This movie was amazing. I took my 5 yr old niece, who is not known for sitting through an entire movie. But, she sat through the whole movie, and absolutely loved it. Dolphin Tale almost has 'it'. That thing required to send a movie into the annal of classics. Almost. The story is good, the acting is good, the cinematography is good, the directing is good. What happened?
Well, it was good, not great. With heavyweights like Morgan Freeman and Kris Kristofferson to carry the load this film should have gone down as the 'must see' movie of the year. But we only see glimpses of that 'morganesque' quality that Mr. Freeman brings to the big screen. Any hopes of 'Deep Impact' or 'Shawshank Redemption' quality acting from Morgan Freeman is soundly trounced during his first on screen appearance. I think he was led there and not betrayed by some inner desire toward mediocrity. Kristofferson was true to his roots with insightful one liners, but you can see he is getting tired.
The little girl was a treat, full of that high energy star dynamic that comes from being 10 years old and on her way. The boy had a lot of the subplot loaded on his shoulders and is just too young and inexperienced to carry the weight.
Dolphin Tale could have went all the way, but ran out of breath at the 10 yard line.

Living in Clearwater, my wife and I have visited Winter since she was a baby. Wife was also a volunteer at CMA. While this was a fictional tale, it held true to the main story of Winter and the people who helped her.
Loved the movie. Brought tears to my eyes. A wonderful, and uplifting family movie.

Went with adults and kids different ages. Everyone loved it; adults were crying at end! Don't need to see it in 3D; its fine without it. Most importantly, go on their web site when you get home (seewinter.com) to see the actual dolphin and make a donation for their important work!

Me and my 10 and 5 year old daughters loved this. The cast was a great combination of actors. Seeing the footage of the actual rescue and rehab at the end was a terrific and unexpected bonus.
