It made you jump a few times. Overall a pretty good movie. I usually rate a movie "glad we came" or "should have waited" I was glad we came. The theater was full and that gave it a more intense setting. Must agree the beginning was a bit slow. Pay attention to the beginning, names and the date. I agree I think it will scare you more than 2 for sure. I was in a close race to 1 though.

This would've been a total and utter waste of $10 if not for some good previews. And if that's the saving grace of a movie that should pretty much sum it up.
The entire movie is buildup, with the last 15 minutes providing a tremendous amount of stress and buildup and just when it looks like it is going to get amazing and interesting....the credits run.

Don't trust people who say they weren't scared by this movie; it is physically impossible not to be scared in PA3. The horror is done in such a way that constantly keeps you guessing, and in a way that's gratifying to watch. I'd consider PA3 to be a better movie than PA2 and PA1, but that's just me. The plot is condensed, which makes room for more scares. The inclusion of some pretty funny moments gives you a brief moment of relief before trying to guess where the next scare is going to come from. I'd recommend this movie to anyone who liked PA1 or PA2.

Started a little slow, but not too bad. Was just as creepy as I expected with a couple of jumps here and there. About three-fourth's into the movie, it became a little too predictable. Overall good movie!

First of all, the previews shown online and on TV are not in the movie! Why a director would show scenes that may make the directors cut but not the actual movie is beyond me. Second, it really wasn't all that scary (and I am a wuss). Third, the movie is just plain sub-par, I went to this movie thinking the director would make up for the exceedingly week second movie and it just didn't happen. The whole idea of the prequel on top of a prequel thing was cool at first, but I find it hard to keep my interest with the story line because it is recycled. Seems like the directors are lacking new ideas and direction and just trying to make the quick buck over the first movies hype. Don't waste you time, the first movie was and still is the best. The directors need to step up their game. The movie theater however was awesome, and I highly recommend it!

Couldnt buy tix and drop off. Had to buy myself a tix and enter or they wouldnt allow 15 year olds in when the adult bought tix. Kids saw paranormal 1&2 and said this one was a million times scarier. To much drama to see a movie. Manager stood at door and made sure adult entered with kid.

The first Paranormal movie scared me so bad, that it took me a while to stay in the house alone, LOVED IT! The second movie Paranormal 2 was disappointing it did not scare me, at least not to the point of the first one. This one, Paranormal 3 i thought would be the grand finale i was really looking forward to being scared, the main reason i watch scary movies! Instead i found myself laughing all the way through as though it was a comedy. Also i saw 2 different previews for this movie & certain scenes i saw in 1 of the premiers was not in the movie.There were about 3 scenes that was kinda scary, but no more. IMHO personally speaking it was awful. Just my opinion, how i feel and to each it's own.

I bought the tickets in advance for the preview on Thursday.... Needed to be one of the 1st to see it! The only little negative thing was that I kept waiting for certain things to happen based on the previous movies and the trailers.( Just like PA2 what happened in the trailer didn't happen in the movie.) It was scarier and more suspenseful then the first two and since it left some unanswered questions I can not wait for the next sequel! Definitely recommend this movie for anyone who loves to be scared!

Paranormal Activity 3 continues to serve up much of the same scary formula of the first 2 movies. You'll have to buy into the formula and accept that it's normal, and acceptable, for a guy to set up cameras all around the house 24/7 to capture paranormal activity. And he does capture strange stuff: kids speaking to ghosts, spirits shutting doors, breaking things, and running around at night. This formula just works and they've even improved on it a bit. See it if you liked the first two, or if you didn't catch the first 2, or if you just want gold old-fashioned edge-of-your-seat horror.

First of all I would like to say I was definitely terrified watching this movie. There were some scares that really kept me on the edge of my seat. I was just a little disappointed that the ending fell so flat. It was like the filmmakers looked up and realized an hour had gone by and they just had to wrap things up. I was left with more questions than answers, and wasn't this movie supposed to answer all my questions. We were definitely set up for another sequel. I was also disappointed that many of the scenes from the trailers didn't even make it to the movie. But all in all...still worth seeing it opening night. And I really got the scare I was looking for.

A lot of my friend went to see this movie at midnight and told me "omg it was so good and so scary." Now normally for me scary movies are not scary but after watching Paranormal Activity 2 I was scared. I figured the 3rd movie would be even scarier but I was way wrong. I think the scariest part of the movie was when the lady jumped out the closet with the mask on. I did way more laughing than anything. I kept asking my sister "Is this a comedy?" I truly believe an audience can make or break even the BEST of movies" which was the case here. Unfortunately we had a gentleman who thought it would be hysterical to cut one whenever the theatre got very quiet due to an impending scene. This made for a horrible experience to what appeared to be a great back story or "beginning" to the trilogy. So much was lost due to these moronic acts that I feel the need to see it again - this time hopefully with a little more mature of an audience.

