I thought the movie itself was great and I recommend anyone to see it. My only criticism is that it seemed like they tried to cram so much into the movie that there wasn't enough character development and detail in each scene. It's such a great story and I'm excited to see the next movies.

Had I not read the book, I might have enjoyed The Hunger Games. However, since I read the book and loved it, I was sorely disappointed in the movie. There are some key things that took away from the movie: the conversations between the Head Gamemaker and President Snow, the fact that the mutations did not have the faces of the fallen tributes, the notes from Haymitch in the gifts sent by the sponsors, Catniss and Peeta not getting a chance to put the berries in their mouths.
While I understand that books are usually better than the movie, I have never felt this sense of loss after watching a movie that I feel with The Hunger Games.
While I would recommend the movie to a friend, I would recommend it to someone who has not read the book.

I had not read the books so this was all new to me. I liked the movie very much and followed the story easily. I did find the camera work to be anoying. All the jumping around and unsteady camerwork caused me and several others around us to close our eyes to help somewhat with the dizziness and uneasyness we were feeling. I would hope the producer didn't mean this to happen....making viewers turn away or close there eyes instead of watching is usually not something a movie maker works for.
Non the less, it was entertaining and I would recomend it to anyone.

This book was so amazing that any movie was going to have a tough time living up to it. Still, they did a decent job. 11 of us went - we all liked it - no one LOVED it. We all gave it mostly 6s and 7s (out of 10) Well acted (except Woody Harrelson). Well paced. Did not glorify the violence but also glossed over the true hardship of the games and life in the districts. Everyone looked pretty well fed to me in the Hunger Games!

This movie was great! I am always leary of books-to-movies if I have read the books, but this one was spot on. There were only a few things I could immediately say were left out, and thus far they have not impacted the storyline of the movies.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that the way a lot of the scenes were shot made me sick to my stomach and very glad I didn't see it in 3D. If you suffer from motion sickness, be prepared to look away a lot. Some of the actions scenes made me feel ripped off because all I could see was a blur.

I am definitely going to see this movie again. No disappointment from book to screen. Even though I have read the book several times, the movie had me on the edge of my seat. It was captivating and, even with the theater at capacity, the audience was the quietest I have ever experienced. Everyone was mesmerized by the movie. The set design was spot on and the casting couldn't have been more perfect!!

Considering I haven't read the books yet and really had no idea what to expect, this movie and all the hype surrounding delivered for sure! The ONLY problem I had was following who was who, other than the main 2 characters Katniss and Peeta. Plot was great and easy to follow, costumes were great, acting was great..just an amazing movie! Don't want to give anything else away other than that, but a definite MUST SEE!

This film is marred by over-reliance on handheld camera and a dearth of any new ideas. While the target audience of tweens and teens will love it, anyone out of high school should by now realize that this has all been done before, and better. The story is basically a blend of "1984," "The Lottery" and "The Most Dangerous Game," with only the randomness of contestant selection to distinguish it from such other derivative fare as "The Running Man." But it is the randomness which robs the premise of its credibility. The battle-to-the-death among 24 hapless innocents is supposed to be a way of "keeping down" the populace; however, it is the perception (correct or not) of arbitrariness and capriciousness in a government's treatment of its citizenry which has historically been a sure-fire catalyst of populist uprisings. A scheme of trumped up convictions through show trials, followed by games involving the convicted, would have made for a more believable vehicle of effective governmental oppression. The one intriguing hook, mentioned in passing, is that in "The Hunger Games," the more "goodies" one takes from the government, the more entries one's name has in the contestant lottery - a pretty sly commentary on freedoms inevitably sacrificed to a nanny state.
As for the technical aspects of the film, the camera was needlessly shaky throughout. While this was a useful technique to muffle the disturbing images of innocent teenagers killing each other, it was annoying in all other contexts. The actors were all good, but poor Josh Hutcherson's Peeta was written as one of the wimpiest "heroes" in film history. Was there supposed to be chemistry between him and Katniss, or was it supposed to be just an act on her part? If the former, the filmmakers failed miserably in making that part of the movie convincing even as fantasy.
Overall, the younger set will love it, but sentient adults will have seen it all before, and better.

Usually when I read a great book and see the movie, there is disappointment. Not in this case, all my hopes of seeing Katniss come to life on screen come true. All the scenes I wondered if the cut or play down to save time were not. Go see it don't hesitate.

