Loved it, thought that they did really good job with it. Would have liked to have seen some more details from the book to make the emotions stand out more. Note to parents thinking about taking young children to it, this is not a movie for them. The child on child violence is terrifying.

I've read the books and that's usually a negative because rarely can movies do a good book justice. I think the best way is like Potter 3 - create its own energy. They followed the book but left out its soul. So a lot of the raw emotion and brutality isn't there. I get the need for a PG-13 rating but in the games you don't feel the cold, how absolutely tired and near death Katniss and especially Peeta are at various points. Jennifer Lawrence was fantastic. The kid playing Peeta I think really got it right. And President Snow - pitch perfect. Everyone else was whatever. Again, not bad, just could have been so much better.

My husband and I have anxiously been waiting for this movie since we raced through the trilogy of books the beginning of last summer. Very true to much of the story, though some of the emotional connections and the poverty of District 12 is minimized for time restraints. Genius casting of Jennifer Lawrence. If you have not seen Winter's Bone see it. She plays a character very close to Katniss. I think they missed the mark in casting Liam Hemsworth as Gale and Josh Hutchinson as Peeta. They should have traded those actors parts. Josh Hutchinson's blond dye job faded throughout the movie. Liam Hemsworth has naturallly blonde curly hair, Josh Hutchinson has dark brown hair. Just didn't understand the miscasting there. However, all the acting is great and the story rings true to the book.l For those parents with reservations about letting younger children see the movie. I recommend reading and discussing the books with them to get the message, then see the movie.

I have read the trilogy, so my expectations were low, but hoping for the best. The movie mostly captured the book. It was better than I expected. I was disappointed on how they portrayed Katniss on the train. She seemed in shock and not in controle like she was in the book. I liked that in the book Katniss and Peetah together convinced Haymitch that they were worth training and I wanted to see Katniss display her power from the beginning. With that being said, Haymitch was portrayed very well, I like that he was not as much of a drunk as in the book. I love the part when Katniss was auditioning for the judges. They did a great job with that scene. I also liked that we were given some insight that is not in the book since that book is written first person from Katniss' point of view, because of that, we never got to see what the Gamemaker does. That was a very interesting addition to the story.

I do understand some of the disappointments people have from leaving out powerful points from the book, but I also understand the way that movies and books work are not the same. Books will always be better for the depth they give the characters, and the length is never an issue. With movies is different. I felt they did an excellent job translating the book into a movie, staying true to the plot and the persona of the characters. I extremely enjoyed watching it as an appreciator of books and of movies.

While the movie isn't a word for word adaptation of the book, I never expected it to be. How could it have and still fit within either a single movie and/or been a length that would have kept the modern day stunted attention span?
I felt that I was rewarded for my patience and the film delivered on all counts. With very few exceptions, the acting was spot on (the main characters are not the ones I'm 'complaining' about). I was never in either camp, for or against, for the casting of Katniss for example. I had some minor issues with some of the side characters but they are small and not worth going into any more detail.
The movie is violent but not gory, but that is the nature of the books and the world in which they are set. The movie did an _excellent_ job of portraying the truly SICK environment that the Capitol has created and continues to foster and the excesses and stark contrast between the Districts and the Capital.
I saw the movie on opening day with my daughter and got stuck in the very front row, which made for an interesting viewing experience. The more violent scenes are frantic, hectic, cameraman haydays that are very hard to keep up with from that close to the screen. As such I will be seeing the movie again with my wife and we WILL be getting a seat further back. Even with a seat as close as we had I felt immersed in the movie (no, it wasn't IMAX) and it didn't detract except for the frantic scenes.
This movie is mature, however, and I would NOT suggest taking younger children to it. The violence is one thing but I think it's more about needing to have the emotional maturity to get everything out of the movie that you can. It's not that 'The Hunger Games' isn't _just_ an action movie or an adventure movie...it isn't an action movie OR an adventure movie. The books weren't written as either of those things primarily...or at least I didn't take them that way and neither did most of the people (teens included) that I know. The books tackle issues, as the author herself has mentioned, such as severe poverty, starvation, oppression, and the effects of war among others and the struggle for self-preservation...action and adventure are side-notes and make a good movie.
All-in-all, an excellent movie that I will be seeing again and plan to purchase when it is available on Blu-Ray.

I felt the movie was excellent and the acting was excellent. As difficult as it is to capture a book into a movie, I felt the selected segments were done well. The idea of kids killing kids is very much of a disturbing subject but the author and the movie did an excellent job to portray 'survival' adrenalin instead of rage. These kids were scared and that was well sensed.

I went with a few friends and my two little sisters (9 and 11) to see this movie, and it's safe to say that we were brought unanimous satisfaction. Not only was the movie action-packed, as one would assume, but it was heartbreaking, funny, and legendary.
One thing that we all agreed on was that it certainly paid off to read the book first. There were at least ten moments in the movie that--had we not read the book--we wouldn't have grasped the full meaning of. Some of it, actually, we wouldn't have understood at all!
This is a MUST-SEE, but, even more so, it's a MUST-READ.

