With some silly changes to be "politically correct", the movie took some broad swings away from the book. But the premise is still fun and the cg is excellent. I wish they had focused less on Mary Todd and more on Lincoln and his fellow slayers. I loved this premise for the book and especially hated their treatment of the ending in the movie. But as a vampire movie lover, this is still a fun visual journey. Way too much gore for younger audiences. Great music score. I wouldn't pay to see it twice, but will buy it when it goes to DVD.

My eleven year old son and I went to see Abraham Lincoln last night. I am a huge Tim Burton fan and have seen every vampire movie on the planet. I was very excited to see this film and have to say I was not dissapointed. It was a very good balance of history action story telling and gore. I thought the acting was pretty good as well. It did not rank quite as high in marks in some areas as others. For example the horse scene, the horses look like cartoons,kinda silly. There were a few other hokey parts.Not what you would expect from Burton. My son loved it,he gave the movie a 4.5 overall. He loved all the action and the vampires were a little creepy and brutal. (boys like that stuff). I gave it 3.5 that is why we agreed on 4.0 overall this movie is a must see if you love vampire flicks like we do. If you like action I think you will not be disappointed.

I'm not one for vampire movies (ever since the Twilight saga ruined them forever) but I was really blown away by AL-VH. When I saw the poster and trailer a few months ago I thought it was going to be awful, but I was very wrong. The effects/artwork and scenery shots were AMAZING! I was sad that the ending wasn't the same as in the book, cause that ending was fantastic, but it was a good ending nonetheless. Go see it, and punch everyone in the face who complains about it's "historical inaccuracy"... it's a movie about vampires, shut up. :)

I thought it was a good movie. It had lots of action and great effects and makeup. Good, but strange, indeed, story adding a totally different perspective on Abraham Lincoln. Very far-fetched, obviously, and had a lot of flaws from the truth of Abraham. It had a couple of twists that impressed me. I thought the acting was pretty stellar. I thought the movie had a couple of clever quotes, and Abraham's original quotes mixed in there; with quoting scripture, as well. Overall, it was a "good get-away movie", and I suggest it to you if you are looking for something different, and exciting. It is very violent throughout the film, and there is only two scenes questionable.

"True Blood" this is not. For the most part, this movie tries to create an alternate history for Lincoln as vampire hunter. It's not a very good movie and the action sequences are full of slow-motion with exaggerate physics. In other words, one blow from an ax can take down a tree. It's completely ridiculous and not worth the time or money to see. If you're curious, wait for it to come you by cable or Netflix instead of going out of your way to see.

My wife and I saw this movie yesterday and were very impressed with the story and special effects. At first when we saw the advertisement for it my wife was hesitant to go see it because of what she believed was dishonoring such a great President and man. However, I convinced her it was not like that and so we went. The film was very well done and linked many of the historical events that we have all come to know (Mary Todd, Douglas debates, Gettysburg Address, death of his son Willie, etc).
We recommend seeing this movie as a slightly different perspective on the great man Abraham Lincoln.

This was an awesome movie! Best that I've seen in a long time. Read the book and though the movie doesn't quite follow it, I think it surpassed the book. Loved the CGI effects and the vampires were really scary! Did feel the horse stampede scene was a little improbable, but hey, they get artistic license. The train scene was great! So much tension and so thrilling to watch! Loved the actor who played Lincoln; he looked so much like him. How cool was it that he used an axe to behead the vampires? Watching him juggle the axe was amazing! I wonder if he really learned how to do that or if it was special effects? A bit of history thrown in for good measure. Made me smile when I heard young 20 somethings asking, "Who was that?" when a historical political figure was mentioned. Thought the vampire Sturgiss was played excellently by that actor and he got a lot of sympathy from me. About the only negative was making the Confederate soldiers vampires! Why is the South always portrayed as the bad guy and someone to be feared and hated? Don't know if they used reenactors in this movie; didn't see the credits. But I think a lot of them would have declined because it made the Battle of Gettysburg into a mockery of what actually took place there. That said, and put aside, I loved this movie and will watch it again. Have already recommended it to friends and family. Hope it has a sequel set in present times!

This movie was a combiination of history, action, horror and good story writing. The actors were great, I especially loved the action scenes and was on the edge of my seat during the horse chase scene and the bridge scene. Yikes. Overall it gave you the action and an interesting story with a bit of horror that also provided a little history lesson. I enjoyed it as did my friends.

My husband and I both wanted to see this movie for two entirely different reasons: vampires (him) and great book (me). Both of us loved the movie. There was plenty of over the top action to satisfy those who love traditional vampire stories-the two scenes that standout are the horse scene and train scene-both just incredible. I was pleasantly surprised that the story was very good and engaging. Although slightly different, the movie held true to the book. The actor playing Abe looks like a young Liam Neeson and he did a great job. And as always, Dominic Cooper delivers.

This movie was just a ton of fun to watch! I'd even call it "Historical Fiction" at its best!
It was like seeing a live-action version of an awesome Japanese Anime film! The wild story, special effects, and kick butt fighting scenes made this one a real winner! Not to mention the colorful cast of characters!
If vampires make your skin crawl and heroes with integrity make your list, then this bad boy is for you!

It's sad to say, but in a summer awash with sequels and reboots, a movie that is both effective and original is a rare treat, no matter how many history teachers it pushes into early retirement. Works best when Bekmambetov is let off the leash, and goes WAY over the top. Worth seeing as long as you go in with the right frame of mind.
This has enough vamps being decapitated to keep you interested but isn't as gloriously silly as the title. If ever there was an "either you're in or out" movie in 2012, it's definitely this one and if you're in, it just might be the most satisfyingly guilty pleasure of the year.
