Was excited to see that a book can be adapted to the big screen so well. This group of actors really bMBAme the characters. Amazing job! The violence of the story was show perfectly, just enough without becoming too much.

Good adaptation

I was really impressed with this movie. When books are made into movies I am usually disappointed. This was not the case with The Hunger Games. It had just the right mix of storyline from the book and new information. It was a great idea to add scenes from inside of the Capitol. I would defiantly recommend this movie.

A Must See

The movie was very true to the book. The casting was excellent. Jennifer Lawrence gave an amazing performance as Katniss. My only complaint is that there were parts of the book that were big moments to me but seem very small on the big screen like the fire dresses. The ending seemed a little anti climatic for someone who didn't read the books. I can't wait until November 2012 to see the next installment.

It was a really good movie but it wasn't just like the book, the book was better but this shouldn't stop you from going to see it. It's a great movie to even if you haven't read the book. My dad went with me to see it and he loved it! It's a great movie for teens and adults. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Katniss cussed and I didn't approve of that...

As a huge fan of the book, I was disappointed because this movie was clearly created for young children. I know the books were written for teens and young adults but this movie could of been made by Disney. Still I enjoyed it and imagine I would of enjoyed it even more if I had not finished the book just days before. Too bad they cut content, plot, strategy and gruesome kill scenes.

Looking forward to "Catching Fire."

I was concerned about the pin and it not being given to her by Madge, but it worked out and didn't alter the story too much. Casting was great and I wasn't sure if the two male leads were going to work...they did! Loved it...it was dark and it was well acted.

I have not read any of the books and had never even heard of them before the movie came out so I have no background on the movie. Besides the storyline being a bit disturbing, it was a great movie. There were a couple of characters that I wasn't sure of who they were but it didn't make the movie impossible to see and understand. Overall, it is a movie I would recommend to friends.

Sounded good, but couldn't watch it!

As much as I was looking forward to seeing this movie (ever since devouring the books last year), I found myself extremely disappointed. The camera action made me queasy by 5 minutes, and outright nauseated by 20. I spent the rest of the movie looking down at my lap, (leaving the theater twice to recover my equilibrium) trying to interpret the action from the sounds. I am so tired of movie directors using this particular cinematography trick~ jiggly camera, quick pans, extreme close-ups. The only reason I didn't walk out permanently was because I was with others who would have been devastated if we left.

I suppose that I have to give them props for following the book so well. What I did see seemed true to the original story. I think that people who haven't read the books will be disappointed in the hype. But, the people who have read the book will enjoy the movie (if they are physically capable of watching it).

The movie overall was OK. It is not a mid-night premier type. But would be OK to see like on a Saturday afternoon. I thought the movie took a good portion of the book, but lacked the luster the book gave you. I am a Harry Potter/Twilight fan, but this doesn't stand up to those. Sorry.

Good Movie with some Flaws

I had a hard time watching this movie without thinking what was missing from the book. If you haven't read the book then you will absolutely love it. I will definitely go see it again. The movie can definitely only go up fom here and with the hype this one got it definitely will. I hope the shaky filming quits and the main actress doesn't try so had at times. But as long as those get fixe and hopefully a bit more of depth to them the rest of this series will be even better!

Extremely Well Done

You know you are watching a good movie when a PACKED theater, with people of ALL ages are COMPLETELY silent during the entire film. I thought the movie was very well done, doing it's best to include as many details as possible in 2 hours and 22 minutes. The actors portrayed the characters very well, the sets were perfect. The only thing I noticed was that they didn't seem to show just how truly poor Katniss' family really was, and just how starving they were (like by showing her eating all the now available food as though she may never eat again). Not a big deal, just something I noticed. All in all, very well done and I can't wait until Catching Fire.

Great Book Adaptation

I forced myself to open the book up and read it because my 12 year old son was reading and raving about how good the series was. So I started reading and found that I too loved the book. That being said, I was a little leery about how the movie would be since movies are never as good as the book. But in this case, I think they did a pretty good job. No, it is not as good as reading the book but it is almost as good. The characters are believable. You were able to become emotionally involved with them and care about them. I would definitely go see it again or buy the DVD. We loved it!

Once I got past the initial first 15 to 20 minutes of the movies that looked liked it was filmed by the Blair Witch Project people, I loved it! The casting was superb! I also thought they did a fabulous job of toning down the violence...which in the book was extreme. I am an avid reader and am ALWAYS disappointed by movies (aka Harry Potter; Twilight, etc.) after I've read the book(s). However, this one was great. I'll see it again.

The only reason I didn't give The Hunger a 5 star rating is because I mostly just listened to it. The cinematography made me extremely nauseous from the get go. The shots are very close-up, switch scenes constantly, and is shaky. It got so bad for me that I just stopped watching and just listened. I only looked at the screen for the intense or climactic parts. I was still nauseous the next morning! I sure hope they change the cinematography for the 2nd one so I can actually watch it and enjoy it.

