This is not your old Snow White and not for small children. However, it is very edgy and dark. I happen to like edgy and dark. The special effects were outstanding. The acting was great and I especially enjoyed seeing Ian McShane as one of the seven dwarfs. A must see now!!

I was absolutely thrilled by the trailers of the movie and couldn't wait to see it in theaters, but after watching it... I expected a little more from the movie that what I got. The storyline was good and the characters were played very well, but it lacked a wholeness. There needed to be a little more definition about the magical aspects of the wooded areas and more of a relationship between Snow White and the Huntsman (if there was meant to be any sort of "relationship" between them), for me it was all too distant.
That's just my thoughts, but I did like the movie to watch it again! =]

So much better than the light hearted Mirror Mirror movie! The Effects, Art, and camera work were excellent. The acting was great, especially the wicked Queen , Charlize Theron! She was amazing! Kristen Stewart did better than her Twilight films, although I did see glimpses of "bella" in her kiss scene with Sam Clafin.
All in all, I would recommend seeing this on the big screen.
Great job!

I've been following only some of the recent wave of movies and television shows based on fairy tales, so I can't compare Snow White and the Huntsman to Red Riding Hood, Once Upon a Time, or Mirror, Mirror. I do like NBC's Grimm, but that's more of a modern supernatural police procedural.
Snow White and the Huntsman only loosely follows the story recounted by the Brothers Grimm and Walt Disney. There's still a princess, a wicked stepmother, a magic mirror, and seven dwarves, but this Snow White reminded me more of the wave of high-minded but inconsistent fantasy flicks from the 1980s, such as Dragonslayer or Labyrinth.
Twilight's Kristen Stewart acquits herself well as the eponymous princess, who is more like Joan of Arc than Disney's cheerful heroine. Charlize Theron (soon also to be seen in Prometheus) happily chews the scenery as Queen Ravenna and needs to be "uglied up" with computer-generated effects for her younger rival to be the fairest in the land.
Thor's Chris Hemsworth is appropriately gruff as the drunken widower hired by Ravenna to find Snow White. Sam Clafin (from Pillars of the Earth and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is a swashbuckling nobleman and potential live interest similar to Robin Hood, and Sam Spruell is Ravenna's cruel brother Finn.
Snow White and the Huntsman's dwarves have less of a role than you might expect, even with clever casting — including the heads of veteran British character actors Bob Hoskins, Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, and Brian Gleeson put onto little people's bodies. The effect was seamless, but it only serves to whet the appetite for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in December.
Speaking of Jackson's example, the production values of Snow White and the Huntsman are very good, with nicely unified sets, costumes, and armor. James Newton Howard's orchestral soundtrack is a bit heavy-handed during the set-piece battles. I think the direction could have been better, since the movie starts slowly and the ending feels rushed. There are also few memorable lines in the script, which felt like a middling Dungeons & Dragons game (and I've participated in many of these).
In addition to the dwarves and Ravenna's sorcery, the brief scene where Snow White and her companions enter a faerie glade is a hint of how this movie could have used visual effects for a more fantastic setting (see The Dark Crystal or Legend for examples). Instead, the movie focuses on more mundane matters like raising an army and the princess realizing her birthright, closer in style to Ladyhawke but without the simple but strong plot magical device of that movie.
Overall, I'd give Snow White and the Huntsman, which has finally dethroned The Avengers at the box office, a 7 out of 10, a B, or two and a half out of five stars. It's rated PG-13 for violence.

I loved the dwarfs comment to "mushrooms". HILARIOUS. It was LAME how the Queen was just so FEMINIST. lol That just cracked me up. They should have done more of a back story if she was going to be such a man hater. Like lost love, or something. I felt NO empathy for her whatsoever. I thought her character lacked alot of things. ALL she ever did was look at her self and have her eyes almost bulge out of her head and lay there with her hair all crappy. Charlize Theron is gorgeous though. Some of her dresses were amazing! Okay, so moving on to the "romance" between the Huntsman and Snow White...it was retarded. They had to give KS some lines to say something to him. All she did was look at him. Honestly, that really was the director/ and writers fault. I thought overall KS did okay in this movie. Also, WTF was the cow with trees coming out of its head? lol I know it was supposed to be some kind of faerie spirit thing....but why didn't they help in the battle if they helped set her free and "approved" of her so much? It just didn't make a ton of good sense. I guess I like the story and movie, but more of what it COULD have been. Going to see this movie was fun because it was so creative and made you think and see outside the box.

