I could spend a great amount of time expressing my enthusiastic appreciation for this film; however, I find short synopses best: Great Fun for the entire family. My only "complaint" is the latter part of the file was dominated by special effects: technology very nearly overwhelmed the humanity of the story - much like the theme of the story itself. Interesting. I LOVED Christopher Reeves' first couple of Superman films, and they will remain my preference, but this action-packed edition is well worth the price of admission. We'll be buying the DVD.

Man of Steel is the best Superman movie hands down. Its well written, directed, and acted with a more credible telling of the story than any of the past versions. It manages to be current and topical while staying true to the old story lines. The casting is excellent with some fine acting by Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and Russell Crowe. Although I was unsure of the choice of Henry Cavill initially, he truly embodied the character of both Clark and Kal-El.

The story itself is very different than any previous version of the Superman saga. This is the story of an alien civilization that has lost its freedom. The children are created in test tubes to fulfill a specific task like bees in a hive. Their planet is doomed and the one proponent of free choice and goodness sends his only born son to earth where as he says he will be "a god".

There are scenes where the use by the military of drones is questioned, where civil liberties are ignored, and where Superman is the victim of prejudice. But there are also powerful scenes where people change and grow. The most memorable is the boy who taunted the young Clark on a school bus. When Clark later saves him, he is forever changed. It is redemption at its best when he later assists Clark. Its all wonderfully handled with just the right blend of sentiment and story.

Don't expect another Christopher Reeve here. Expect more. Its a great film!

A gripping, exciting, story filled with heart and action. A Man of Steel indeed, whose backstory is well told and related without feeling like it’s an origin story. Well-paced, wonderfully acted, and Henry Cavill *is* Superman.

A Superman fan for decades and this is the one both movie lovers and fans have waited for. Christopher Reeve will always hold a dear place in my heart and Donner movie is legendary. Singer told a good drama, but this movie takes the best aspects of what makes not only a great Superman movie, but a great movie period and doesn’t fail to delivery astoundingly.

Could it be slightly action heavy in the second half? That’s a matter of personal preference. None of it feels wasted or exaggerated and this movie at nearly 2.5 hours goes by faster than a speeding bullet. It is the best Superman movie ever made and easily one of the best movies of the year.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire movie!!! The story was excellent and certainly kept our interest. The action is terrific!!! The special effects ... very well done. There's not a dull minute in this movie. I've seen the other Superman movies and yes, it was difficult, initially to not see Christopher Reeves playing Superman, but Henry Cavill did such a wonderful acting job, that quickly any disappointment was gone. Christoper Reeves, I'm sure, is proud to have Henry Cavill play our hero. It is such an outstanding movie and one that I would see again and encourage my family and friends to go enjoy for themselves. See it .... you'll love it. It's just a "WOW!!" movie.

It is definitely better than Superman Returns. The story at times slowed down. There was enough action to keep the interest of action fans. However, it still falls short of the other super hero movie franchises (Batman, Spiderman, Wolverine, etc.). Superman is a beloved to all, hopefully the next movie will be more entertaining.

(WARNING SOME SPOILERS!) I watch a lot of movies and every now and then I work on them in LA doing camerawork and other various jobs. I had EXTREMELY high expectations for this movie, which is usually not a good thing, after I saw who was working on it and what Goyer based the story on. My expectations were met ten fold. These kinds of movies are very rare. Movies that keep you thinking days after you see it. There is so much packed into this movie that I bet so many will not understand the depth of what this film actually represents.

One thing that always bugged me with the other films is that there wasn't much emphasis on him being an Extraterrestrial. It's kind of a big deal and the other films just kinda brushed it off. This film, the film makers really explored that aspect and added so much to the character. Where does he belong? How can he be accepted to a race of people who are not on his level evolutionarily?

Superman represents pure goodness and they portrayed him as just that. I really felt like he was someone I could look up to, to set a moral example of what a person should be. Every scene he's dealing with how he's going to use his power and how or if he's going to help someone in need. He makes his choices very carefully with the guidance of Jor-El(Holographic representation of his consciousness) and his adoptive Earth parents, the Kents. This film even explored a Plutocratic Eugenics society that is on Krypton and how it becomes a failure and that a planned society is lacking the one thing that Earth still has evn though it is slowly disappearing...that thing is freedom. One scene you'll notice Clark Kent reading a book about Pluto when he gets knocked to the ground by bullies when he was a kid.

