The movie stayed in line with the book, for the most part. It left out a few minor details, but it seemed to keep the most important things in the movie. The movie leads into the second movie well with the mood of rebellion in the air.
My only qualm with the flick was that it lacked a lot of relationship development. The extent to which relationships were formed seemed to be rushed, so that some people were not very important. Overall, incredible movie - just hope for more depth in the next one!

The movie was true to the book with very few minor changes that didn't change the plot. If every detail would have been included, it would have been a mini-series (although, I would have watched it). If you do read the book before you go some things will be more clear. The book series is totally awesome as well as this first movie in the series.

I think it did a pretty good job of keeping with the book. I wish more of the cave time between Peeta and Katniss were in the movie. I also think the bread/pig scene should have been shot with younger actors since they were younger when that happened.

I thought it went very closely to the book and I understood all the minor changes they made and was very proud of how well done itwas. It was wayy better than Twilight and almost up there with Harry Potter.

Pretty good, moves nicely along. But why are cinematographers hooked on this jerky camera motion, especially during fast action or fight scenes? I had to look off the screen during the fight scenes to keep from going blind. Use the steady cam and make your fights scenes worthy.

A very good job all things considered. Stayed true to the book with a few minor departures, but nothing that will affect the story moving forward.
Did not do a good job of establishing the realationships Katniss was working through or how it all affected her.
I would have liked the camera to stay in one place more often. The constant movement got annoying.
Overall very well done.

This movie was very accurate without becoming too long a movie (2 1/2 hours is lengthy enough!). The actors were all extremely talented and fitting for their roles. I already made plans to see Catching Fire with my friends! If you read the books, believe me, you will NOT be disappointed!

This movie was just as good as the book. While there were a couple of items in the book that were changed for the movie adaptation they did not take away from the story. The storyline was evenly paced and it was one of the rare times that a movie over two hours in length didn't have me looking at my watch.

I am a 43-year old man who went to see this movie without any prior knowledge of the book or the plot. I purposely avoided any of the hype so I could enjoy the movie as a standalone product.
This was a mistake.
The story was painfully predictible, there were gaps in character development as well as logical flow and the visceral thrills were all dumbed down for the target audience (teenage girls). I mostly blame myself for this, not the movie, but I suspect this movie's intended audience will love it while someone who loves good movies will hate it.
If you are a grown man, save yourself some time and money, or give it to your teenage daughter so she can see the movie twice.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Great movie! I read the trilogy before I saw this movie. I thought the movie did about as good of a job adapting a great book into a great movie as one could hope for, with only minimal deletions or changes. The cast was very good & I thought, overall, the movie did justice to the book. I'd recommend it & have, to anyone that asks.

I loved it. I honestly was a little nervous about them doing a movie on The Hunger Games. Most of the movies that are over books, do them no justice, but the Hunger Games was phenomenal! The casting was great, the actors were fabulous, and the story was pretty much by the book! I am totally going to see it again! :)

Excellent movie! Very entertaining. The script and scences were great. No lag time during the movie. This is a great movie for teens as well as adults. Fight scences were just enough to elude to how violent the "games" were but not too bad that a teen couldn't handle it. Very interesting plot and almost a futuristic twist on the play "The Lottery" A definate must see!

I read the book before seeing the movie however, my husband did not. We both absolutely loved it. He did not understand how Thresh knew Katniss befriended Rue and did the thing with the flowers. I think in the book they went much more in depth about each character. He said hey the movie was already about 2 1/2 hours long. It could have been 4 hours long and I would have been on the edge of my seat loving it.

HUNGER GAMES REVIEW: The movie that all of the teenagers have been waiting for. The next BIG franchise to fill the gap that Harry Potter has left in Hollywood (and Twilight...thank God that's almost over). Does it live up to the hype? In short...it's a solid movie....but not the greatest movie ever made. The acting was pretty good, and you can really tell that a lot of thought, time, effort and money went into making this book a realistic world (for the most part). People complain that its slow for the first 40 minutes, but honestly that's called character development. It was laying down the plot, telling us everything we needed to know to comprehend the rest of the movie...and did a nice job of keeping it interesting. As a whole, the movie was well made, the actors did their parts well, and the story was interesting. Also, it did a good job of making us care about the characters, and drawing out certain emotions when necessary. My only complaint is that the camera was way too shakey during action sequences, (almost as if the camera man was trying to survive as well). I'm happy to say that this is a "teenage book franchise based movie" that isn't a pain to watch. Looking forward to the second one.

