I brought my 15 yr old because we had both read the series. She loved it but I on the other hand was a little disappointing. They did do a great job having the movie line up with the book, however it felt as though a middle schooler was doing a book report.... a really long book report. It wasn't horrible and I would say it is worth renting when it comes out on DVD, but it felt as though they tried to cram 2 movies into one. The story line kept moving, which was great, but you were never given a chance to get to know the characters and fall in love with them. The books were MUCH MUCH better!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

My son read all three books on his Ipad in 7 days and kept telling me I should read them before the movie came out. After we watched the movie I was hooked! This movie was exciting and dramatic, emotive and elating! You cheered with her and cried with her and begged for more! I am going to read all three books now and pray they make the next two books into movies! I cant wait!

The movie was great and Jennifer Lawrence did a great job as Katniss, as did the other actors. I liked the way they used the commentary booth to address and describe certain things in the game. Of course there are things I feel should have been included or emphasized more. First, I think the whole incident where Peeta provides the loaf of bread could have been emphasized more, especially when Katniss saw the dandelion the next day and knew things were going to be OK. That is such a symbolic and important incident, it should not have been left out. There could definitely have been a bit more character development of Peeta, especially his wit. Gale was practically non-existent, but that's not entirely surprising for this film. They should have also shown Haymitch drunk and falling off the podium. Of course, we could always have used a bit more Cinna.

I didn't want this movie to end despite it being over 2 hours long. The action was well balanced with the character and story development. I have not read the book since it was first released, but it helped refresh me on all the key characters and important information. They did a great job keeping all of the most important aspects of the story while keeping it moving. Every actor well was well chosen and I can't wait to see it again!

I have read all 3 books in the series and was eagerly anticipating the movie release. I was not disappointed in the movie. It was well acted and did a great job of staying true to the plot of the book. However, if I hadn't read the book I would have found the movie to be a little weak. I don't think it is an outstanding, stand alone movie, but serves as a great side order to the book. The book is the burger and the movie is the fries.

Great movie. Held true to the book. It's so rare that a movie is as good as the book, but this one is. It is a must see for any fan of the book series. I can't wait for Catching Fire.
I'm going back next weekend to take my 10 year old who read the series. I think it's fine for mature children (I was worried after all the hype and wanted to preview it before taking her)- it wasn't too graphic.

Good movie overall, but didn't live up to all the hype. I didn't read the books and expected more action. For example, we expected some awesome bow&arrow action from the girl, but had to settle for the "big scene" of her shooting apples from a bag?! And the movie alluded to the boy's great strength, but when did he use it?! Most of the contestants were killed off as soon as the games started. That would have been OK, if we had seen the main characters really doing something awesome, but they didn't. Good story line and great cinematography. Overall good movie, but we didn't see what all the fuss is about. Guess we'll have to read the books now.

What a great movie! Although I hadn't read the books before seeing it, I thought is was well made, well cast, and well acted. My wife, who has read the books, explained some of the things they left out, but I don't think the omissions hurt the film at all. I can't wait for the next film in the series.

I truly enjoyed this movie and appreciated that it represented the book well. I wish they could have shown more of the relationship with Ru prior to her death. Catnis was amazing, the character in the book brought to life. She did an excellent job of presenting as detached but feeling very deeply for those she loved and her presentation was strong.

I was expcting a dud compared to the book and was pleasently suprised that it was not! Jennifer Lawerence as Katniss was great! I would have liked to seea little more development of the relationship between Katniss and Peeta. Overall, I would reccomend this movie!

I thought the casting was dead on, and the visuals were amazing. Really good contrast between the districts and the Capitol. I did feel that they really compressed the time in the arena. You felt as if they were only there for a couple of days. However, overall, I feel they were true to the spirit of the book.