Now here is another theme in this movie, you have characters that have good intentions to save their own people from the US military and Zod. The ends justify the means is their mentality. From Zod essentially exterminating an entire planet's life to preserve his own people and the US government just going on a man hunt to find Kal-El. Snatching up Lois Lane, totally disregarding her rights, and the drones used to spy on the nation to find Superman.

One thing that is interesting is that one of the main characters was a DARPA employee. That's the agency that researches all the really cool high tech stuff. (Look up the Petman Robot) His character was there to be the expert on the Alien technology and figure out it's capabilities. One thing that I would've put into this movie is speculate on what our own government has been keeping secret that is way beyond what we know we have as far as military tech. But since the film makers needed the cooperation of the Pentagon with this film, they probably just left that part out.

Oh....the Music. I watched an interview with Hans Zimmer and how he was so afraid to score this film because of the memorable score that John Williams did. He worked so hard on this score and I think he nailed it. The score is VERY different from John Williams' and like what WIlliams did, Zimmer really captures the essence of the character. My favorite piece is called "Flight" used in the scene where he flies for the first time, you really feel as if you're flying with him with the way the camerawork was done. The drums and the slide guitars that are used really capture the feeling of the middle America Kansas, where Clark grew up. The juddering sounds used when Zod is on screen really make you feel he truly is a force to be reckoned with. The violin solo that was played when Krypton blew up really captured the tragedy of a lost people.

The only thing that I didn't like, was that the movie was too short, even though it's 2 hours and 23 minutes, the movie is VERY fast paced, and I wish it was about 10 minutes longer just to get a few extra shots in there to slow it a little bit.

Alright, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and hope you will too.

Some of the fight scenes were a bit over the top and too long, but overall this was an enjoyable flic and an interesting take on the Superman genre. It is also interesting to note that Superman's father is "El"- Hebrew for "God" and Superman's name is "Kal-El"- the "Voice of God." Never occurred to me the Biblical connections in the story- but there are quite a number!

Wow! What a disappointment!
The previews were great. All the reviews I got from friends were great.
But then sitting down watching this was something else.
In the first scenes, I thought I was watching the flying animals from Avatar.
Then as that animal was zig zagging through the buildings, I thought I was watching Star Wars.
Then there was all the Matrix similarities: the human pods, the insect/crabs things on the pods, the magnetic beads in the shape of face.
I was falling asleep.
There was so much potential. Oh, well.

Keep in mind, I have seen all the original Superman comic books and movies. I thought the reminder of the basic story was well-done and I had forgotten a few trivia bits. The special effects were superb. The acting was ok, but the story drug along.and I found myself sleeping through parts of the movie.

Being a big fan of the Christopher Reeve films, I was VERY upset by the hirrible move Superman Returns. It made me not want to see this movie very much.

After all the hype though and good reviews from friends that I knew and trusted, I went to go see it. I was VERY happy I did.

The acting was well done, even by people I am not usually a big fan of (Russel Crowe). Also they took a couple liberties with original story such as the fact that Lois Lane is NOT stupid in this movie. She knows whats going on almost right from the beginning and she knows how to take good pictures also (No need for Jimmy Olsen) and she is a hard-nosed reporter like what you would expect.

I especially liked that you got more background on what exactly happened to Krypton... or at least this movies version of it.

After waiting for so many years to see the caped crusader fly again, I was overwhelming happy with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. If I had to give the movie a grade, it would be a B+. Here's why.

From the opening frames I was intrigued and curious, but had no idea where this Superman was flying to. I purposefully stayed away from all promotions leading up to the movie premiere - so I was unaware of the story. I was blown away by the Kryptonian origin story, as the movie showcased a unique take on the birth world of Kal-el. The hi-tech world had an alien look and feel - some of which we've seen before but others we haven't. This fresh take was very enjoyable and it was also unexpected to me how much a role Russell Crowe would play as the father of Superman. We now know where he got his athletic skills from as Mr. Crowe dash across the planet to save him son from the destruction of Krypton. We also know where he received his compassion from, as his mother had a ton of scene time unlike past movies.

