I liked it. It was well put together and I was actually surprised this movie could interest me, but it did. And I would recommend this to anyone and it is a great family flick-only PG. It was funny and even had some romance. By the end you were hoping for the whales to break free and it was a good ending too. It's also a pretty cool true story. Overall it had some good acting and it was a good movie.

... the 1980's about a small group of animal activists that gathered resources together to save 3 whales trapped in northern sea ice forming off of Alaska's coast. This is an ideal family film that will likely please anyone with a heart for seeing the little guy succeed over corporate machinery, government bureaucracy and horrible weather! My only beef is the obvious tomfoolery when it comes to trying to paint Ronald Reagen and political conservatives and successful corporate business leaders as 2 dimensional bad guys without a heart. Nice work including actual news footage from the actual event! Kudos for adding that extra detail at the end - that oft times movies based on true news worthy events neglect to include - actual photos of the real people and the actual whales. An icy cold rhino horn up.

Inspired by a true yet simple story of three trapped whales in Alaska and the unlikely people who come together to work for their rescue, this is well constructed and charming story that you will truly enjoy. As the rescue evolves into a team effort, former enemies join together in ways that blur their distinction as stereotypes as they demonstrate their humanity. Its all told through interlacing actual news footage with network anchors like Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Peter Jennings, and yes, its Alaska, so even a clip of then sports broadcaster Sarah Palin. Environmentalist, oil men, the military, President Regan, and even the Russian Navy all join together. And through it all, the personal stories of the little people make this film totally charming. My favorite scene was the two entrepreneurs from Minneapolis who fly up with their home made de-icer to keep an opening in the ice so the whales wouldn't suffocate. Its all told by a young Inuit lad who wants to escape the traditional world of his elders and finds meaning in it as he becomes caught up in the drama. Its a wonderful film that is well worth seeing!

My two granddaughters, ages 9 and 11, and I loved this movie. They were very interested and touched by how so many came together to help. They asked me if I remembered when that happened. The cast was right on!

This movie I thought was very well done with a good heart and this movie also I thought set a wonderful example of a town up in Alaska who all cared about those whales and they were caring enough to do the best that they could to save them. And with the reporters reporting on the story and everyone else all working together the whales were saved. So all in all I thought it was a great movie very well done. Thank you so much for putting out a great movie that had a good heart with people from a town who all worked together to save the whales.

This was a great story with a good script and terrific acting. While it was long, it sure didn't feel it. Saw with my 3 kids ages 3, 8, and 9 and they were engaged during the whole movie. A great movie for the family with no sex, violence, etc. That it was based on a true story made it all the more heart-wrenching.
