Kevin Smith did a great job going into a new genre. The actors and cinematography PUT me into the movie and I felt the emotions of the movie. I would not say that this is the best movie of all times, no, but I will say that knowing the directors usual style and seeing this film, I will say that this is a good movie and definitely a must watch. It is crazy to think that there are people like this in the world. Red State.

The film is a bunch of cheap shots at easy targets with no real payoff. Too talky to be scary, too unfocused to have any emotional impact.
I saw this at the Texas theatre, and paid $40 for two tickets. There was supposed to be a live simulcast Q&A with the director afterwards, but the feed broke multiple times and when it did work, it was impossible to tell what was being said. I left after ten minutes. I feel like I was ripped off. I won't fall for this nonsense again.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Kevin Smith most serious and hard hitting film to date. The film really captures a unique fear that seems to be on the rise in our country. Its a dark look into the way isolation can truly warp people, especially when extremely strong beliefs are pushed upon the entire group. John Goodman's struggle to keep true to his beliefs and yet please his bosses is a remarkable acting job in which we see Goodman at his darkest. A must see for 2011 and puts Kevin Smith back into the fold of quality directors. A statement film on religion, politics, the government's power and on Kevin Smith's career!