It seems everyone really liked it. I however, was left a tad cold. The book engages you to such an extent and includes you in every step of the Hunger Game process and the movie just couldn't do that. I didn't especially love Peeta, which is a shame. I thought the actor played him a bit weaker and not as selfless or noble as he is in the books. Although, I think if I didn't read the book, I would have liked it better. It's well made, visually good, and Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, and Stanley Tucci are perfect.I think getting the movie watcher to understand and feel everything that you do when your reading the book would have admittedly been hard, but could have been done more effectively. I felt like it didn't connect the dots in all the right places, but I still really enjoyed it. The teens in the theatre thought it was the best movie ever.

Going into this movie after reading the books we were prepared for things to be different or missing. Although this was the case, it did not impact the integrity of the story. However, there were parts of the movie that the camerawork was so shaky I got dizzy watching it and had to look away. This was meant for affect and instead brought the movie down on the rating scale for me.

I've read all the books and loved them so I was really worried that the movie would leave out lots of important things, as so many books to movies do and essentially lose the story, but I was really surprised. With all of the hype, I was looking forward to this movie. It was okay ... but I wasn't WOWed by the movie. The acting and casting was well done. I'm not a big fan of the "shaky-cam" ... I think the viewer misses details and you take the chance of sending someone into an epileptic convulsion when a director chooses that style. Not a fan.
Then there is the issue that a packed movie theatre is full of young children thrilled at the fact that children on screen are violent killers in a very class separated society. More left leaning brain-washing so we can get closer to that in our own world.
Maybe the books were better ... some things require your imagination.

This is a terrific film and highly entertaining. The hand held camera work is annoying at first but you quickly adapt to it. Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding as is the rest of the cast. The "Gale" character is a small role in this film but you will see much more of him in later films. Rumor is the other two books will be made into three films.
The "kids killing kids" issue is handled well without being overly gory or off-putting.

Powerful protagonists, spot-on casting, dizzying shots of a futuristic dystopia where a fiendish government control device, "Hunger Games," blows up in the face of the Capitol (President Snow played by Donald Sutherland -- brilliant!) because of one very gutsy, very scared heroine. . .yup, it works. We just weren't crazy about the hand held camerawork during the chases and the overall blurring effects (used to gain a PG rating, no doubt). . . but the 4 stars I gave go for basic premise, characters, casting, and story arc. Soundtrack was also fitting and how can you go wrong with T-Bone Burnett?! (The 5th star would be for cinematography and camerawork, which I think it lacked on a technical level.) It really helps that Katniss in the book and the movie is a tough heroic tomboy (based on mythological Diana, the virgin-archer goddess of the hunt -- and I could see a little Joan of Arc thrown in, minus the religious fervor & mission). The use of tight close-ups in the movie overall gives the film a feeling of claustrophobia. . . so the watchers have a similar feeling of being trapped like the citizens of Panem. . . would have liked to be shown more of how and why the people were hungry, in and out of the games. The movie was definitely food for thought *-) Thank you, Suzanne Collins -- the Hunger Games book trilogy is very well done indeed!

My son and I read all 3 books and have been looking forward to seeing the movie for months. They did a great job translating it to the big screen. I was as tense during the movie as I was reading the book. Jennifer Lawrence was wonderful (as she was in Winter's Bone), the supporting actors as well and the sets/costumes were amazing. Only complaint was the shaky camera technique they used for certain scenes. I know why they did it (good effect) but it made me dizzy!

This movie was fantastic. The actors did an awesome job portraying the characters. The costumes were phenemonal. There were few parts that were different from the book, but overall the movie followed exactly like the book. I didn't want the movie to end and I can't wait to see Catching Fire when it comes out.

I can't say enough good things about this movie. It was perfect: The casting, the set, the overall mood, EVERYTHING! The movie brought out the same feelings that I felt while reading the book. The only complaint I have (and it's not really a complaint) is that I wish it was longer. I didn't want it to end! I can't wait to hopefully see the next one:)

Everyone did an awesome job in this movie.The costumes and makeup was amazing. The intense feelings of Katniss and famiy members was amazing. I found myself wanting to see the "snotty kids" get theirs for ganging up to try and get rid of Katniss' and use Peeta to do so. cant wait for books 2 and 3 to come to life.

Went to this movie with a large group ages,from 12 to 60's. Everyone agreed that it was a very good movie. Some had read the book and others had not. Even the 'had nots' were able to follow and enjoy this movie. The filmmakers took liberties when necessary to save time, but still stayed true to the story. Can't wait till the next installment! Hunger Games was such a good book, I was afraid it wouldn't transfer to film very well. Boy was I surprised! Not only does it follow the book extremely well, but to see it come to life was very intense. I sat on the edge of my seat through the entire movie and I have never heard an audience be so quiet. It was such a great experience, I am looking forward to the next installment and now want to read the books again. Any movie that does that gets 5 stars from me. I would highly recommend this movie!
