My boyfriend and I enjoyed this movie. It was definately better than the second one and we had fun guessing who was evil and trying to get the timeline down from the first, second and third. They have the format down pat now and you can tell when scary stuff is supposed to happen. I do wish they would stop showing scenes for promos that were cut from the movie though. Best to see it as a matinee for the discounted price, but overall pretty good.

Wasted money going to the theater to see this one. The worst of all three. I don't like the false advertisement when they show previews that aren't in the movie. The preview where it shows the two girls in the bathroom saying bloody mary doesn't happen in the movie. I fell asleep a couple times during the movie.

Paranormal activity 1 took us by surprise, and now I saw the 3rd movie. More of the same, too far fetched and not really scary anymore. Watered down. When are we going to see a movie with paranormal stuff that really exist? That will scare the living daylights out of us, like "jaws" did in 1977.

I was SO excited to see this movie with my boyfriend. We had seen the first two and absolutely enjoyed the quality and story line. They were very scary and both give you the thrill you're looking for. PA 2 is definitely my top scary movie favorite. Paranormal Activity 3 is another story. This move for lack of better words, was disappointing. Not only were the scenes (The ones I was very excited for) in the trailers completely removed from the movie but the plot was terrible. It in NO WAY tied back to the original two. It went off on a tangent that leaves you saying, "Ok...and the point is..." at the end. The only part that ties to the second movie is when they show footage from PA 2 when Kristi and her husband realize the tapes from Katie and Kristi's childhood are missing. That's it. They did not relate it back to relate to the demon in the first two movies.
I really was waiting for so much more. It seemed like the movie was building towards the climax except it didnt have a climax. The ending was very anticlimactic. An hour into the movie, I turned over to my boyfriend and said, "There's only 20 mins left babe, when is it going to get scary." Yeah...that bad. I was waiting for the 'jump out of your seat' effect the first two had, nope, never happened.
I really was looking for something more. A better script/story line, more thrilling moments. It gets old quick. Overall, Epic Fail - especially to the Paranormal Activity fans. What the movie SHOULD HAVE been about was when Katie and Kristi's great grandmother made a deal with the devil for wealth in exchange for a male heir. OR...the movie should have chronicled Katie and Hunter's whereabouts after the second film. Terrible choice to revert back to the children's childhood when really, there was no story there.

just as expected it was weird , just as weird as the first and second but it seemed to come together near the end. There were jumpy moments where you knew something was going to happen just as the other movies, that weird sound comes in and your waiting to be scared to death. I have found that each time one of these come out, they dig deeper into the beginnings of the reason behind the hauntings. The scary moments were not as much as I would have liked, but they are intense when they do happen. I was disappointed about the father dying at the end of the movie. Overall I think it was excellent but there is always an alternate ending <EG>

I'm a huge fan of the Paranormal Activity... I guess it's become a "series". The first was an indie film and, in my opinion, pretty excellent. Hollywood got to the second one, but at least it filled some gaps and answered some questions from the first. The third... nnh.
None of it goes back to the original stories, for one. If you remember the stories Katie told, or even some of the allusions her sister made, none of it seems to matter any more. It deviates from the original plot tenfold. Also, almost none of the scenes in the trailer are in the movie, which means a totally ignorant mother character and some... really un-creepy children. I guess there was good use of a panning camera, but really all the scares were boo-scares and pretty much none connect to the demon in the other films.

We took a couple teenagers, and another couple who never go to see these kinds of movies. It was made a fun experience due to the content and the other people in the theater who squeeled and laughed in all the right places! We left the movie talking about it, and laughing which means to me it was good. Ran in to people that walked out of "The Rum Diary" half way through it and said it was torture just to wait that long, and said they should have seen what we did. I really like these kinds of movies, so I would recommend it. The first two were OK, this one was better in my opinion. Enjoy!

I'm a wuss that HATES scary movies and the fact that this didn't bother me that much should say something. It was scary at times and the ending was hella nuts as was with the first one.
I enjoyed it - but like I said - I hate scary movies - so the fact that I didn't leave ready to vomit might say something about how "scary" it is.
It did give me nightmares last night though!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

In all fairness, we have not seen the first two, but after watching the trailers and reading reviews of the first two, they seemed to be the same.
We were glued to our seats waiting for something to happen and we are still waiting.
I don't want this to be a spoiler, but if you took all the good parts of the movie and put it into one reel, you would have enough material for a good Super Bowl ad.
If you have seen the first two.. save yourself some time. You've probably seen the third installment.

Whenever a low budget film like "Paranormal Activity" scores big, you can expect the Hollywood machine to squeeze everything they can out of the cow. Sadly, with "Paranormal Activity 3" they milked it for laughs, and lost all the scares.
There are some good performances in there, and some tense moments. Ultimately however it falls short of its target, which is, after all, a horror movie.
(spoiler alert!)
One problem was the red herring dragged across in the previews. The old chestnut of "Bloody Mary" gets dragged in to the mix fairly early; but aside from one possible "boo" moment, its a dead end (hahaha). There is an excellent creepy moment involving a sheet and some misdirection, but that only resulted in a laugh from the audience when it could have gotten some shrieks.
Finally, the directors (the guys from "Catfish"), the producers or the writers fell victim to the worst sin in horror films; its all because of a witch cult. This is so tired, so vastly overdone, I even heard some jeers when that plot line turned up.
I give this one two stars, but only because my date and I got some laughs.

Almost none of what you see in the trailer appears in the film. What does appear in the film has been changed or reduced since the trailer was cut.
The new director seems to have an excellent sense of humor that does not reduce the film to silliness, but definitely ups the fun factor for the film.
There were some great tense scenes, and the action was definitely increased for this outing. However, I feel like it would have been nice to see a little tiny bit more of what we were promised from the initial previews.
While the ending certainly felt rushed, I can't help but expect for there to be a sequel coming, so I'm not exactly worried about that. It was great spooky fun and I'd recommend it to my friends, but perhaps not at the expense of prime-time cinema going. This is at best a matinee film, at worst 2nd-run discount fodder.
They won't be playing this movie by itself at the midnight horror runs.