So many reviews I've read below are way too seriously & meticulously posted. You know what this movie "is" walking into the theater & taking your seat. That's exactly why your in the seat in the first place, & why millions of others are too...for some cheap scares & lots of fun! I got my fair share of both last night watching this.
I must give a big nod of credit, & a pat on the back to the creativity & imagination of all involved...They managed to find some brilliant ways to keep their M.O. of success & scaring from becoming predictable & expected.
They had some real good "surprises"..in where the audience is preparing for a "pop-out" by quickly trying to deciefer how/when/where it will come from, &... BANG!,,,The film takes a complete 180 & scares with an approach that no one could have ever figured out beforehand.
So while they kept the foundation they made famous of the "Night #1" recording approach, they scaled it down to the be withing the background & added in a new "video recording" dimension that took over center stage. This new dynamic not only kept this third installment fresh, but it was actually quite brilliant.
For those of you yet to see this film, I'll put it this way... the "oscillating" camera" is directionally genius! It produced the equivalent of visual torture with an intent that borders malice. The anticipation moments weren't suspenseful then were down right stressful. They should attach a a heart problem disclaimer because of that damn camera!... If you have seen the movie I know you're not reading this because you're hiding under your covers!
One last prop to give goes to both the director & the young actresses. Superior acting/directing job of convincing the audience, done by the younger girl (Christy) talking to an invisible "Toby"... & a true standing ovation for the acting performance in the scene where the older girl (Katie) finally "sees" "Toby".EXCELLENT!
If I had to critique something, I would say the weaving together of the story line was just OK. I actually need to go back & revisit the first two films to exactly recall some of the info relating to the sister's childhood & then pair it up with PA3...but I will say I'm sure when making the original PA the writers mindset was focused on that individual plot & not coming from the perspective that it would be a huge hit & they needed to write a story line that continues on for 2 more (so far) movies.
So hey, it's Halloween. Go out for some fun, some tricks n treats,& see this film. If you're looking for award winning writing & pure film making masterpiece this should not be in your choices of movies to go see,.
Simply put, if you're a fan of the first 2 you'll still remain a fan when you walk out of the theater for this one.
I'm looking forward to waking in the middle of the night, having to hold my pee in till morning, for a week or so after seeing Paranormal Activity 4, as I am doing now with this one & as I did after seeing the first two!

This movie is a Pre-Prequel having the story of the two sisters before the first two Paranormal Activity movies. The movie starts showing scenes that are not quite from the second movie but give you the sense that it was about that time. There were lots of moments of suspense. I will say that I did jump during parts of the movie. Some will get annoyed by a couple of scenes are just setups. It is not a gory movie and that is probably what some are not happy about. That being said I probably will not buy the movie because once you've seen it there really is not much that will be a surprise on a second or third viewing. The casting was good; the actress who plays the mom (Julie Bittner) surprisingly looks like the actress who plays the adult Katie (Katie Featherstone) --even with similar facial expressions. Folks who are complaining about scenes in the commercials that are not in the movie means that the movie company wants you to buy the DVD for the "extras".

Paranormal Activity 3 overall was not a bad movie, however, be prepared to be disappointed. First off, the movie is nothing like the trailer! If you view the trailer on the Paranormal Activity 3 website, you will learn after seeing the movie that nothing that happens in the trailer actually takes place in the movie. This was extremely disappointing because the trailer leads you to believe that many questions will be answered in this prequel. Second, the movie is only 81 minutes long. Hardly worth shelling out $10.00 or more! Finally, where is the storyline? This prequel leaves you with more questions than answers! Wait for it to come out on Blue Ray!

Overall I liked the movie. I believe that they should have explained the story a little better but overall it was enjoyable.

Don't waste your time or money seeing this movie! The scenes they show you in the previews on tv, don't make it in the movie. The movie was HORRIBLE! If you liked Parts I & II, don't see this one doesnt even come close. Outraged that they can show you previews on tv, that arent even in the movie!!! I guesss that's the only way they can get anyone to go see the movie. I will tell everyone and anyone NOT to see this movie or any other Paranormal Activity movies going forward. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

Do yourself a favor and skip this movie. It sucked so bad. Nothing from the previews even made it into the movie. This movie was so tame compared to the others. The writing was full of holes that didn't make sense to the other movies. I have been a HUGE fan of the other two movies. This one seems like bits and pieces were thrown together to make a movie. Just a complete waste of time. Not a single thing in this movie was scary. No where near the scare of the first two movies. I will not be buying this on video that is for sure. I doubt I will see 4 if it comes out.

As an overall comparison to the other two movies, this movie was a failure in contrast to its predecessors. None of the scenes shown from the trailer were included and as it turns out, those were the best scenes; as I beg to ask the question, were we watching clips from the already made 4th movie and just duped into watching this film? Don’t believe the hype of the 4 and 5 stars ratings, the movie was slow, boring and bland, and aside from the traditional scares from the other 2, this movie added nothing new dimensionally to the series. This series reminds me of watching the Blair Witch project and after a great first start we are delivered the next installment and left to go home disappointed. The more reviews I read on this site stating the movie was excellent, the more I believe someone involved with this movie is doing damage control. I must say for validity purposes that am a huge horror movie buff from the original Exorcist to Paranormal Activity 3 with Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, Saw, Hills have eyes, Wrong turn and many others in between but this movie was simply a failure. Don’t waste your time buying it, rent it once from On demand and move on.
