Rarely is a film as overall wonderful as the production company touts or critical reviews promise. "Life of Pi" is a rare gift from Ang Lee that exceeds all expectations.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, all around beauty of a film
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great story and acting. The movie did not drag. Always something happening
I saw this movie on strong recommendations from critics and a family member. I was looking for a rainy day escapist movie that would kill 2 hours of my day.
It ended up being an ordeal of animal and human suffering that I found laborious, continually hoping to get to a "happy" part that would give me some emotional uplift. Never found it. I found Castaway to be a better stranded story with a more uplifting ending.
When I saw the previews I thought, great another castaway. But this movie is so much better. This story was something else. The scenery, the story, and the acting was great. Go so see this movie!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Exquisite cinematography, moving story, good life lessons
My 12 year-old granddaughter and I went to see Life of Pi together and it was one of the most photographically exquisite filmsI have ever seen. The story was also fascinating and beautifully told. I had no idea there had once been a part of India that was colonized by the French and the scenery was so lovely.
Though it is rated PG I wouldn't take any child younger than 13 to see it only because it is the story of a shipwreck and surviving at sea with animals in the mix so there are scenes that can be frightening to young children (as a scene where the Bengal tiger eats a goat.)
But Ang Lee, the director who won an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain" surprises in this adult fairy tale of the relationship between a very spiritual Indian young man and the tiger he finally subdues and grows to love as they battle the sea together.
Both my granddaughter and I liked it a lot, and it gave us good opportunity to discuss loyalty, courage, sympathy and persistence, just to name a few examples of the film's themes and life lessons.
Pros great story, breathtaking cinematography
Yes, I recommend this movie.

excellent parable. Would have preferred to have seen the tiger attack the goat instead of seeing only Pi reaction which was not emotional nor moving.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, thoughtful
After all of the hype, we were really looking forward to seeing this movie. What a disappointment. The first 30 minutes were so slow that we almost walked out. The accents were so heavy that it was difficult to follow the dialogue. The story was ok but very repetitive. The ending was a nice touch, but oh, the ordeal to get to it.
I was excited to see this movie and it did not disappoint. From the opening shot of the first frame, you will understand why you must see this in 3D. The first scene sets the tone for the 3D overall. Very well done. I have seen some complaints about this movie being too much like Castaway. No such thing. Simple minds think simply. Is it similar? Sure, Two different movies though. That would be like saying this is the same as Gilligan's Island because of being stranded. To me, the context of the movie needs to be looked at, instead of comparing it to a completely different movie. With that said, this is more of a search for a young man to find his way in life. He conforms to different types of religion. It is well portrayed because he is simply trying to find his way in life. He wants to be the best person he can be. This journey helps him acheive that. You will really feel the connection between the tiger and Pi. We can all relate because of pets we may have had in our lives. There are some scenes that may disturb some regarding animals, but to remember this is how life works is essential. This movie is really worth seeing. But HIGHLY recommended to see in 3D!
Pros well paced, great story, inspiring
Cons animal scenes may be much for children
Yes, I recommend this movie.

When I read the story, I could not put it down. A truly great tale of perseverance and faith. The film takes a story that is inspiring on the written page and audio book to a whole new level. The breathtaking visuals and special effects compliment and add to the texture of the story instead of overwhelming it. The assertion put forth in trailers for the film that it is the next "...next Avatar." do "Life of Pi" a great disservice.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, visually stunning
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If you liked the book, you will love the movie! Visually beautiful and and great interpretation of the story. I really enjoyed it and I did not see it in 3D. You will have to have a good stomach if you do that!
What a fantastic story. My 11 year old son said this was the best movie he has ever seen. Animation fantastic, cinematography is wonderful, acting is outstanding. Should win the academy award.
I think this movie was extraordinary and the acting was excellent. Ang Lee has done it again. I loved it from start to finish, found no parts to be boring and now I am going to buy the book and read it. I usually read the book first. I would recommend this to anyone. I don't think a 15 year old should NOT see it. Anyway, I give it award kudos and I'll be watching in March to see what happens. I thought it was fantastic.
A beautiful adaptation of a great story. The acting is great and uses lesser known actors which is always a nice change. The story is very good, though there are a few times that movie becomes slow and tiresome. The story is very spiritual and does focus on Christianity but do not let that turn you away. The tiger effects are amazing and it is hard to believe it is not real. I do not think this movie will appeal to everyone and I am uncertain that I would bring children under 15 to see it. If you are looking for a good story and amazing effects this is a great show. I would see it in 3D on a big screen.
Pros great story, great actors
Cons slow
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The movie is very true to the book, which provides the deep thought provoking themes and thrilling adventure. Ang Lee brings artistic genius, adding choreography and effects to faithfully put on screen the images of an intense survival encounter with the forces of nature, including human nature. Even though I read the book, I don't have an answer to the question - did the zebra have four legs or two? Perhaps if I watch it again, with answering that question as my purpose; but even if I still don't find the answer, I'll enjoy seeing (on screen) the story (I read) which I want to be true.
