I love this movie so much because I got to see it with my best friend! Not only did we fangirl about it for about five months, but we still do. As soon as the Lionsgate logo came on we were engrossed with hot guys, beautiful scenery, and adorable monologues! I laughed, I cried, it moved me! I have been a huge fan of hunger games for years and it will continue for at least for more years <3 I am a Peetaphile and this movie was packed full of action, romance, and a kind of sci-fi./ It made you want to punch something, hug something, and just overall have a good time! I went to see it five times within the first week it came out :D Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be Ever in your favor ! <3

I really liked the movie; however, I enjoyed the book much more. I wish the movie would have incorporated some more details from the book because I think a little of the story was lost. I also didn’t like the shaky camera work and found it making me a little dizzy during parts.

Movie is longer than most....over 2 hours. Story not really believable. Just didn't make alot of sense. Enjoyed seeing Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland....I hope they got paid alot of money. I view this movie as Hollywood's next best answer (sadly) to another painfully long series of teenie-bopper, jit movies in the footsteps of Harry Potter and all it's sequels as well as Twilight and all it's over written sequels. Just more trash to serve as fodder to the youth culture masses calling it entertainment. I think all the above mentioned movies, including Hunger, serve as a poor reflection of this countrys' current youth culture. My advice, wait for it to hit Redbox.

The book is still better (as they usually are) but the movie did a good job of hitting all the major plot points. If you haven't read the book it's still a great movie. If you have, you know it had to leave some things out.

Nice original story. This is a solid movie for the money and is great for all but very small children. There is violence but its not graphic. It's a good movie aimed at tweens and fans of films like Twilight and Harry Potter should like this.

this movie had the potential of being great, great actors, a great book but I didn't enjoy the camerawork, they were trying to give it a documentary feel at times which just confused the viewer. the acting was good but the script was lacking, for those of us that read the book we were expecting more. the actors were spot on, there could have been more special effects and details in the fighting scenes. I did not like the soundtrack at all. big fan of the books and the actors.

I was quite disappointed on how facts from the book were left out or altered. First thing my 10 year old said at the end of the movie was "They left out so much detail." Granted you can't put all details in a movie, but I felt that there many elements missing. For example, when Katniss and Gale were outside the fence, they showed a hovercraft over their heads, but they didn't show the girl who was capture by the hovercraft. Overall, I was disappointed.
My favorite parts of the film were Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz. I really how they protrayed their characters.

I went to see this movie not knowing anything about a book series or much of the story line. While I do find the plot of children being forced to kill one another very disturbing, I felt the way the story was told through the movie itself was quite good. I may be old fashioned, but I would not let a child of mine under 17 or 18 see this.

First I have to ask myself, "Was the movie as good as the book?" Yes and no. But, that is to be expected. the book has the time and space to fully develop all characters and story lines. But, as a film adaptation of the book, they did very, very well. The story itself is horrific, when you consider that The Capitol forces children to fight to the death, in some sick way of paying tribute. But, this is not the first time that this sort of theme has played out in history. Think about the Romans and the Gladiators. Gladiators were slaves who had showed a propensity for violence, or for staying alive at all costs. Often, they fought and killed Christians, and while we can never know for sure, I feel confident that not all the Christians killed were grown men, or men at all. Now, I am not comparing The Hunger Games to documented history, or Pagans vs. Christians. If you want to look at fiction, read Shirley Jones' "The Lottery". Same sort of thing. Read "The Lord Of The Flies" by William Golding. Again, children vs; children. "The Hunger Games" is a violent book. But, as many have said, I can, unfortunately, see something akin to this happening in our future. It only takes one nuclear war and government take-over for society as Americans know it to devolve. However, in the end, this is fiction. It's good fiction, but it is fiction.

I'm not knocking the actors of this movie, they did a great job but the entire concept was horrific. I haven't read the books and nor would I at this point. WHY on earth would anyone want to watch children kill children for a SPORT? There is no "message" here, there is no historical significance (as in a movie about the Holocaust) where we see children die. It should never be acceptable to watch children kill children, we should be calling this movie what it is, terrible. I regret falling for the hype of this crap. Lesson Learned!

I enjoyed the movie, but it really didn't do the books justice. I know that they were limited on time to develop the story, but I feel that their creative license didn't bring out the scope of the tragedy that was the story, how the emotion of being just entertainment for the Capitol, I felt they cut too much of the importance of the story. Also changing who gave Katniss the pin. That was a relationship that meant something in the second book, the Mayor's daughter.

Expectations will do you in every time.
Rotten Tomatoes had an 80% fresh from the critics, 90% fresh from fans, and the buzz we'd heard from friends was also enthusiastic, so we arrived anticipating the best.
I will say that reactions from our party of four were all over the map, with mine being the least positive. When asked by a colleague if it was a "must see" movie, I had to answer "No".
There were plenty of dated parallels HG brought to mind, The Running Man, Logan's Run and Rollerball being a few.
I didn't feel we were seeing anything new, but simply revisiting old tropes with a new (and admittedly talented) set of faces.
If you can do this flick on a bargain basement matinee, go for it. But spending top dollar and dragging the entire family? Not so much.

While the first half built nicely the second half fell into an abysmal, formulaic snoozefest.
Jennifer Lawrence displays her acting chops well in this film, but the rest of the cast is lowered into a shoebox.
The useless Liam Hemsworth struts around like an empty head of hair, Woody Harrelson delivers the weirdo factor like a low budget wizard, and Wes Bentley serves as the charming young wuss... whatever his name is.
Katniss is a well fleshed out, strong female character with a backstory. She eases onto the screen with a sense of ownership and strong female roles are important for girls. Why, then, is it necessary to consistently make the guys look like meat-headed imbeciles?
This one was a big whiff.

Pretty decent movie, but seemed that there were "hunks" chopped from it that would have filled in some blatant inconsistencies that I doubt were in the books and doubt that would have been excluded from filming. I'd look for a DVD release with about 20-30 minutes of additional footage (like every decent Cameron movie (not counting that pathetic Titanic)).

I read all three books in a weekend. I wish that the movie could have been stretched into 4-5 hours, so that more detail from the book could be brought forward for those like my wife that have not read the books. It left alot to interpretation.
Also two major dissimilarities from the book took away from the overall success of the movie!!
Seemed like it was more important to compress the plot for the viewers then it was to convey Suzanne Collins story.

We saw this movie last night and enjoyed it. The man next to me was sniffling into his handkerchief at certain times. I wasn't happy with Harrelson's Haymitch (Haymitch is supposed to be _funny_!) but my husband disagreed.

The movie is a lot better if you readthe book first. A lot of what happens in the story is not conveyed very well in the movie and if you haven't read the book it is more diffcult to understand what is happeing in some of the scenes.

It's worth seeing on the big screen. Acting, cinematography and directing are spot on. The costumes and sets pop and are memorable. My only criticism is the length of the movie. There was certainly 15 minutes in the beginning where they are in the city preparing for the games that could have been edited out. And another 15 minutes during the games in the forest. Whatever happened to 120 minutes!
