I thought I'd be the only adult in the audience. Not so, though I may have been the only one in the place without kids! No matter. I wanted to see something light and fun and the penguins cinched it. A sweet and sentimental film for a Sunday afternoon that kept even the littlest kids enthralled. I bet none of us could tell the real penguins from the CGI ones, and didn't care. And Jim Carrey, still funny, managed to tamp down the over-the-top stuff and be more "human." I left the theater feeling good, and that's no small thing nowadays.

.... which will be fine for many families with kids under 12. Our kiddies are grown adults now and the grand kiddos do not live nearby so we decided to give it a go without the little ones in tow. I had a hard time keeping my eyes opened in this movie as the laughs are spread thin and when they "pop" up they wear thin. In essence this is a modern take on Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs. The movie title could have been "Mr Popper and the Six Penguins". When Popper was deciding names for the tuxedo-clad birds I half-expected to hear ... Dopey, Sneezy, Doc .... you get the picture. Bottom line - If you want a diversion watching your under-12's giggle at penguin's pooping, passing gas, playfully vandalizing and pecking people - then this movie might be your cup of iced tea. If you are an older couple without kiddies then it would be best to stay at home in your igloo and rub noses. An ice-sculptured rhino horn down.

I have not seen a family movie like this since I was a kid and know I am in my 30's. Shows good family values. You can still be sucessful, fullfilling your dreams without comprimising your family and marriage. Everyone deserves a second chance. The family has always been the foundation of a strong prosperous civilization. When we put material things and selfishess desires before the family, society suffers dramatically. We had a group of 14 people that attended the viewing of Mr. Popper's Penguins. Ages ranged from (8 children) 6-12 yrs old and the 4 of adults ranged from 17-31 yrs old, 1 adult 76 yrs old and last adult is turning 48 yrs old in 1 week! I say all that just to say it truly is a movie for any and all ages. Evereyone gave it a 10 even our most conservative at 76 thought it was great and she is not a fan of Jim Carrey. Such a great message of Love and caring for others. Awesome job can't wait to own it on my Verizon VOD/DVR

Formula movie: dad-beat Dad, trying to prove something, stuffed shirt corporate types wanting more from him, disappointed children and estranged wife brought back into the meld once he wakes up and "smells the penguins". Everyone liked this film, kids, teens and adults. Lots of laughter in the theater and not just from our section. It was worth every penny of the admission. (I didn't feel short changed.) Jim Carey, is a great talent, but in my mind, is associated with raunchy humor, so I would not take my granddaughter to this movie at first when she kept asking, but we went to see another movie and this one was next door, so I relented with the warnings that I would leave at the first inappropriate scene. I'm so glad we went. THANKS 20th Century. This was funny and sweet, had a good moral and even somewhat educational about the penquins. Bravo!

A predictable premise and result, but entertaining and funny in execution. Jim Carrey is more Bruce than Ace, and that works for this movie.
