Having finished reading the book a couple of weeks prior to seeing the movie, I anticipated some things would be missing. In this case, though, it wasn't enough to be disappointed. From the get-go, this movie was as intense as I expected. There's even some reference to the Civil Rights Movement (I won't reveal when, but you'll see it). For a movie nearly 2 1/2 hours long, it sure felt like it was barely an hour. Trust me, this movie is definitely worth seeing!

I read the books before I saw the movie. Loved the books, was a bit upset that some parts were left out of the movie, but that didn't take away from the story the movie told. Well done and I can't wait until the next one is out.

it was amazing it kept the people on the edge of your seats. I did not get to read the book but as for the ending i was hoping for other 10 dist to go to war with the 1 and 2 dist for the ending

I'm kind of in the same boat as the reviewer below mine. I've never read the books, but the movie was enjoyable. I didn't understand what the hype was though. So many people recommended but it's like a modern day blade runner (kind of). I know that I'll watch the future sequels, but I can already tell that if I were to watch it again on Blu-ray, I'd be bored of it right away. Wasn't that great, but was definitely entertaining. Still recommend that you see it.

First off, I have not read the books nor will I. I am going to just see the movies so I don;t get upset when they change something. (Which is what happened with the Harry Potter Movies) The problem I had was that this movie had a lot of hype so I came into the theater thinking that this would be a spectacular film. First of all, I enjoyed the film and will probably see future installments, but I could definitely tell this movie was aimed toward female audiences. The love story between Katniss and Peeta seems really corny and is designated toward tween fans, but in its defense it is still way better than the Twilight Sagas love story. Also I was really hoping that the action would be intense and intricately stylized like a Jason Bourne movie. Obviously they are children and not as highly trained as Jason Bourne, but they could have at least made it somewhat stylized. The action was short and not as good as I was expecting so that was a disappointment. Also the shaky camera made it sometimes hard to tell what was going on with some of the fights.I did enjoy the beginning where the contestants all run out and start butchering each other which was more intensified with no sound except for some sep music. This was short lived however. The story is quite good and is very sad at parts and the audience really cares about some of the characters. Jennifer Lawrence is very good and Josh Hutcherson also did very well. Woody Harrelson was my favorite and stole the show for me. All in all if you love the books, go see the movie, If you are a female or a teenager, then go see the movie, If you are expecting a top notch action film however, you should probably pass on this one.

I love Harry Potter & Twilight films some of the films to come from bks before this. Everyone is looking for the next big thing since the Twilight films end this year and Harry Potter ended last year. This movie is based on 1 of 3 young adult books just like those two.
This movie was excellent. I have read all 3 books in the series and this movie was successful even more then Harry Potter and Twilight it felt like I was watching the book on screen. It wasnt as graphic as the books, and they left out a few parts but the movie flowed so well. I would love to see it again. My parents saw it and they are older, and I am not a teen. So I would recommend this movie for ANY age its simply wonderful.
My recommendation is: read the books (all 3!) if you havent but watch the movie first if you havent read the books its better that way. :)

I hardly ever read for enjoyment, don’t have the patient, time or energy so that why I got the audio book :-). As all who have read/listened to the book know the book is fan-freakin-tastic! so needless to say I had higher hopes for the movie. I saw the 12am release which is typically the best, the audience is filled with people who have read the book and are more excited then you are. Anyway to the movie itself. My initial reaction was "they left so much out" I couldn’t help but get caught up in all the little and some big detail that was either omitted to changed. But after processing it I was able to really enjoy the film for what it was and get over my disappoint, I realized the only way they would be able to capture every detail was to make the movie 11 hrs long and umm I don’t think anyone could sit through that. Do I think it could have been better? Without a doubt! Did the film get its point and story across enough? Yea but… over all I liked it, I wish I loved it but I’m eagerly looking forward o the next!

I had not read the book and was not sure if I would like this movie based on the subject matter. I was pleasantly surprised at how it was handled. This movie kept me interested all the way. I do not consider this a "kiddie" movie at all. It has a lot to say and is well worth the trip to the theater!

I loved this book series and was so excited to find out they were making it into a movie. I did have reservations though, since movies made from books usually disappoint me, but I was not disappointed by this movie at all. It showed Katniss' closeness and protectiveness to her sister. It showed how smart and resourseful Peta was. It was an overall great movie. Plan on going to see it again before it leaves theatres.