I had high hopes for this movie because I loved the book so much but I was afraid because usually the book just always outshines the movie. I must say that the movie was amazing and didn't disappoint. The cast is perfect, I do not have one complaint. They only strayed from the book in a few instances but it was ok. I was very impressed with The Hunger Games movie. While there were some things left out and a few liberties taken, the movie stuck closely with the book. To me, that makes a movie even that much better... Especially because I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. For those who haven't read the book, here's your warning... This was the best adaptation of a book to a movie that I have ever seen. I am an avid fan of the books so it really warmed my heart to see it virtually exactly how I pictured everything as I read it. I cant wait to see the rest of the series, I know it will only get better!!

I saw The Hunger Games 2 days after I finished the book. So, it was still fresh. I was wondering how the movie would deal with all of the inner dialogue in the book. I was very impressed with how they pulled off delivering so much of the information. Of course they had to adapt some things to fit in the 2 hrs. 22 min. But I think they did a great job and stuck very close to the story line, that any discrepancies could be enjoyed.

I have not read the book, so my wife and I really didn't know much about it. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! If the book is somewhat like the movie, then I would recommend the movie and the book. I know sometimes the movies changes parts of the book, but from what I have been told by friends who read the book, the movies came real close. Can't wait for the second one to come out already.

Excellent Movie! A very fast 2.5 hours, very true to the book with some very minor variations. Unfortunately, the sequel, Catching Fire, will not be out until Nov 2013.

The novel caused a sensation that crossed the globe. This spawned a widely acclaimed film loved by fans all over the world. It pitted teen against teen in a battle to the death with the government sanctioned games being covered by the media for the entire country to see as a measure to keep the population from rebelling.
That is the premise of the film Battle Royale released in Japan in 2000, as well as The Hunger Games released in 2012.
Both of the films, based on popular novels, have teen angst, puppy love, cruelty, and children chosen by the government against their wills to have their childhood and themselves killed-or-be-killed in the arena. Both have a young woman who stands center stage beside a young man and is the hope of stopping the insanity.
That's where the similarities end.
The Hunger Games focuses on Katniss Everdeen, a hunter from one of the poorer of 12 Districts which make up what remains of the U.S.torn apart by a long and bloody trauma. Called the Panem, the government demands each District hold an annual 'Reaping' of youths ages 12 through 18. One boy and one girl are chosen to be Tributes to the capitol. When her younger sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss volunteers to go in her place.
You can't help but like Katniss. She is solid, level headed, and nonchalantly larcenous. She loves her family, keeping them together through the loss of her father, through her mother mentally checking out after that loss, and helping to raise up her younger sister. She is not beyond her own flaws, but she is determined. She also has a charisma which gives her larceny a rebellious bent that doesn't seem to have an outlet. The Hunger Games change all of that.
Screen adaptations of novels frequently miss the mark. But Suzanne Collins' page-turning novel and the movie dovetail in a beautiful way. The novel is in the first person, giving you what's going on inside Katniss Everdeen's head. But what she can't see in the novel, you don't know. The screenplay, however, makes you a spectator watching The Hunger Games with commentary, more about the Panem dictatorship, without stealing the spotlight from the main story.
The performances never hit a wrong note, and their isn't one mis-cast in the bunch. The veterans and the new faces all combine delightfully. The costumes and make up, as well as the sets and locations, bring to life the bizarre and disparate worlds of the poor Districts' 'country bumpkin' look and the richer Districts' flamboyant and decadent lifestyles, to the arena of the Hunger Games and it's no-nonsense clothing and myriad environs. This makes The Hunger Games a rare film indeed. It will leave you satisfied, while making you want to see what happens next. The Hunger Games gets 5 Mocking Jays out of 5.

I have read the series and loved it. I was worried that the movie would not meet my expectations I was wrong! My husband has not read the books and he really liked the movie as well. The characters were right on, not just a lot of fluff. Its very believable, had us thinking hummm could this happen? Especially since we have a government that wants more and more control all the time. This movie could be a turning point in the way we think now.