Just saw the movie last night. It was good - action-packed & well-developed. It did get a little hoakie in some parts but all-in-all, good. I know it's tempting to take your kiddos to a Snow White movie, but please don't. It's a very violent movie from beginning to end.

The visuals are quite evocative, and interesting. But this is not your mother's snow white, but one about an empowered and prominent princess, who, like King Arthur, is tied closely to the health of the land. Stewart carries the mantle of the strong, snow white well, And the evil queen, played well by Theron, is evil, reminiscent of Morgana. Recommended for sword and sorcery fans.

Evil stepmother, poison apple, dwarfs, its all there except in a Gotham sort of way. The hero is a drunk, about time for that. Ok for kids, not nearly as violent as a video game. Good one to see.

"Mirror Mirror" this is not!! A very "Violent Fairy Tale" that is not for children.
"Snow White and the Huntsman" is a twisted take on the beloved classic fairy tale, "Snow White". Charlize Theron as the "Wicked Queen" was very wicked indeed!
This Installment of "Snow White" finds the wicked queen ordering a "Huntsman" (Chris Hemsworth) to go into the dark forbidden forest to hunt down Snow White (Kristen Stewart) who has fled the kingdom. The wicked queen wants Snow White brought back so she can take her heart to stay forever young. The story unfolds from there...
Very interesting special effects. The cinematography is really good. The action is intense and violent. The story is very dark. Unfortunately I only found this installment mildly entertaining. There was some history lacking in the story, sometimes the dialog was meaningless.
Although this installment is much richer and better then "Mirror Mirror" which opened in March 2012. There is nothing funny about this version of the classic tale of "Snow White".

Overall I enjoyed the movie, lots of action around a "real" plot. The characters were tangible and the storyline was magnetic. I did feel, however, that it was a little too wordy around the time that they introduced the dwarves. There was a solid 20 minutes that I felt could have been cut from the movie and not even remotely be missed.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

Well done movie that we really enjoyed. The acting was better than I thought it would be but I would have liked to hear Kristen Stewart's accent come off a bit stronger although it was shocking and wonderfully surprising that I did not feel like I was watching Bella Swan at all. I was entertained and felt myself sucked into the film as some of the effects were wonderful and a job to watch.

The re-imaging of Snow White will not be an adored adaption of the German folktale, but the elements within this film display the dark side behind some of the happiest and most satisfying children's story.
The concept of "messing-up" an already beloved story is hard to take on as a director, yet Rupert Sanders takes this challenge with ease.
Art Direction is the core of all the spectacle....the raw design behind "Snow White" makes it one of the most visually-stunning pictures of the year!

The movie was great! It was edgy, and even though we all know how the classic "Snow White" ends, this movie still manages to capture the attention of the viewer and manages to maintain their interest until the very end. I especially enjoyed the scenes of the Queen, the imagery they associate with her and how they depict her character is truly captivating.

The movie kept me glued to my seat the entire time. I thought that Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron were excellent in this. I would go back again to see it in the theater because I don't think I want to wait for it to come out on DVR.

This movie was a nice escape for an afternoon. The Visuals were excellent! It is a well made movie and shot well, so as I said, it was fun to watch. The acting was par. Kristen Stewart verbalizes her lines very well, I just don't see the emotion in her facial expressions. Charlize Theron was excellent as the villain. I don't often see a female villain that actually impresses me. But there were times after she delivered her lines that I felt my innervoice saying "Yikes!". The Huntsman was boring. I really liked the Dwarves, but their accents made it hard to understand what they were saying. It got slow in places, but picked up at the end. Overall it's worth watching. If you have limited movie budget, just wait for the DVD. There are better movies currently at the Theaters.