Sometimes a movie comes along that has minor flaws but delivers entertainment. I would much rather have this presentation. The ultimate goal for me and a movie is to be entertained. The acting for the most part was believable. Jennifer Lawrence makes a compelling and beautiful woman that as a guy I would definitely court in my younger days. This is key for the male audience. In the Twilight series I never saw myself attracted to Kristen Stewart. I see Hunger Games continuing with the the other two parts of the series. There is so much material to be explored, and I look forward to the next saga.

I have loved many books over the years but when it was turned into a movie I have disliked it. I was afraid that would be the case with The Hunger Games. Boy was I wrong! I saw the movie twice on Friday and it was actually better the second time!!! I am in the process of re-reading the book so I can go back and see it again this weekend. Hollywood did a great job with this one!

Overall all this is a good movie that manages to follow the flavor of the book remarkably well. The only issue I had with the movie was the film techique at the beginning. I understand the need/desire to obscure the violence with the hand held film affect but this was not a good feel or look for the beginning. The filming style made me feel ill and set a bad tone for the start of the movie.

Hunger games was a great movie. I had a lot of expectations and each one of them was delivered without any flaws. The supporting cast was just amazing. They helped raise the movie to a high level of movie quality. Lenny Kravits, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson were truly on their best performance. I highly will recommend the movie to many of my friends. The short peaceful moments you get in the movie are sufficient enough to catch your breath. The most interesting element used in the movie to build up a scene was silence. There are many silent moments in the movie that lead into a nonstop action sequence. Great job!!! We went to see the movie at Santikos Northwest Theater in San Antonio, Texas. It was a very pleasant location. The movie was loud, the picture was clear; and the concession staff was very courteous. Overall it was a great experience. We are already planning and looking forward to going back to see WRATH OF THE TITANS.

I really enjoyed the movie but the camera work during the action scenes was horrible! It was so shaky and hard to follow it reminded me of "The Blair Witch Project". Other than that I don't really have anything bad to say about it. I don't understand why they changed a few things they did; for example Peeta losing his leg toward the end, I thought that was a pretty big piece but it's no longer included. There were a few other things that were switched or not included that confused me but that's movie making. But I really did enjoy the movie and hope to see it again soon.

I hadn't read the books, but took my 12 & 13 year olds and they LOVED it. They said it was the best movie ever.

The movie was good, but the book was better. Back story and character development was absent from the movie that took up pages in the book. We went with a friend that hadn't read the book and he didn't understand how everything fit together at the end. The movie was good, you should go see it. But you should read the books first to get a better understanding of what was actually happening in the world of Panem. Two thumbs up for homicidal teenagers.

Great books, good movie. I am pleased with how closely the movie stuck with the details in the book. I thought they could have shown Peeta with more integrity and emotional strength as in the books. Not ever sure how you can fall for the characters in a movie as you do the books. I'm very pleased with the casting choices. Great visuals on the difference in the districts vs the Capitol. Although there are noticeable differences, the likenesses found between this movie and the book greatly overshadow those. I found the same emotions running through me as when I was reading the story. Great story of politics, action, and love, I highly recommend it, but agree with the PG-13 rating. I have young children and would not want them to see this, but that's my own judgement. The actors really have chemistry and I cannot wait to add this DVD to my arsenal!

As many have mentioned, the movie lacks many aspects of the book (as I would expect). I do believe they could have done a better job providing background on the key characters. I applaud the film maker for making a film about the evils of fascism and the fascists disregard for human life. I was concerned about taking my 11 year old due to the violence described in the book. I heard that the blood and gore wasn't that bad which is why I decided to take him. It was a good decision as there was violence but nothing too bad to be disturbing for kids 10 and up.

I read the books then saw the movie n I think they left out some important scenes that were just needed like when haymitch gives katniss the sleeping stuff to make peseta sleep n when she comes back wit the medicine peeta wakes up n she is a pool of blood.... I think that would be good to be in there... I also think they rushed a lil too fast in the games... But still liked a lot it was really good