As we move to Earth, we learn how Clark Kent came to be through very well place flashbacks to Smallville, KS. We see how the boy became a (super)man and how he was raised by for Earthly foster parents, the Kents. But Clark had a long struggle as he tried to figure out his origins and why he’s the way he is. When he learns what he is capable of, watching him in the suit for the first time brought back many childhood memories.

The impending threat against Earth by a convincing Michael Shannon as Zod really gave the entire story a sense of doom Superman had to avert. This story made me want to root for Zod a little - but just a little. That speaks well to the acting and direction of the movie writers, producers and staff.

Amy Adams unfortunately did not come across as the spunky Lois Lane we all fell in love with in the 1978 Superman movie. Unfortunately, the love connection just didn't happen in my opinion, as the chemistry didn't stir.
Harry Lennix as the US general did a fantastic job. And Laurence Fishburne as the new, re-imagined Perry White was a big surprise to me.

All in all, I plan to see it again. If you haven't, you should.

The action was non stop. It wasn't cartoonish. I thought it was written wellIit made sense. The action scenes were awesone. It was well done and if there is a sequel I will be in line to see it. Loved this take on the Superman mythology. Snyders vision of Krypton was amazing. Loved how they worked the reason for the suit in as being standard Kryptonian wear. The non-linear format worked well in telling how Clark's personality was formed. Oh, and the effects were amazing.

The special effects are great and the actor playing the Man of Steel is impressibve but the plot that the movie centers around - a group of former Kryptonites led by Zod who are convicted of crimes there, sentenced to eternal oblviion and then escape and come to Earth to threaten the human race and take the planet for themselves - has been done already in a former Superman movie. I expected originality and imagination in the producers "science fiction take" but it is not here. A big disappointment.

After a story has been retold countless times in film, written word, and verbal telling, how do you tell it again without losing your audience? Apparently you change a few of the basic tenets and add your own twist. It actually works pretty well in this movie, but purists will not be happy with even the most minor of changes in the basic story. The cast melds and blends well and the overall effect is both exciting and pleasing. It's amazing how some of the stars who used to be tier one feature film actors actually do some of their best work in a supportive role. Again, overall a mostly good film, unless you are a purist, to whom this story in its original form is sacred. I enjoyed it a great deal .

Great movie, good take on the storyline, a bit too long with the final fight scene - sometimes it was a bit too hard to follow the action (you know the outcome, building the suspense 3-5minutes longer can wear out the viewer), but overall enjoyed the movie

It's a no brainer if you're figuring out the VFX, and special effects of this movie. Zack Snyder stuck to his traditional gray/brown background settings. Brilliance is his style of directing. One of the best fight scenes I've ever watched. This Superman rendition is very humanized. It pictures a Superman set in a real world which really touched my emotions. Background score composed by Hans Zimmer was once again spectacular. Paying for a seat in the cinema is definitely a bang for every buck! Watch it!!

I do not mind a "reset", however, this Superman reset was very depressing, bleak, and visually dark. Clark Kent wondering from job to job, city to city trying to find himself and never having really explored his super powers is unrealistic.
Apparently, he never pushed himself to find his limits. It seems he never attempted to learn to fly until the bad guys came. What took him 33 years to learn, took the bad guys about 5 minutes to learn, in the scheme of things. The special effects are way over done- too much destruction. Finally, Superman becomes a killer.
The plus ... Amy Adams is refreshing as Lois Lane.

From reading the other reviews here it seems people go to see this show for different reasons. If you're going to Man of Steel for the most popular reason people view a show... To be entertained, this show foots the bill. I am less concerned about following the comic version of Superman and more concerned about getting my monies worth for 2 hours. Fantastic visual effects wrapped up in a great plot keeping me on the edge trying to figure out what would happen next. It's a good movie when you can't predict how the show would end. I cant understand how someone would rate this a bad show especially when you compare it to all the current junk that Hollywood puts out these day. GREAT SHOW!
