Some of the storyline stretched credulity; however, I was surprised at the end that I could say I actually enjoyed myself. I had been expecting less after my daughter posted on Facebook that the movie was "too slow." I thought it moved along nicely. It was worth the price of the ticket. I don't know if I would say the same if I hadn't seen the 3-D version.

I have seen this in 2D and RealD 3D. I have seen all the other Alien movies multiple times - I really like this type of movie when it is quality. I see the specific aspects and styles of each quite clearly. This movie was extremely well done. A prequel allows a certain amount of gratuitious story alignment and design, but I think this was very well integrated, and yet brings a new line to the story. It can itself go into sequels that will not belie the other story lines. It also brings some depth to the search for the meaning of life, which I am not so interested in, but movies the logic and stream of the story line.
As for the more mundane, In 2D in a Sony 4k projection the imagery was as good as I could imagine. Crisp clean, bright when needed, dark when needed. I thought the lighting of the helmets was particularly effective, and special effects were rational. In fact one thing I will say is there was a reality in the stunts. When a human gets thrown across a space and into something hard, or hit really hard. They get injured or die. A lot of movies can't get that fundamental reality check. Anyway, I think this is a great movie, And it will stand as such for a long time. I hope for the sequel and would love to see it go further.

This is an excellent science fiction movie. While less scary than Alien, it was just as fast-paced and thrilling from start to finish. Noomi Rapace was awesome as was the rest of the cast. My only critique of the movie was the lack of character development for some of the protagonists.

The movie, as a modern sci fi type, was fairly good. Special effects, set design, and premise were great. But I do not think the movie deserves all the hype its getting.
It tends to leave more questions than answers, has poor character development and makes leaps and bounds without any cohesive connection.
One scene, one of the characters tries to make conversation and is told, "Im here to keep you safe, not to make friends" .... then, suddenly, the guy who would be assumed to be a security team member, suddenly freaks out at the sight of an alien corps, and then he becomes a geologist. The fact that he acts like some hard tough guy, then some panty wetting jelly back is a leap I failed to understand. Then the "geologist" along with his partner are headed back to a ship and get lost... really?? Lost in a round room???
The second guy with the geologist, who is "freaked out" by the sight of the dead alien corps, suddenly gets balls and talks sweet to an alien worm. The two don't really mesh well. Freaked out by something dead, and then attempting to pet an alien worm. No precaution or conception of danger by this guy toward a living alien species. He tries to pet it.
Why does it just happen to be the Captain gets to have sex with the ONE Ice Queen on the ship???
What happened to the other two pilots, very little development with their characters. And at the end, if you're going to drive your ship into a head on collision into a much larger ship, why does it take 3 guys to do it?? Even the worst driver in the world can drive a car into a barn.
I think those critiques out there who do this for a living, need to stop drinking the koolaid and actually critique the movie on the merits, it was a cool concept, but actually fell flat..... leaving more questions than any sort of answers.

As a 9th Grader, we walked to the local Dome theater and saw 2001: A Space Odyssey. We were amazed by the story, uplifted by the special effects and challenged by the lack of straightforward narration.
Considerably older now, those elements aren't enough to uplift me. I was looking for an Aliens franchise move, which isn't Ridley Scott's issue but mine. I was willing to be enthralled in wonder about the issues raised (which, after all, form the rudiments of Scientology's worldview). This film can't soar however, locked in its cynical view of humans. Nor does it scare with aliens that can only muster contempt for us.
If you're up for visual elements of scenery and art direction, see the movie. If you want to be involved epathetically, miss it.