I am an adult fan of the books and now the movie. They kept true to the story. Yes it doesn't include absolutely everything about the book, but how can it? You can't turn a book into a 2 hour movie, so they pick the important parts of the stories and leave out some of the fluff. What they did include was exactly as the book was written. I LOVED IT!!! I've never been as big a fan of any other series as I am The Hunger Games. It has a realistic feel, you become part of the movie, the same as you do in the book. I can't say it enough I LOVED IT! I'm going to see it a second time this weekend (and I never do that!)

The movie itself wasn't terrible. Kind of cheesy and they cut out many of the most emotionally charged moments from the book: Katniss almost dying of thirst, the mutt tearing into Peeta's leg, Peeta never finding out that the whole star crossed lovers thing was an act. All in all the movie was average, all I can say is I hope they do a better job on Catching Fire.

I never go to the theatre. But the hype got me. I started reading the book, went to the movie opening day, and LOVED it. Took two 13 year olds with me (my grandson and niece) and it was a hit all around, for young and old, boys and girls.

The movie was very good though it did have some minor changes from the book that I believe could have been differently. The acting was very good and each actor/actress fit perfectly for what I imagined them in the book. The score of the movie was also very good as well as some of the special effects I was worried would not live up to my expectations. Overall the only issue I had was a few changes from the book, but other than that excellent movie.

While being an avid teen reader of this series (ive read them all 7 times) I loved the violence in the books and didnt think they totally encaptured all that was in the book. i think they skipped some crucial lines and moments in the book. Granted, the movie may have then been 3 1/2 hours long, but it would be worth it. I still loved the movie, i cried 3 separate times, but the casting was excellent and they couldnt have done a better job encapturing the oppressive nature of the Capitol and the struggles Katniss and the rest of the tributes had to work against. all i would say would be that some of the more important parts were rushed.

After reading the first two books in the series, I went to see the first movie. I thought Jennifer Lawrence was a great fit for Katniss. And the Effie character was just like the book version! The relationship between Cinna and Katniss was very real in the few scenes that focused on just them. Great screen writing! I look forward to the second movie in this trilogy.

At first, I was leery about seeing this movie because of all the commercial hype. However, I was thoroughly captivated for the entire movie.
The story line was great, the content was appropriate, and there was a lot of action. The costumes and makeup were bright and colorful and the character development was strong. The dialogue for the secondary character was a little shallow at times, but the rest of the content was very good overall.
I am definitely getting this movie when it comes out on DVD, and I have already recommended my friends and family to see this movie.

This movie was amazing. It was intriguing and romantic. I wish there had been a bit more of them in the games though; it took forever to get there. Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss, has gorgeous eyes, and Josh Hucherson's (Peeta's) just made me melt. I found only three problems throughout the entire movie, and for a movie based on a book, that's really good. First and second, there was no one playing Madge in the movie, and she is who gives Katniss the pin. In the movie, the pin goes from an old lady to Katniss to Primrose and back to Katniss. That isn't what happened. Lastly, the camerawork gave me a headache. It was jumpy and didn't focus on the actors faces, and was way too close. On a lighter note, the makeup was fantastic, especially Peeta's camouflage and the wounds. Overall, I loved it!

I never read the books, so I can't be disappointed that my favorite moment was left out, that's always a problem with adapted material. This is a beautiful, superbly acted film that is a joy to watch and experience. I really enjoyed it. I do however have to mention that it is such an homage to Battle Royale, that it runs very close to being called an all out rip-off. My only problem with the picture is so much time is spent on the set up for the games and the world of the movie, that I don't really get attached or care about the other players in the game other than the two leads and Rue. This is something that could have easily been handled by cutting down in certain areas, thereby leaving time to get to know the other contestants better, making them less "cardboard" characters.

I have read all 3 books in The Hunger Games series & appreciated the translation of the first book to this movie. I realize certain things had to be left out in order to maintain the flow of the movie and I loved how the games were portrayed. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson did a wonderful job portraying the horror and empathy their characters felt during the games. I will most likely go see it again!

All in all the screenplay was adapted quite well. The movie left out some character development, but that's the problem with almost any great book that's made into a movie...just not enough time. At first I was leary of some of the casting choices, but all the actors did an outstanding job. Jennifer Lawrence deserves an award for how she portrayed Katniss. Can't wait for the sequel!

I went in to watch the movie knowing that movies are never as good as the books because of the lack of time, they never fully include all the details. They put enough detail into the movie that someone who has not read the book would be able to follow along with the story and really grasp the depth of what is happening. For someone who has read the books, they were able to keep enough of the story to leave you satisfied and not like you were somehow cheated. They did definitely change some things and I wish to a degree they could have gone further into depth but when the movie is already 2.5 hours you can't really do that. As someone who has read the books, I enjoyed the movie. My dad who went with me and has not read the books also enjoyed it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
