I have been reading the books and I'm currently on the 3rd book. The movie completely met my expectations. I know they normally make changes from the book, but these were minimal and the movie was very well done. Good job cast, crew, etc!

Wow! “The Hunger Games” was a terrific film! Being a fan of the series it was hard for me to separate the good from the bad in the movie. Not to say that the movie was bad or anything like that. One big question on everyone’s mind is “How closely did the movie follow the book?” The movie followed the book pretty closely however there were a few things that were not in the movie. Madge the daughter of the District 12 mayor was not in the film and I don’t think the mayor was either. So the Mockingjay pin was a gift to Prim from Katniss who ended up giving back the pin to Katniss before she left for the games. I wasn’t too upset with that change. I understand why this change was made but you only catch glimpses of the Avoxes and Katniss’s prep team. I viewed them as bit characters in the book and going back to the fact that movies have time limits their lengthy scenes were cut from the movie. The Capitol gadgetry was taken down a few notches which was a very good idea because if all the gadgets were kept in then District 1 would not have had the same feeling as it did in the movie. Don’t get me wrong the gadgets in the book were really cool but I think the director (Gary Ross) did not want District 1 to have a really overpowering futuristic feeling. Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay for the film so you know that she made some of the decisions as to what would be cut from the story of the movie and what wouldn’t. Sadly that has to happen with any book movie. Movies have a time limit books don’t that is one thing we must all come to realize. Some other things were changed but not too much I don’t want to go into further detail because I don’t want to ruin the movie for anyone or the book for those who haven’t read it or who are still currently reading it. Overall the changes were not bad and I enjoyed the movie the way it was. Now, for those of us who have read the books “The Hunger Games” was pretty gruesome at some parts. The movie was kept at a PG-13 rating because director Gary Ross knew that these books was appealing to all ages and he wanted all ages to be able to see it. I understand his reasoning for doing so and it’s a good thing that he did what he did. A part of me wishes that it did have an R rating and another part is just fine with its current rating. The score was really good! It was intense when it needed to be, It was soft, romantic, and adventurous when the scenes called for it. James Newton Howard never ceases to make great film scores that are memorable and incredible. This will be a score that I will add to my collection and listen to again and again. The acting throughout the film was great! Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Woody Harrelson, all had great performances as Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch. The cast was wonderful in this movie and I can’t think of anyone better. I know people say that a lot but I am serious I can’t think of anyone else to play these characters. One thing that I didn’t like after a while was the fact that the camera was way too shaky during a lot of the action scenes and sometimes the actors looked all blurry. I think Ross was trying to make the audience feel like they were right there in the action. That is not an easy thing to do with movies. I like the fact that he tried. It didn’t work out too well though sadly. The shaky camera is really my only huge complaint with this film. Don’t let this stop you from seeing the movie though. It is worth paying full price and worth seeing! “The Hunger Games” lands a solid 4.5 out of 5! Fans will not be dissatisfied with the movie adaptation of “The Hunger Games”! Go see it and may the odds be ever in your favor!

I have seen many books turned into movies and I am usually dissapointed in them. Not with Hunger Games. They followed the book as much as they possibly could. I loved it. Of course there were some things missing and somethings that were a bit different but I thought they did a great job.
I highly recommend the book and the movie.

I read the books and thought they were exceptional, so I was a little nervous about the movie. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they did a fantastic job sticking to the book; although some details were missing, that is not unusual given time constraints for movies. I look forward to seeing the next two.

haven't read the books - I just came along as the designated driver for my teenager... SO I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed this movie. The plot was engaging. The story was easy to follow. Most of the acting was excellent. My only complaint would be the amount of violence. I'm looking forward to the next episode!

The Hunger Games was a really engaging book series. Unfortunately the film suffers from the same thing that plagues most book to movie adaptations; the lack of depth. The connections between the characters are vague at best without the internal narration of Katniss, leaving people who haven't read the books to guess as to what one person means to another. I didn't expect the movie to live up to the books, and it was serviceable for what it was.. However, I hope the film makers decide to ditch the shaky cam effect that was abused throughout the movie. It really took away from the film, making it almost impossible to tell what was going on during the more violent scenes of the games. Would I recommend the movie? With caution.. go in with realistic expectations, and those with motion sickness make sure you bring your Dramamine.

First of all, I never read the books. I found this movie to be very good. It was way better than I thought it was going to be. I loved that it wasn't a "chick flick" and sappy and all. It was somewhat predictable, but I would recommend this movie to any man or woman.