If the hype hadn't been so excessive this would have been another summer sic-fi movie with sound acting, good sets and effects, and some silly religiosity and philosophy. I thought that Alien being a great movie and Ridley Scott being a great director would ensure a higher level of pleasure and story-telling. Writers and directors, and stars, ultimately seem to get so overwhelmed with fame, fortune and fans, that they believe they are on the earth for a higher purpose, to explore deeper questions. This had the depth of a freshmen philosophy course, and tried to deal with so many subjects, characters and plots that nothing ever truly developed. Yes, there were some thrills, but the movie itself is surprisingly dull, It never developed the kind of simple, straightforward momentum that Alien enjoyed. And if it did start, it got derailed with an actor so badly made up to look old that he was distracting, and occasional religious symbolism (feet washing, really?), and some truly silly dialogue. Having said all that, forget the hype, lower your expectations, pay the 2D price and have an okay 2 hours.

The story development prior to leaving for the planet could have been expanded, esp. the story of Prometheus.
If you like action, gore and predictable plots--see it. The 3D was pretty good, but I would have been OK with regular flick.

It may not be ALIEN, but it's certainly a well-made film - intriguing, exciting, scary, entertaining. Ridley Scott has done a masterful job.
I liked the cast a lot and thought the concept was especially good. Maybe it's not as unbelievably horrific as ALIEN, but it is tense and scary enough to excite and frighten the viewer. It could be a bit shorter, but overall I had a great time. I really, really enjoyed the film.

Just saw Prometheus, it was good. It explained what happened before the Alien movie and how the Aliens came to be and what they looked like in the beginning. Rating the movie R was a huge stretch. More like a PG-13 it had no nudity what so ever and barely any foul language which was good because my son was with me. It was also kept at a slow pace, more of a explanatory film rather than an action or thriller sci-fi, so the younger crowd where disappointed. Very little action but it was good over all if you know about the Alien movies. But not worth the 3D price, as a matter a fact, it didn't really have anything 3D about it. It also open the door for another chapter in the Alien series and I'm happy about that. Overall the movie is a good rental but not an action packed film worth paying full cinema price. But worth it at the $5 Tuesday special the cinemas over have.

The movie was terrific. The cast was really great and the story was interesting. I enjoyed watching how the alens came about but the humans were searching for answers of why the aliens did not kill them in the past. Wow!!! So Mind~Curious. The different scenes with the cast encountering life threating situations was an edge of your seat thriller. The movie overall was an AA++...

While technically not a prequel, Premetheus does take place quite a bit before the original Alien. Without divulging too much of the plot, suffice it to say that many questions will be answered by this movie. Some of those answers are pretty surprising. This movie is much more sci-fi than horror, although there are some gory bits. It is not as scary as Alien, but there are some "edge of your seat" moments. The special effects and cinematography were outstanding, but I expect that from modern sci-fi movies. The acting was superb, especially Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Both were extremely believable and the rest of the cast performed well also. What I wasn't expecting was just how philosophical and thought-provoking this movie would be, but that was a huge bonus in my opinion. While Prometheus didn't feel fast-paced, when it ended I didn't feel like over 2 hours had gone by. The only complaint I have is that I think the 3D could have been better utilized.

The latest trend in Hollywood is "origin stories" and Prometheus does a fine job revealng "just enough" how H.R. Giger's Alien creatures came to be and just who created them. The "why?" humans and Alien creatures were created can also be seen as ambiguous, yet leaves room for another potential sequel. It's a cautionary tale that reminds us to "be careful what you ask for" scenario. It seems, in my view with regards to this story, that this super race of ET's created humans in their image with their DNA and further created the Alien creatures to destroy those human life forms and others, which aren't as perfect as they'd like them to be in the eyes of this super race of humans. You can even look at the Alien creature now as "a planet cleaner & people exterminator" whose purpose is to wipe out all life forms on any planet, so that another batch of humans can be created/planted all over again to retry this experiment whenever these beings are in the mood. It's a metaphor for our times concerning population control via whatever means a power structure might need to put forth a dysfunctional agenda with regards to disposing of people through environmental means, war, biological weapons, nuclear power, and more. This is also a unique science fiction story that pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock much like the orignal Alien movie did as well as James Camerons' "Aliens", which paid yet another indirect tribute to Hitchcock. One of the things that is supremely impressive is how from the original Alien movie we find out the role of "the space jockey" and just how that huge cockpit/telescope chair works when one of the E.T. 's is found to be still alive, who shows us what this phallic-looking machine does when it's used to power up the spaceship which is functional and one of many ET spaceships lying underneath those numerous pyramid-like structures, that is brought back from the original Alien movie helping to tell the story. Given that, just jump on the ride Prometheus provides and enjoy the film~!

