I read this book and was expecting a terrible movie version (after sseing harry potter and twilight...) but i was completely happy with how this was made into a film! all the characters were great and all the important parts were there! i saw it with someone who didnt even read the book and he looved the movie!! i would highly recommend this movie to everyone! very enjoyable

I have read the books and I knew the movie would not be close but I wanted to see what they could do with it. The movie did a poor job of building the plot, jumping from scene to scene without a foundation. The scenes were choppy and the plot lacked support and movement.
I was excited to watch the scene with the Tracker Jackers, expecting them to be very large, angry and ferocious, but they were like ants. You don't see them sting her, you don't see the swelling, you don't see the pustules burst, you don't see anything! They should have just left out the scene and saved the 2 minutes they poorly devoted to it.
The detail of the books were exciting and edgy, but the film is found wanting. This could have been a good film if they wrote it for NC-17 instead of the Disney-Tone. Maybe even spread The Hunger Games over 2 or 3 films instead of trying to cram it into one.
I won't be recommending this film to anyone, instead, I'll tell them to get the book.

The movie was great. They missed some small details and skipped parts that were important to my enjoyment and understanding of the book, but overall they did well enough for the sake of the movie. For example, Thresh was my favorite character of the first book but it was nearly impossible to portray his importance on screen as most of it was Katniss' thoughts and interpretations.
Also, some scenes are really cheesy in terms of special effects. For example, the capitol scenes with large crowds didn't seem relatively realtistic (I understand this is sci-fi but you could clearly notice computer graphic alterations)
Overall, the movie had a solid pace and focused on what is really important throughout the first book, Katniss. Jennifer Lawrence does a superb job playing the teen heroine and brought a lot of substance to a movie that could have easily fell into disaster. In the end the movie shined through for the fact that it didn't offset reader's of the book such as me and my girlfriend (Ages 28 and 25) and provided enjoyment for those who weren't familiar with the story at all (My older sister who attended the film with me Aged 30)

I recently read the first two books and was not disappointed. I thought they adapted the book well. I was glad they did not dwell on the gore and kept true to the books most important themes. Loved the casting! Can't wait for the next.

I loved this movie! I have read and really enjoyed all of the books. I was a little concerned that the film would not live up to the book, but it was excellent! I went with my husband to see it again just yesterday to get a perspective of someone who has not read any of the books, and he really enjoyed it too!

The movie was pretty true to the book. The experience is better if you've read the book, but can be thoroughly enjoyed even if you haven't. The movie kept my interest from the opening scene through to the end. It's been a long time since I've been at a movie where I didn't get somewhat antsy.This movie fully engages you. Perfect escape! Not to be missed.

The movie was amazing. Obviously some aspects of the book had to be left out, due to time constraints. I thought they did an excellent job with the details that were included and kept the story line spot on. I would highly recomend this movie as a must see.

My son and I absolutely loved the book. He was excited and pleased with the movie; however, I felt some of the most important parts were not covered enough in depth or even at all.
There should have been more on the "romance" of Katniss and Peeta as portrayed in the book. The scenes trying to hit the mood were disappointing.
Overall, I liked the movie but was expecting much more.

I'm one of the rare people who haven't read the Hunger Games series books yet, but the movie was incredible....and I'll be reading them soon! The casting was fantastic and I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. I jumped and gasped aloud a couple times. I can't wait for the books and the other movies to come out. ONE NOTE: I saw very young children in the theater who, I believe, were way too young to see a movie about kids killing other kids!!

I'll admit, at first I doubted the Hunger Games movie would do the book any justice, but when I finally went, it actually turned out to be great! The movie matched the book almost perfectly. You will definitely see me watching Hunger Games in the movie theater again!!!

A faithful adaptation to the The Hunger Games Trilogy. Fast moving, detailed, and rich cinematically. Hardcore fans of the trilogy might grumble at some of the missing pieces of intel that enriches the psychological torture of the Capitol over the Districts and the Tributes. The movie version compensates for these lacking nuances by including scene flashes into the districts that are not addressed until the second book, Catching Fire. District 12 was visually stunning in its poverty, while the Capitol scenes, although decadant compared to the Districts, seemed to lack some of the wonder and extravagencies as detailed in the book.
A good/great book to movie translation for the literary fans and accessible to the non-initiated movie goer.

