actually blame the actors however. They had some experienced actors here who - given a real story - could have made a huge difference in this movie. I blame the script and the director. But it was hard to make up for the lack of story in this. I feel that this was a failed opportunity to really make a truly effective moral statement. Superman actually began to make that statement while being interrogated. But this was never returned to. And this after having to wade through countless scenes of incredibly forgettable performances.
There was no defining moment of Superman or real sense of true heroism.This Superman never seemed to find his own discovery of who he was. In my opinion, the character of Superman seemed as lost in the end as he was in the beginning.
The action packed sequences were amazing. But instead of preventing mayhem like previous incarnations of Superman, he joined in. He was a menace not a peacekeeper. The hero I wanted to adore instead was as much part of the problem than a solution to society's woes, smashing through buildings in a such a way as to be incredibly reminiscent of 9/11. I thought that part distasteful and incredibly naive of the director and the scriptwriters.
The score was done by none other than Hans Zimmer who is a personal favorite. Yet even Zimmer could not salvage the movie which was dying a slow death throughout. There was an incredible opportunity missed to relay the true altruistic positive message of Superman (who is not dark like Batman who was haunted by his own unresolved traumas). Yet again I do not blame Zimmer or anyone other than the director and scriptwriter for how emotionally shallow this movie was, how it relied almost solely upon special effects and lacking the true substance in the story line that make memorable movies so great.
Cons bad acting, too complex, undefined story, bad direction
No, I do not recommend this movie.

My 2 sons and I went. I have been a comic book fan all my life and my older son as well. My other son was skeptical of Superman but said it was awesome. It did not overplay the story of Superman and did just enough to get an understanding of his life growing up (Costner was great). Just enough human interest as well (not too syrupy). Zod was terrific in his role. Faora was outstanding in her role. A Real bad ass. She was one of the best parts of the movie in my opinion. One small hiccup for me was there was too much going through buildings in the end with Zod and Superman battling it out. But that is really just a trivial complaint really. Hooray for DC Comics .Anyway - go see it!

This movie is definitely worth the price of admission! The back story is well done, the acting makes you root for the good guys and despise the bad guys, as it should, and it evokes true emotion. The director knew what he was doing and he did it well!

The good: Henry Cavill is a great superman. Loved Russell Crowe too.
The bad: The whole movie was one big battle scene. Way overdone. Where was the plot and character development? Did not like the flashbacks. Felt like an afterthought. Would have liked to see the story in more sequential order with more time spent on Clark Kent and family and less on the destruction of the city that went on and on and on and on...
(Spoiler) Plus, I thought Superman and Zod were both indestructible. How did Superman kill Zod simply by breaking his neck? Bombs couldn't kill him but a simple twist of the neck and... Very unbelievable. I love action and big loud movies, but that's all this was. Could have been so much more.

However, it was a enjoyable, action-packed time at the theater. I just thought that there was something missing for it to be a memorable, amazing super hero movie. I did find it, simply, generic and cliche. One of the things I feel was missing was good humor, because, although, you don't need humor if the tone is right, but I felt like the tone of this wasn't that dark and it almost felt light, therefore, it needed humor. Did it have humor? Yes, but I didn't laugh and I thought the majority of the "jokes" have already been done before and didn't fit in. The actors did a good job, especially, Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe. I just feel like the script , in dialogue, was very weak sometimes. I never truly hated the villain, General Zod, which is essential for a villain. I never really got a sense of true darkness from his character, which sounds weird, but it's true. An example is, obviously, Heath Ledger from The Dark Knight. I like Michael Shannon, too. I'm just rambling, and picking every little thing that bothered me. In my reviews, I usually find everything I dislike about, so don't get mad at me. The visual effects were very good. It was a little slow, to me, in the beginning, I don't know why. I guess I was never, particularly, interested from the start. However, after all of those rants, I think I would give it a 7 out of 10, because it was still enjoyable.

I love action packed movies, especially the super hero type stuff. The beginning of the movie starts out great with the whole Krypton back story about how Superman came to be. It begins to peter off when he comes to Earth. The flashback scenes are cool but they leave you wanting more. Too much time was spent on the destruction scenes and fighting scenes...very drug out. Kinda hard to watch when you know there won't be a winner since they both possess the same power and can't inflict any harm to one another. I didn't really care for how they killed his earth father off....kinda pathetic if you ask me.
Pros backstory on krytpon was great
Cons slow, not enough back story on characters, too much time spent on the fight scenes

I was longing for Lex Luthor by the end of the movie and didn't think the destruction of Smallville and Metropolis was ever going to stop. . the movie focused more political aspect of the planet Krypton rather than on Superman's character. I very much liked Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as his parents. Lois Lane knowing Superman before he came to the Daily Planet as a reporter was a twist I'm not sure I like after growing up with the Superman TV series. If you like massive non-stop CG effects and little content this is the movie for you but I much preferred Ironman 3.
Pros kevin costner and diane lane were great parents
Cons too many cg effects detracting from the story

The movie was super awesome!!! This Superman movie is by far one of the best I have seen. Very entertaining. It had me totally into the movie and on the edge of my seat. Very well acted and good storyline.

I want to start by saying I was forced by the boys in the family to watch this movie ... but I actually enjoyed it ... the actors are easy on the eyes ...

The story line was more about the history of Krypton & how things came about, which is fine. I'm hoping that this leads to a 2nd movie, more focused on Superman himself. I would see that without force now that I've seen this movie. I did wish there was more focus on how Superman learned of his abilities & his acceptance of it. That seemed to have gone too fast in the movie, because more of the focus was on Krypton.

This movie was a huge disappointment. If you are a traditional Superman fan, you will probably not like this movie. However, they could not have cast a better person to play Clark. There is so much carnage and devestation left behind by the battle in the city, it looked like a nuclear bomb had exploded; completely over done. The story line was so different from the actual original from the comic books, it was unbelievable. It was sad to see such a vengeful version of the super hero we all grew up loving. Too bad, it cold have been great.