I was very excited to see this film after having seen the preview several times, but, I felt that the preview was better than the movie in the end. Visually, it is pretty spectacular and the film did keep my interest (because I thought the setup of the story was intriguing) but, ultimately, I found the overall storyline predictable and disappointing.

The movie was pretty much horrible, I didn't understand the point of the movie. Okay so these people went to find who they believed was their creator who lived on another planet out of space. But once they get there, they still do not get the answer, so the point of the movie was........................................... I don't know, and the ending was wack. I think that some of the parts of the movie were taken from the movie ALIEN

Whether they're saying it's a prequel or not, this movie is NOT of "Alien" caliber. Ridley is still a very deft director, and the 3D is fabulous. But the plot points and story line is full of holes, and it will not hold up to the perfection of Alien, and certainly on par with the brilliant screenplay that James Cameron wrote for Aliens. Charleze Theron, though a wonderful actress, and beautiful to look at, was a pointless character throughout.

Great visual effects. The crew was made up of well known characters in these types of movies. The hero or heroine in this case was strong independent and courageous. The story left unanswered questions and moved very quickly at the end. As much as you must suspend belief to enjoy a movie like this, there were still situations that were not believable or did not flow. After the heroine performs a cesarean section on herself she still manages to fight off aliens and perform daring feats of physical endurance. Noomi Repace in my opinion tried too hard and many of her scenes seemed forced. I liked her in "Dragon Tattoo" but she did not fit this part well. Overall a good movie but I expected more.

Prometheus is a modern-day knock-off of Ridley Scott's original "Alien" film series and therefore the events in the film are predictable. Some dark-side android on board the ship, same ominous vessels spawning deadly organisms, some lone female survivor at the end...boring.

Good movie and all, I don't recall the story line behind the movie's surprise all though it was as big as it was, did find myself lost in the story line a few times, overall I enjoyed it but felt I was cheated out of the 3D effects by the camera work.

In mythology Prometheus brought fire to mankind and was punished by the gods. Ridley Scott seems to have wanted to tell the back story behind his 30 year ago film Alien, and tell us a tale of how humankind was descended from a mother race of aliens. Yet his script asks far more questions than it answers. In fact, the story has so many holes on so many levels, that you will probably need to see it several times just to be able to "get" what he is saying... maybe. You walk away with the same feeling you get when you are watching the type of horror movie where you want to yell at the characters on screen for walking right into a trap that should be obvious. Scott has some very interesting concepts that could easily have been developed in a more succinct manner. Instead it feels clumsy, illogical, and somewhat predictable. Yet having prefaced with all of this, it is still a Ridley Scott film and worth seeing, as he is still a master of his craft. This is clearly not of the same level as was Blade Runner.or Alien. But it does give you insight into what his vision was when he made Alien and who the people were who flew in the spacecraft that they first found. See it for this, but don't expect a classic.

Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are great. The actors as an ensemble really do a fantastic job with this. Great science fiction as it should be. Good story behind it. Fassbinder plays his role with a sense of humor and Guy Pierce is almost invisible in his role. C. Theron has icy down and she does a great job with her character. The design and overall look and feel of the film is a tribute to H. G. Giger and his art. Very well done and go see it!

You can view this a prequel, in which case you might be disappointed that it does not fit the story line exactly. Or you can view it as a movie in its own right, in which case you might think it's entertaining, but not memorable.I've seen all the Alien movies and have them in my collection. I'll add this one, because, whether you think of it as a prequel or not, it's a Ridley Scott movie and he never disappoints.
