This movie was unique from beginning to end and was absolutely heartbreaking at times. Kudos to Glenn Close who was excellent and worthy of her Oscar nomination.

...and one that will garner many diverse reactions - to be sure. I found Glenn Close's performance to be outstanding and worthy of Oscar buzz. This is not a "happy movie" and is definitely for adults only ....and adults that are eclectic in their movie tastes. I really wanted the movie to have a happy ending for Nobbs and, while there is a hint of happiness for a few of the characters touched by the life of Albert Nobbs .... Nobbs, himself/herself, reaches an untimely end. An interesting character study chocked full of characters and with a political bent that demonizes well-to-do folk while taking a high view of those working class people that serve them. All in all it is worthy of a theater viewing for the amazing job done by Glenn Close and the historical ambiance, cinematography and general narrative. A rhino horn up.

It is hard for me to imagine what string of events brought this film to life. I found Glenn Close almost unwatchable in this role, and it shocks me that she's received an oscar nomination for this performance. The other actors are good, with a particularly moving performance by Janet McTeer. But the story itself is unsatisfying and is ended somewhat abruptly. Bad idea, bad script, bad movie.

A perfect example of impeccable acting skills leading to the most entertaining suspension of belief. Glenn Close's performance is brilliant, believable, moving and.emotionally wrought. I adored her in this film and really loved it, sad as it was.

I really wanted to love this movie but was left wanting a bit more. While Close's performance is neat and tidy, it's far from Oscar winning. It's impressive just how much she looks like a man. The support characters in the film are also wanting for a bit more depth and genuineness. With so many other Oscar winning prospects out there, I'd recommend waiting until this is on DVD.