The movie was excellent, I've read all three books and I felt that this was one movie which stuck to the book with very minor changes. I understood some of the changes was to allow those who have not read the book to be able to follow along. Either way it did not leave me wishing that the movie stayed true to the book, because it did. I hope that there will be a part II and III of course following book II and III. If they stick with the same director, I believe we have a chance for some great films. If you haven't seen the movie, please go take your teenagers they will love it. I know my nephew (age 16) did, he also read the books.

Usually, I find myself quite disappointed with movies that are based upon books I have read, but I thought this movie was very well done. Of course, there were parts of the book that would have been nice to have been explored in the movie, I realize that to have every detail is not possible and was satisfied with those details that were focused upon and also thought the characters were well chosen.

A good movie that is part of a series must grab the viewer at the get go, but should leave them eager to see the sequels. HG did this well. Too much is being made of lack of background knowledge, but if one read the trilogy, one knows that knowledge of the revolt and the other districts unfolds throughout the series. I think they did a good job with the violence with the choppy film technique. You know something bad happened, but were spared the gore. This was essential to preserve the PG-13 rating. Think they did a great job showing the vacuousness of the Capitol Residents. It is a great slam on "reality tv" and the mindless viewers who don't live a real life but who glue themselves to TV to watch losers, dancers, Kardashians. Well done and can't wait for the other films.

I loved the movie and the action. I gave it a 4 because there were several plot lines left out of the movie that I think would have made it a 5. Overall one of the better adaptations of a book to movie. I enjoyed every minute.

I saw this movie on Saturday and was a little disappointed. I am a fan of the books and the build up was so big that I expected more. The journey into the games just took way too long and then the games themselves went by too fast. All fans will want to see it and most really like it. My husband did not read the books and was very bored. I wasn't bored--I just wished they had spent more time at the games.

Having read the book and falling completely in love with it, I was wary when I heard they were adapting the series into films. But I have to say, the Hunger Games did not disappoint. The characters were beautifully cast and Gary Ross did an amazing job directing. I let out a breath of relief when I found out that Suzanne Collins was helping to right the screenplay. I could definitely see her handy work in the little details that are present in the movie. They definitely do a good job setting up clues for Catching Fire. I loved that they added the scenes with President Snow and Seneca Crane, giving the movie details and depth to help those who haven't read the books. It really is one of the best book to film adaptations I've seen! Everyone really needs to go see this movie!

The book was much better, some of the details from the book were left out that probably should have been in the movie but overall it was a very good movie. Even though my grandson and I have read the book and in the episode with Rue, he cried like a baby. He's 11 and I teared up. Great read, good movie.

Reading the series now. The movie was very good but could've been better had they kept to more details of the storylines and descriptive words, thoughts, and visuals of what the book told us and showed us in our mind's eye. The sentiments werpretty much the same from a circle of friends who've seen it as well.
Overall, we gave it a 4.5, and it would've been a 5+ had they portrayed more of the plots and actual events w/in the storyline. We're looking forward to the next of the movie versions of the trilogies, and we plan to buy the movie trilogy one day.

This movie is about love and war. There's a love triangle similar to the one that drove the Twilight movies between a young woman and two young boys. Their love develops as the games progress, only to become the centerpiece of the story. This is, first and foremost, a love story. It's true that there's plenty of action and it plays fairly well, but this is the type of movie that get young girls to scream in the theater. If you're annoyed by that, refrain from seeing this movie in the theater. It is, however, the new "it" thing in movies and there are surely to be at least two more movies to round off the trilogy. As it happens, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world because this is rich material and this first installment had great moments. Go and see it, just understand the caveats mentioned above.

You must read the book to get the best out of this movie. The movie is really good and only a few things were left out from the books. But in the books you get the whole story..Kattness's thoughts!! The actors were amazing in the small details..looks that spoke lines..etc. They MUST make the next two books into movies and the same actors MUST play them.