Excellent adaption

While I am a very critical person regarding all movie adaptions of books, I personally was not disappointed in the slightest in regards to the Hunger Games. Though they did eliminate many minor characters and adapt the story so that the it was easily understandable to those who had not read the books, it was done in such a way that I did not feel as if I had been ripped off at all. Jennifer Lawrence truly embodied Katniss Everdeen and portrayed the socially awkward yet strong individual that I grew to love in the books perfectly. The movie itself was made very well and I felt that I could really relate to what was going on. Though I know many were upset that minor characters were not put in and certain scenes were taken out, I believe it is important to remember that certain cuts must be made to ensure that the audience is not sitting around for 7 1/2 hours.

Overall, this was a fantastic movie that I will gladly see again.

Hunger Games- Not just in the movies

The Hunger Games provided some interesting parallels with our current society. Misdirecting the masses from the important issues is already in full force today. All one has to do is turn on the nightly news to witness this equivalent of junk food media. That being said, the movie was very entertaining. The cast was strong, the story compelling and the the visuals were stimulating enough to hold my ADD brain's focus. My two boys, ages 12 and 13, rated the Hunger Games a "9" on a scale of 1 to 10.

I came out shocked, not elevated. The actual movie is not very good. The material - kids killing kids - is horrible. I know the real Roman Empire and Nazi Germany were worse, but to realize that these books and this movie are mass-culture makes me shiver, makes me believe that we live in terrible times again. Why, why this?

Well, the reason I gave it 3 stars is because they completely cut off many important scenes & the whole movie felt like if it was going too fast and it was going through a breeze. Yes, I have to admit the director did manage to capture good scenes in the movie but they left out characters like Madge who gave Katniss the mockingjay pin in the book but in the movie Katniss gets the pin for free. Throughout the movie I didn't feel any suspense or thrill as I knew what was going to be expected yet again they left out the important scenes of character development. I was very disappointed when they left out many scenes between Katniss and Peeta because in the movie Peeta has like a minute or so to confess his love to Katniss.I mean one minute Peeta and Katniss shake hands and the other minute they kiss. I think all the actors did do a great job though. In the movie there was little dialogue & personally I would have perferred Katniss to narrate the movie as the book was from her perspective. I would have rather seen a longer movie or parts (1 & 2) that includes the important scenes than a 2 hour and 22 min. movie that quickly breezes through it. I hope that the next movie, Catching Fire, will be better and include the important scenes that does not feel like a rush to get through the end of the movie. Overall I have to say it was an OK.

I really enjoyed the movie. Of course I read the books so I wanted the movie to tell the story as such. I felt that the movie was rushed a little. Trying to fit everything in. I really wish they would have taking more time to make the connections more understandable and not so rushed. But it was enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Better Than Expected

Usually when I watch the movie adaptation of a book I've grown to love, I expect to not really like the movie. However, it was not the case with The Hunger Games. I think the actors all portrayed their characters perfectly and really brought them to life. I also didn't think the plot changes took away from the story. They added their own special touch. Overall, I was incredibly impressed with and moved by the movie.

I have read all three of the books and fell in love with the characters and the relationships they had with each other. I was upset that they didn't spend enough time with katniss and peeta, and katniss and rue. I did love the movie! Don't get me wrong. But I felt that it was rushed, and I don't know about everyone else but I wouldn't mind sitting in a theater for an extra hour :)

GET READY FOR A REVIEW FROM AN INTENSE HUNGER GAMES FAN:

FIRST OFF, there is this shaky camera style used for EVERY fight/action sequence which is the MOST annoying and awful thin about this film, I absolutely hated it. At time I couldn't tell who was fighting who, it was that fast and obnoxious. And yes I know that they couldn't show as much violence as the book, but come on, every death was super quick, super shaky and didn't have the same impact at all as the books did.
I really feel like the brutality of the story was definitely softened for the PG-13 rating which was quite annoying.

The actors were all great, I especially enjoyed Effie and Haymitch, the Capitol looked incredible, truly beautiful sets/costumes and awesome gadgets with a beautiful atmosphere.

Anyway, I noticed a lot of time was spent during the pre-games events, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, everything that was shown I thought needed to be shown, but the actual games seemed really rushed and anticlimactic.

ALL IN ALL it was a good movie, but they messed up, in my opinion, on the impact and emotion of the story. They also relied heavily on people reading the book, because if you didn't you wouldn't have gotten ANY background on characters, or any references, there were a lot of unexplained things in the movie, I'm just saying.

Very good movie considering the content that was covered and the rating. The audience at the midnight show were enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Most audience members had read the books so it is great that young people are reading. My sixth grade students put the books on my wish list last year and encouraged me to read them. They were a great book series to read and the movie was awesome to watch.

First, I just want to say that I have read all three books and enjoyed them, however, the movie was just ok for me. The acting was great but I would have liked to have seen more of the relationship between katniss and Gayle/Peeta. Overall, the movie was good but not great. It just didn't have the same heart as the book and at times, felt rushed.