The movie wasn't what I expected. Although it was good, it was confusing. I went with people that didn't read the books, one being my son. He's so smart he caught everything and wanted explanations. Like why was Gale's name in the jar 42 times. What was the scene with the coalminers? What was going on with Peeta and the bread? So many important details were missed. I had to go back and explain what the book had said....during the movie. They couldn't have taken the time to be a little bit more informative? The movie would have made better since to everyone.

The movie was great. Definitely worth taking the kids to see it. It was different and kept the audiences attention. I liked all the action and each actor and actress played their part very well. At times, it felt like you were in the movie. Great flick to see and now I want to read the book. Can't wait for the next movie to come out.

Within the 1st 5 minutes I was sick to my stomach due to the fast moving camera. Everyone that I had gone to this movie to see it with (10 of us) made mention of encountering a bit of queasiness. Mine lasted the entire movie! Movie goers beware, if you deal with 'motion sickness' take caution! Try a seat far from the screen or take some medicine before hand. Otherwise what little I seen and heard were great.

I went into this movie with some pretty high expectations since these books were AMAZING - so basically I already set myself up for disappointment. This film did keep very close to the book except for a few details which is something that seems to be very hard to do so in Hollywood so kudos to that. There were certain points that I felt could have been expanded more since they will be important for the next two movies but overall the point got across. I went with 3 others who had never read the books and they thought it was great so at the very least this movie does give the basic gist of the book which is really all you can ask for. As an avid fan, I'd say it left me wanting but I'd probably watch it again.

I read the book and I was quite satisfied with the movie and how close it was to the book. At almost 2 1/2 hours long you don't realize how long you have been sitting there. I can't wait for Catching Fire!!!

It's not Citizen Kane, but it's far better than many other movies of its ilk. Acting was really good -- the vapidity of the citizens was well done and the sinister aspect of the president was brought out well. Very suspenseful throughout the first act!

Get past the overuse of the shakey camera and understand that not every bit of the story can be shared in movie form and you've got a fantastic flick with amazing costumes and undeniably great acting. This movie really captured the emotions of the characters and I fell in love with every one of them. I also enjoyed how the movie allowed its viewers to see what was happenning back in the districts during the Games, something the reader doesn't see until later books.

Because the movie had a lot of ground to cover from the first book, there was not as much character development as I would have liked, but it was more than made up for by the excellent casting. So much was conveyed by a look, a stance, and the right people playing the characters. My whole family loved it.

If you have read the books I would definitely recommend seeeing the movie. I was extremely happy with how well the movie resembled the true events in the story - there was very little that was changed, and can only hope they do as well with the remaining 2. Nothing is more annoying than having a movie based off a book when there are too many changes made. Bravo!!!

The Hunger Games was an excellent movie! I would recomend it to anyone that likes movies period. Not for younger than 10 years old I would say due to the graphic violence in some scenes. This had a great story and plot to it. The movies leaves you wanting more! I can not wait for the next two movies to come to theaters. I have not read the books but the movie was very good and you don't have to read the books to get into the story! I have heard from others who read the books that it does a great justice to the books though. Not much more I can say without giving away the story. Excelent acting by the young cast wonderful performances they make you believe they are the characters! This is a must see to anyone who likes movies! This will not be a waste of your money going to see this movie! You will be glad you did.

Excellent movie! Followed very closely with the book which was very detailed (hard to do in a movie because of time constraints). This is the first movie over 2 hours that I wasn't looking at my watch to see the time.Saw this with my 15 year old daughter. We can't wait to see "Catching Fire" now!

The movie successfully captured the intricacies of a book so full of detail. While it's true that not everything transferred from book to film (or the film would be forever-long), it was a successful attempt at capturing most everything critical. I was disappointed to see that so little time was spent on establishing the severity of starvation and exhaustion, and also the excess and general ignorance of the capitol populace, which I think will be crucial to the following two films.

I'm a big fan and read all the books. This movie had a lot of potential with a great cast. Not sure about the Peeta pick, but everyone else was excellent. The big problem that ruined the movie was the shaky camera throughout. This made it very difficult to watch, and I have seen this style ruin other movies as well. It's a real shame, that it was so hard to watch(without getting sick!) during any decent action sequence. I really hope they get rid of this horrible director for the next 2 movies, or you can count me out.