I do recommend this movie whether or not you have read the Hunger Games trilogy. The movie is well acted and edited. There is somewhat of a disappointment of the movie lacking seemingly important aspects of the book or changing them for the sake of moving the story along. However, if the entire content of the book was portrayed in the movie, it would be 5 hours long. Although I may enjoy it, the typical moviegoer would not.

If you didn't read the books don't go see the movie. You wont understand the plot. As for me, I read all three books and loved them. The characters in the movie where portrait as I pictured but so many important parts where cut out, that it left me disappointed. Like, the developing relationship between Peta and Katniss. I also didn't like the shakiness of the movie in the beginning. It was making me dizzy and nauseous. Overall it was just ok. I still like the books better.

As an avid reader and HUGE fan of this series, I was beyond excited to see this movie. I felt the actors chosen portrayed the characters perfectly. There were several differences between the book & movie, and many items were left out, however, I feel this was a fairly accurate representation. I found the movie kept me on the edge of my seat even though I knew what was going to happen. I absolutely recommend this movie to anyone who likes action filled movies...

I really did not want to see this movie. The books are always better and the movie usually ends up ruining it for me. But how could I NOT go see it, after I LOVED the books so much! So I did, and as expected, I was a little disappointed. The movie was good and probably would be great for someone who did not read the books. The movie changed some things that I felt were important in the book, it skipped things (as expected, I mean, the movie was already 2hrs and 20 min!) and rushed through some of the really good parts of the book. With that being said, it stuck to the book more so than other movies that were based on books, the effects were good, awesome scenery, and a really cool depiction of a story set in the future. As my movie partner for the night said to me, I don't know....I liked it, but it just didn't leave me wanting more! Well said!

I read all 3 books and loved them. I thought the movie did a good job of telling the story even though many characters had to be left out. I would have liked to see more development of the relationship between Katniss and Peta as it seemed too superficial throughout the movie.
Main complaint: Camera movement even made me nauseous in the beginning. Hope to see it toned down for the second movie, which I hope they are making.

Loved the entire book series, felt that the violence was balanced out with the humanity and relationships. The author wanted to make a point about how desensitised we are to violence today and how reality TV are our new stars. There was so much content to include, I understand somethings had to be omitted, although I don't agree with some of the omissions and combining of other parts, some importantant relationships were not fully developed in the film. Overall it was good. If someone didn't read the book, I wonder if they would be a bit lost. Some fun unexpected features were added in too.

Both of my daughters really wanted to see this movie so I caved and went and was so glad I did.

Overall it was a C+ rated film. Acting was good and the movie followed the book pretty well. However a few key scenes from the book were cut too short. The relation with rue n katniss was way too short. The finale was also cut too short. Did not feel satisfied. The chemistry between peeta n katniss did not flow well. Not enough connection between them compared to the book. And finally the horrible camera movement throughout the movie not only makes u dizzy and felt cheap like the fight scenes were being fast forwarded. I really hope they dont do that for the 2nd installment.

The whole story is a bit sick and twisted and not sure what the moral of it is. We are already desensitised to violence but now Kid slaughter movies. I found the movie intense and I watched it with awe but is it healthy? ...not so sure. I would recommend other movies to be entertained by. Yes I read the books as my daughter wanted me too, I have the same thoughts on them.

This movie would have been good if they left out the cussing. They did not have that in the book. These words do not add anything to the movie. There was no reason to have them at all. My family will not see the other movies because they will probably add more cussing than this one had.

as a reader of the book, i was a bit disappointed; but that is to be expected when adapting a book into a movie. (there is only so much you can put in right?) as a stand alone action movie, i really enjoyed it! i would definately recommend. i really like the actors that were chosen to play the specific parts too, i thought they did really well. :)

A cross between The Truman Show (a reality show taking place in a giant TV studio watched by millions) and Gladiator (with the Russell Crowe character played beautifully by Jennifer Lawrence). The star must kill fellow gladiators, many of whom are friends, for the amusement of the ruling class. However, the common masses fall in love with the underdog gladiator which creates problems with the ruling class's hold over the commoners. Perhaps this movie would have been better if Ridley Scott had been the director. Maybe he could have found a camera man with a more steady hand.

My college age son had read the book & wondered how they did the PG 13 rating. Very well is the answer. It was true to the book, romantic, and not so far fetched from where society is headed, with all the "reality" & disrespect for life. Though I covered his eyes for one scene (wasps), it was suitable for even my "tween" grandson. He was inspired that those who cared about others were better off, though he was sad about the ones who said all they'd been taught was to hurt others. An intelligent movie with action that didn't dwell on gore or "gross out".
