for some one who's new to superman its a great movie ,for longtime fans its still a good movie. I think they crammed too much at once....but maybe I'm just too old school and have different expectations. the effects were great and sometimes alittle overkill for me I think it movie went to fast like a blur and personally I had gotten confused in story line. was glad to see Lexcorp it gave me a timeframe for the movie and it made more sense ...but I left still un sure. as for General Zod....im still processing all of it.... I don't hate it , im not sure that I love it. I would Recommend it if your new or a long time fan just to see something Different .

Woah to the negative people out there. This was an awesome retelling! So many things made this a worthy Superman movie to me! Lois isn't an idiot who treats Clark bad, the action scenes were awesome and his agony as the last son of Krypton is so compelling. Nay sayers be ignored. I loved this movie.

I would have appreciated the writers sticking more closely to the true Superman origin. How his J. Kent died, his relationship with Lois Lane, etc... The 'modernization'/modification of the Superman story was unnecessary and unwanted.
Great action! Happy to see Superman being 'super'. Not getting the short end of the stick from lesser foes as in past renditions of the character (including animated versions).
All in all, good movie...not great. LOTS of special effects/CGI but almost too much. Seems this is what the filmmakers were hanging their hats on. I would still put the first Christopher Reeve movie above this one. At least that one stayed true to all aspects of the original story.

I'm 49 years old. I've seen all the previous Superman movies. First, let's start with a review of the MOVIE: (1) the entire movie was full of rubble, buildings crumbling, (2) Zod arrives in a Spaceship which looks like every other "space invader" movie. The acting was fine, the story was horrible. It starts with Superman as an adult and through memory flashbacks introduces his childhood story. Poorly done. The camera kept bouncing around. For some reason, Hollywood thinks the cameraman should be holding the camera, instead of fix/mounted. This contributes to the feeling the entire movie of being on a boat...moving with the waves. Horrible. Nauseous. Boring story line, space-craft from Star Wars Meets the Transformers, no bold colors. All gray, black rubble. Now, the theatre: I specifically purchased tickets at the Mesa, Arizona, IMAX...only to be seated in a "regular" theatre. Despite that in the lobby was a giant illuminated display advertising Superman in 3D and IMAX...yet this theatre only had Pacific Rim in the Imax theatre!!!!!!! I felt like a "bait and switch"...I bought my tickets directly from their site, too. The theatre was about 5 degrees too warm. Actually was sweating watching the movie--and add to the fact it was warm, boring, and I'd just had some snacks, found myself sleeping in the movie. It was THAT bad. Do not go if you are an adult.
Pros good character choice for superman
Cons too complex, slow, not imax screen, no vivid colors, poor character development, theatre too warm, bait and switch: it wasn't in imax or 3d
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Ever since the '78 disaster Superman: The Movie (which made me boycott every one after that), I have been waiting for something true to the spirit of this superhero... and finally got it!
This is what it's all about - the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it went on about a DAY TOO LONG! Man, why not fill out a few things from his childhood and make this a Part I and Part II - would have been much more watchable.
But all in all - great fun.

I loved it!!! I am a HUGE Sunperman fan and I love how they made this movie. The story surrounding Superman is always the same and the way they played that story out was great.

While it is not DC Comics redemption in the movie industry it is a damn fine movie! While I didn't like the ending, and feel a much better solution was readily and easily available to Superman, the movie overall was good. I will be buying the Blu-Ray. If you are saying to yourself I'm not willing to take another chance on another Superman movie and I will just wait for the DVD, please do not wait, go see this movie today!!
